Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everything in moderation . . . The Get Fuzzy gang is back, and they’re leaner and meaner than ever. Bucky Katt (mastermind of mayhem) is on a steady diet of raw bacon, Beluga nut crunch, and carpa-cola in order to fit into his El Megaroid superhero suit—oatmeal cans are very slimming these days. The hapless and hopeless Satchel Pooch is in the kitchen perfecting his recipe for rubber chicken l’orange in a crayon/marker reduction sauce. And poor Rob, the vegetarian and ”owner” of the bunch, is scrounging for scraps in the midst of this gastronomical fury. Delicious and satisfying, this treasury of cartoons features a healthy serving of favorites from Clean Up on Aisle Stupid! and You Can’t Fight Crazy. Don’t feel guilty for polishing it off in one sitting. Honestly… . . . moderation is overrated.

Download or read book Say Cheesy written by Darby Conley and published by Andrews McMeel Publishing. This book was released on 2012-05-29 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The antics of moody Siamese kitten Bucky Katt and sweetly clueless Labrador-Shar-pei mix Satchel Pooch are scarily familiar to anyone with four-legged 'roommates'." -USA Weekend Dogs and cats can be cute, cuddly, and faithful companions. They also can be ornery, unpredictable, and hilarious. Get Fuzzy is all about the latter. In this collection, New York Times best-selling author Darby Conley has found uncommon humor and insight in our common, everyday pets. Get Fuzzy has become one of the premier comics on the funny pages. The Wilco household includes Rob the bachelor, Bucky, the cantankerous cat with an attitude, and Satchel, the loveable-but-clueless dog. If animals really could talk, one would expect them to sound like Bucky and Fuzzy. Often, it's the subtle nuances of the strip-from Bucky's hilarious facial expressions to Satchel's dopey innocence-that pack the biggest laughs. The strip's dry wit and razor-sharp reality earned it the National Cartoonists Society's prestigious Best Newspaper Comic Strip in 2002. Get Fuzzy captures the non-glamorous essence of being a pet owner in a way people who own and operate dogs and cats are sure to love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You have to wonder what kind of pets cartoonist Darby Conley had as a child. If they were anything like Bucky Katt and Satchel Pooch. . . well, life in the Conley house must have been interesting to say the least. The wacky triumvirate of Bucky, Satchel, and Rob are back in this Get Fuzzy collection, Rob Wilco is the mild-mannered ad executive caretaker of Bucky and Satchel. Satchel is a sweet and naive shar-pei-yellow-Lab cross, while Bucky is a Siamese with "cat-titude" to spare. Bucky and Satchel get along like, well, like cats and dogs. Like a beleaguered parent, Rob constantly must thwart Bucky's schemes and protect the unsuspecting Satchel. His pets' mischief continually disrupts his attempts to meet women. You try explaining to your date why your cat thinks he's a gangsta rapper and your dog is filming his "crib" for MTV. Would anyone live with humans who behaved like this? Download or read book The Patron Saint of Ugly written by Marie Manilla and published by HMH. This book was released on 2014-06-17 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catholic lore, American tales, and Sicilian superstition blend in this “clever, funny, heartbreaking, and heartwarming” novel (Publishers Weekly). Born with unruly red hair, a sharp tongue, and wine-colored marks all over her body—marks that oddly mimick a map of the world and make her subject to endless ridicule—Garnet Ferrari would hardly consider herself blessed. So when an emissary from the Vatican shows up at her door, convinced that her seeming ability to cure the skin ailments of others qualifies her for sainthood, she’s not quite convinced—or pleased. Garnet sets off on a quest to better understand who she is and where she and her unusual gifts came from. Tracing a twisted path that leads from Sicily to West Virginia, poverty to riches, romance to loss, reality to mythology, Garnet uncovers a truth far more powerful than any dermatological miracle: that the things of which we are most ashamed often become our greatest strengths. “A cleareyed, touching fable of a girl learning the hard truths about herself and others.” —Kirkus Reviews

Book Synopsis Luxury Arts of the Renaissance by : Marina Belozerskaya
Download or read book Luxury Arts of the Renaissance written by Marina Belozerskaya and published by Getty Publications. This book was released on 2005-10-01 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today we associate the Renaissance with painting, sculpture, and architecture—the “major” arts. Yet contemporaries often held the “minor” arts—gem-studded goldwork, richly embellished armor, splendid tapestries and embroideries, music, and ephemeral multi-media spectacles—in much higher esteem. Isabella d’Este, Marchesa of Mantua, was typical of the Italian nobility: she bequeathed to her children precious stone vases mounted in gold, engraved gems, ivories, and antique bronzes and marbles; her favorite ladies-in-waiting, by contrast, received mere paintings. Renaissance patrons and observers extolled finely wrought luxury artifacts for their exquisite craftsmanship and the symbolic capital of their components; paintings and sculptures in modest materials, although discussed by some literati, were of lesser consequence. This book endeavors to return to the mainstream material long marginalized as a result of historical and ideological biases of the intervening centuries. The author analyzes how luxury arts went from being lofty markers of ascendancy and discernment in the Renaissance to being dismissed as “decorative” or “minor” arts—extravagant trinkets of the rich unworthy of the status of Art. Then, by re-examining the objects themselves and their uses in their day, she shows how sumptuous creations constructed the world and taste of Renaissance women and men.
