This book was released on 1984-12 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ninth International Symposium on Transportation and Traffic Theory, held in the Netherlands in July 1984, follows the tradition of broad international information exchange that was developed at the eight previous symposia. Over the years the scope of the symposia has gradually widened to become both more international and more comprehensive than that of the earlier meetings. The Ninth Symposium continues this trend by including papers on a wide range of theoretical issues by leading members of the international research community.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume in our series, Human Behavior and Environment, is devoted to a specific topic, continuing the pattern established in the last two volumes. The current theme is behavioral science aspects of trans portation. This topic was chosen to exemplify a problem area of practical import to which psychologists, sociologists, and other behavioral and social scientists can make and have been making notable contributions. Our volume includes papers from a variety of psychological perspec tives, including human factors, environmental psychology, and be havior modification, along with other contributions from a sociologist and a transportation engineer interested in behavioral science contribu tions to transportation. Joining us as guest editor for this volume is Peter Everett, an environmental psychologist whose area of specialty is the study of behavioral components of transportation systems. Volume 6 of our series, currently in preparation, will be devoted to behavior and the natural environment. A provisional table of contents for that volume appears on page v. Irwin Altman Joachim F. Book Synopsis Behavioural Research for Transport Policy by : Brill Academic
Download or read book Behavioural Research for Transport Policy written by Brill Academic and published by VSP. This book was released on 1986-12 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The efficiency of transport systems depends on their relevance to those using them. All too often, however, transport policies are implemented at great expense without due regard to the behaviour, and consequent needs, of transport users. Behavioural Research for Transport Policy will improve the lines of communication between behavioural researchers and policy makers. The papers presented at the 1985 International Conference on Travel Behaviour cover the wide range of factors which need to be taken into account when gauging the effect behaviour has on transport requirements and usage. Contributions discuss the variety and usefulness of different survey frameworks; the lifestyle factors affecting transport use, and the problems of cost effectiveness in both survey techniques and the implementation of transport policy.

Book Synopsis Lifestyle Change and Transport in China by : Pengjun Zhao
Download or read book Lifestyle Change and Transport in China written by Pengjun Zhao and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-26 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to provide a complete overview of the current status of lifestyle and transport changes in China, focusing on the ongoing trends in lifestyle and transport technologies, which are shaping a new lifestyle and transport system. An additional focus is to discuss the mechanism behind the influence of transport on lifestyles, and analyze the influence of transport facilities on lifestyles, which will help to give efficient and effective transport solutions. Using macro statistics and survey data from Beijing and Chinese villages and towns, this book explores the interactive development of lifestyle and transportation in China over the past 40 years. The analyses and findings in this book would enhance our existing knowledge of the relationship lifestyle and transport. The policies discussed in the book would provide fresh evidences for policy-making on updating transport services in order to cope with the changes of people’s lifestyle. This book will be of great interest to scholars and governmental agencies interested in transport development, transport policy, social transition, sustainable transport, urban planning, urban governance, and is relevant to China and other developing countries.

Book Synopsis Systems Science for Complex Policy Making by : Kuntoro Mangkusubroto
Download or read book Systems Science for Complex Policy Making written by Kuntoro Mangkusubroto and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-27 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume applies a systems science perspective to complex policy making dynamics, using the case of Indonesia to illustrate the concepts. Indonesia is an archipelago with a high heterogeneity. Her people consist of 1,340 tribes who are scattered over 17,508 islands. Every region has different natural strengths and conditions. In the national development process all regions depend on one another other while optimizing their own conditions. In addition to this diversity, Indonesia also employs a democratic system of government with high regional autonomy. A democratic government puts a high value on individual freedom, but on the other hand, conflicts of interest also occur frequently. High regional autonomy also often causes problems in coordination among agencies and regional governments. This uniqueness creates a kind of complexity that is rarely found in other countries. These daily complexities requires intensive interaction, negotiation processes, and coordination. Such necessities should be considered in public policy making and in managing the implementation of national development programs. In this context, common theories and best practices generated on the basis of more simplified assumptions often fail. Systems science offer a way of thinking that can take into account and potentially overcome these complexities. However, efforts to apply systems science massively and continuously in real policy making by involving many stakeholders are still rarely carried out. The first part of the book discusses the gap between the existing public policy-making approach and needs in the real world. After that, the characteristics of the appropriate policy-making process in a complex environment and how this process can be carried are described. In later sections, important systems science concepts that can be applied in managing these complexities are discussed. Finally, the efforts to apply these concepts in real cases in Indonesia are described.
