Book Synopsis Sustainable Agriculture and Soil Conservation by : Concetta Eliana Gattullo
Download or read book Sustainable Agriculture and Soil Conservation written by Concetta Eliana Gattullo and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil degradation is one of the most topical environmental threats. A number of processes causing soil degradation, specifically erosion, compaction, salinization, pollution, and loss of both organic matter and soil biodiversity, are also strictly connected to agricultural activity and its intensification. The development and adoption of sustainable agronomic practices able to preserve and enhance the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soils and improve agroecosystem functions is a challenge for both scientists and farmers. The Special Issue entitled “Sustainable Agriculture and Soil Conservation” collects 12 original contributions addressing the state of the art of sustainable agriculture and soil conservation. The papers cover a wide range of topics, including organic agriculture, soil amendment and soil organic carbon (SOC) management, the impact of SOC on soil water repellency, the effects of soil tillage on the quantity of SOC associated with several fractions of soil particles and depth, and SOC prediction, using visible and near-infrared spectra and multivariate modeling. Moreover, the effects of some soil contaminants (e.g., crude oil, tungsten, copper, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) are discussed or reviewed in light of the recent literature. The collection of the manuscripts presented in this Special Issue provides a relevant knowledge contribution for improving our understanding on sustainable agriculture and soil conservation, thus stimulating new views on this main topic.

Book Synopsis Regenerative Medicine Applications in Organ Transplantation by : Giuseppe Orlando
Download or read book Regenerative Medicine Applications in Organ Transplantation written by Giuseppe Orlando and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 1050 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regenerative Medicine Applications in Organ Transplantation illustrates exactly how these two fields are coming together and can benefit one another. It discusses technologies being developed, methods being implemented, and which of these are the most promising. The text encompasses tissue engineering, biomaterial sciences, stem cell biology, and developmental biology, all from a transplant perspective. Organ systems considered include liver, renal, intestinal, pancreatic, and more. Leaders from both fields have contributed chapters, clearly illustrating that regenerative medicine and solid organ transplantation speak the same language and that both aim for similar medical outcomes. The overall theme of the book is to provide insight into the synergy between organ transplantation and regenerative medicine. Recent groundbreaking achievements in regenerative medicine have received unprecedented coverage by the media, fueling interest and enthusiasm in transplant clinicians and researchers. Regenerative medicine is changing the premise of solid organ transplantation, requiring transplantation investigators to become familiar with regenerative medicine investigations that can be extremely relevant to their work. Similarly, regenerative medicine investigators need to be aware of the needs of the transplant field to bring these two fields together for greater results. - Bridges the gap between regenerative medicine and solid organ transplantation and highlights reasons for collaboration - Explains the importance and future potential of regenerative medicine to the transplant community - Illustrates to regenerative medicine investigators the needs of the transplant discipline to drive and guide investigations in the most promising directions
Book Synopsis Lipid Analysis by : Richard John Hamilton
Download or read book Lipid Analysis written by Richard John Hamilton and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a result of the development of new methodologies, there has recently been a surge of interest in lipids, and hence lipid analysis, among biochemists and medical scientists. This book covers methods of lipid extraction in solvent and solid phase systems, as well as methods of derivative formation needed for a number of analytical procedures such as gas liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. It describes in practical detail the techniques for complete analysis of both isolated lipids and lipid mixtures. These include GLC, HPLC, TLC, and NMR. Lipid Analysis: A Practical Approach will be invaluable not only to researchers in lipid biochemistry but also to newcomers in the field from biological, chemical, and ecological backgrounds.
