Book excerpt: The Specialists' Meeting was arranged in the following sessions: Flutter or Oscillating Cascades (5); Wakes or Complete Stage (10); Transonic and Supersonic Unsteady Phenomena (4); and Experimental Studies and Instrumentation Problems (5). The Technical Evaluation Report is included at the beginning of the Proceedings. Questions and answers of the discussions follow each paper. While around isolated airfoils many results on unsteady aerodynamic phenomena are available, reliable experimental data for unsteady turbomachinery flows were still missing. Therefore, the Specialists' Meeting offered a forum for experts to discuss the degree of advancements in this field. It was found that CFD with large numerical codes will be more and more developed and offer a useful tool for designers to improve their products. The experimental work for code validation is lagging somewhat behind. Book Synopsis Fundamental Problems of Cascades for Transonic and Supersonic Stages of Turbomachines by : O. Novak
Download or read book Fundamental Problems of Cascades for Transonic and Supersonic Stages of Turbomachines written by O. Novak and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problems involved in the design of transonic and supersonic cascades are discussed and illustrated with some typical examples. The analysis leads to some general conclusions concerning the basic aerodynamic phenomena which determine the flow quality in these cascades: interaction of compression shocks and Mach waves, separation of the boundary layer and its consequences, and interaction of compression shocks and boundary layer. It is also pointed out that dissipation phenomena in the flow such as the effect of viscosity, vorticity, and thermal conductivity must also be taken into account. In conclusion, problems for future work in the field of flow in cascades are formulated. (Author).

Book Synopsis Unsteady Aerodynamics, Aeroacoustics, and Aeroelasticity of Turbomachines and Propellers by : H.M. Atassi
Download or read book Unsteady Aerodynamics, Aeroacoustics, and Aeroelasticity of Turbomachines and Propellers written by H.M. Atassi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 876 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first International Symposium on Unsteady Aerodynamics and Aero elasticity of Turbomachines was held in Paris in 1976, and was followed by symposia at Lausanne in 1980, Cambridge in 1984, Aachen in 1987, Bei jing in 1989, and Notre Dame in 1991. The proceedings published following these symposia have become recognized both as basic reference texts in the subject area and as useful guides to progress in the field. It is hoped that this volume, which represents the proceedings of the Sixth International Symposium on Unsteady Aerodynamics of Turbomachines, will continue that tradition. Interest in the unsteady aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, and aeroelasticity of turbomachines has been growing rapidly since the Paris symposium. This expanded interest is reflected by a significant increase in the numbers of contributed papers and symposium participants. The timeliness of the topics has always been an essential objective of these symposia. Another important objective is to promote an international exchange between scien tists and engineers from universities, government agencies, and industry on the fascinating phenomena of unsteady turbomachine flows and how they affect the aeroelastic stability of the blading system and cause the radiation of unwanted noise. This exchange acts as a catalyst for the development of new analytical and numerical models along with carefully designed ex periments to help understand the behavior of such systems and to develop predictive tools for engineering applications.
Book Synopsis Aerothermodynamics of Turbomachinery by : Naixing Chen
Download or read book Aerothermodynamics of Turbomachinery written by Naixing Chen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-23 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is now an essential and effective tool used in the design of all types of turbomachine, and this topic constitutes the main theme of this book. With over 50 years of experience in the field of aerodynamics, Professor Naixing Chen has developed a wide range of numerical methods covering almost the entire spectrum of turbomachinery applications. Moreover, he has also made significant contributions to practical experiments and real-life designs. The book focuses on rigorous mathematical derivation of the equations governing flow and detailed descriptions of the numerical methods used to solve the equations. Numerous applications of the methods to different types of turbomachine are given and, in many cases, the numerical results are compared to experimental measurements. These comparisons illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of the methods – a useful guide for readers. Lessons for the design of improved blading are also indicated after many applications. Presents real-world perspective to the past, present and future concern in turbomachinery Covers direct and inverse solutions with theoretical and practical aspects Demonstrates huge application background in China Supplementary instructional materials are available on the companion website Aerothermodynamics of Turbomachinery: Analysis and Design is ideal for senior undergraduates and graduates studying in the fields of mechanics, energy and power, and aerospace engineering; design engineers in the business of manufacturing compressors, steam and gas turbines; and research engineers and scientists working in the areas of fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and heat transfer.
