This book was released on 1961 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relations between these optical characteristics of the atmosphere and meteorological characteristics such as visibility, relative humidity, and contaminant contents were examined. Investigations of transmission variability with respect to both time and space were made. Curves were prepared from these and other experimental data showing transmittances of four typical atmospheres as a function of range for the case of flat receivers and radiation from a 4*P black body source at 6000 degrees K.

This book was released on 1963 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effectiveness and practicality of active countermeasures to the thermal effects of nuclear detonations were investigated. The use of smoke screens to attenuate the incident thermal radia tion below damaging levels appeared to be the most practical countermeasures for large area application. The investigation included review of available information on active countermeas ures; study of radiation attenuation by individual particles and clouds of particles; study of the theory of smoke-producing reactions; development of preliminary smoke-screen system design proce dures; and preliminary cost-effectivess analyses of several candidate smoke-screen systems. This book was released on 1995-08-24 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridging the fields of conservation, art history, and museum curating, this volume contains the principal papers from an international symposium titled "Historical Painting Techniques, Materials, and Studio Practice" at the University of Leiden in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from June 26 to 29, 1995. The symposium—designed for art historians, conservators, conservation scientists, and museum curators worldwide—was organized by the Department of Art History at the University of Leiden and the Art History Department of the Central Research Laboratory for Objects of Art and Science in Amsterdam. Twenty-five contributors representing museums and conservation institutions throughout the world provide recent research on historical painting techniques, including wall painting and polychrome sculpture. Topics cover the latest art historical research and scientific analyses of original techniques and materials, as well as historical sources, such as medieval treatises and descriptions of painting techniques in historical literature. Chapters include the painting methods of Rembrandt and Vermeer, Dutch 17th-century landscape painting, wall paintings in English churches, Chinese paintings on paper and canvas, and Tibetan thangkas. Color plates and black-and-white photographs illustrate works from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.
