Download or read book Transient Heat Flow Along Uni-directional Fibers in Composites written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For uni-directional fibrous composites and laminated composites, a heat-balance integral method has been developed for the analysis of transient heat flow along the fibers or in the plane of laminates. The method is based on the construction of, for the two constituent media, temperature profiles which not only satisfy the necessary boundary conditions but also fulfill the asymptotic error function properties when inter-region conduction is vanishingly small or at very early times of the heat transient.

Download or read book Transient Heat Flow Across Unidirectional Fibers in Composites written by Lit S. Han and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transient heat flow in fibrous composites is important in determining the depth of heat penetration and temperature gradients near surface layers. A pervious report dealt with heat flow parallel to the fiber axis. This research is concerned with heat flow perpendicular to the uni-directional fibers. Temperature responses under the condition of a constant surface heat load are calculated by a finite-difference approach. The rise of the composite surface temperature is governed by two bounding-limits (the effective bound and the matrix bound) depending on the time scale. A threshold time criterion is established in this research which is based on a heat penetration concept.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat transfer is involved in numerous industrial technologies. This interdisciplinary book comprises 16 chapters dealing with combined action of heat transfer and concomitant processes. Five chapters of its first section discuss heat effects due to laser, ion and plasma-solid interaction. In eight chapters of the second section engineering applications of heat conduction equations to the curing reaction kinetics in manufacturing process, their combination with mass transport or ohmic and dielectric losses, heat conduction in metallic porous media and power cables are considered. Analysis of the safety of mine hoist under influence of heat produced by mechanical friction, heat transfer in boilers and internal combustion engine chambers, management for ultrahigh strength steel manufacturing are described in this section as well. Three chapters of the last third section are devoted to air cooling of electronic devices.

Download or read book Metal Matrix Composites written by Minoru Taya and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-01-11 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal Matrix Composites: Thermomechanical Behavior discusses metal matrix composites, elaborating on that consists of two phases—fiber as reinforcement and metal as matrix. This book focuses on polymer matrix composites, including topics in metal matrix composites ranging from processing to fracture mechanics. The three basic types of composite materials—dispersion-strengthened, particle-reinforced, and fiber (whisker)-reinforced, are also described in detail. Dispersion-strengthened is characterized by a microstructure consisting of an elemental matrix within which fine particles are uniformly dispersed, while particle-reinforced is indicated by dispersed particles of greater than 1.0 μm diameter with a volume fraction of 5 to 40%. Fiber (whisker)-reinforced provides a distinguishing microstructural feature of fiber-reinforced materials, such as that the reinforcing fiber has one long dimension, while the reinforcing particles of the other two types do not. This publication serves as a reference data book to students and researchers aiming to acquire knowledge of the thermomechanical behavior of metal matrix composites.

Book Synopsis Fusion Bonding of Polymer Composites by : C. Ageorges
Download or read book Fusion Bonding of Polymer Composites written by C. Ageorges and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fusion bonding is one of the three methods available for joining composite and dissimilar materials. While the other two, mechanical fastening and adhesion bonding, have been the subject of wide coverage both in textbooks and monographs, fusion bonding is covered here substantially for the first time. Fusion bonding offers a number of advantages over traditional joining techniques and it is anticipated that its use will increase dramatically in the future because of the rise in the use of thermoplastic matrix composites and the growing necessity for recyclability of engineering assemblies. Fusion Bonding of Polymer Composites provides an in-depth understanding of the physical mechanisms involved in the fusion bonding process, covering such topics as: - heat transfer in fusion bonding; - modelling thermal degradation; - consolidation mechanisms; - crystallisation kinetics; - processing-microstructure-property relationship; - full-scale fusion bonding; - fusion bonding of thermosetting composite/thermoplastic composite and metal/thermoplastic joints. The book focuses on one practical case study using the resistance welding process. This example exposes the reader to the development of processing windows for a novel manufacturing process including the use of experimental test programmes and modelling strategies.
