Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book enables readers to become familiar with passive and active realizations of the impedances and important filter transfer functions (TFs). Firstly, time, s, and frequency domain analysis of the R-L, R-C, and R-L-C circuits are discussed. Then, active realizations of the impedances and TFs using different active devices are introduced. Readers will benefit from an example-driven approach to topics such as operational amplifiers, current followers, voltage followers, unity gain inverting amplifiers, negative impedance converters, first-generation current conveyors, second-generation current conveyors, third-generation current conveyors, differential voltage current conveyors, etc. will be introduced, which will be accompanied with a number of examples. Non-ideal gain effects on the performance of the active circuits are also demonstrated.

Book excerpt: I-V characteristics of negative impedance have been discovered since the early days of the Tetrode vacuum tube, and later during the semiconductor Tunnel diode. They have been applied then to achieve higher Q-factors for resonance circuits and design oscillator circuits. In 1951 J.L Merrill introduced two triodes vacuum tubes circuit performed as a negative impedance converter. Shortly after, J.G Linville introduced practically the same circuit utilizing double BJT's. The circuits were used in reducing the attenuation of the trans-oceanic under sea cable. Currently negative impedance became very popular in antenna's applications especially with the advanced MMIC technology. Since the early fifties few technical articles as well as few research projects were published on the subject matter. No books handling the basic fundamentals on the subject were published. This book is an attempt to compile and analyze negative impedance and Negative Immittance Converters (NIC) principles, characteristics, their basic theory and fundamentals, as well as their realization and pin point on parameters affecting their non ideal characteristics. This text book discusses systematically the subject and its basic principals. It allows the designer to understand the circuit function and to be able to design the circuit keeping in mind all aspects and parameters affecting negative impedance converters characteristics and behavior.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A research effort in Active Network Theory is described. The work includes tasks directed to the realization of active network functions and the applications of certain algebraic mathematical techniques to network theory. These studies concern (1) transfer function synthesis using tunnel diodes as active elements, (2) synthesis of transfer functions using nonideal negative impedance converters as the active devices, (3) construction of a network function from its specified even(odd) part, (4) driving-point function realization based on a polynomial decomposition approach, and (5) compatibility of impedance matrices of active multiports. The individual research tasks and the significant original technical contributions which resulted were reviewed, and a list of all publications completed during this period was given. Three tasks were reported in detail in the appendices. (Author).
