Book Synopsis Output Response to Currency Crises by : Deepak Mishra
Download or read book Output Response to Currency Crises written by Deepak Mishra and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2003-11-01 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper analyzes the behavior of output during currency crises using a sample of 195 crisis episodes in 91 developing countries during 1970-98. It finds that more than two-fifths of the crises in the sample were expansionary, and that output contraction was greater in large and more developed economies than in small and less developed economies. Currency crises have not been any more contractionary in the 1990s than in the previous two decades. Countries that traded less with the rest of the world, that had a relatively open capital account, and where crises were preceded by large capital inflows were more likely to be associated with contraction during crises. The contraction was more pronounced if trade competitors devalued, oil prices rose during the crisis, and postcrisis period was marked by tight monetary policy and expansionary fiscal policy.

Book Synopsis Release from Cibola by : Andres C. Salazar
Download or read book Release from Cibola written by Andres C. Salazar and published by Sunstone Press. This book was released on 2014-11-03 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reyes Córdova is a young boy tired of being poor and feeling hopeless. He is a descendant of religious and starry-eyed settlers from Spain that came to Cíbola seeking a fortune but found nothing but an inhospitable climate and an unstable relationship with Pueblo Indians. A stubborn lot, the settlers worked hard to make a living out of farming and ranching in a Rio del Norte valley in what is now Northern New Mexico. Now three hundred and fifty years later, and nearly a century after becoming part of the United States, Reyes’ Spanish-speaking, impoverished culture has made little inroads to assimilating into America. Reyes learns from teachers that mastering English can help him become more American and that will give him an opportunity for a good job. He becomes obsessed with learning the language, a task made difficult by his handicaps—illegitimate, a mother who speaks only Spanish, subsisting on public welfare—in addition to being part of a culture that promotes conformity, immediate gratification, close family relationships and xenophobic rejection of Anglophone society. Reyes’ story is told in a poignant and picaresque series of journal-like portraits that trace his emergence from the mystical realm of Cibola that is a blend of an ancient Pueblo culture, an archaic Spanish heritage, and an encroaching American dominion in the age of Eisenhower and its cataclysmic events—the hydrogen bomb, the Communist Menace, Sputnik, accelerated farm-to-urban migration, and momentous protests for minority and women’s rights. Release from Cibola is the first novel in a trilogy on the life of Reyes Córdova.

Download or read book CHURCHILL'S DOG HANDLER, WAS PRESCRIBED A TRANQUILIZER written by Sudipta Koushik Sarmah and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2024-08-08 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of poems by a person who prefers to speak less, write more. The Churchillian black dog has bitten and scratched him for years and hence, most of the poems in this collection are not uplifting, some might be downright depressing. Poems are anyways not written by happy people, by successful lovers or people who had a happy childhood. So by nature, they are supposed to be gloomy. These poems have been written over 10+ years, re-written and re-hashed numerous times to make the poet not feel embarrassed by his own writing. However, the themes and the hues have remained intact over the constant re-iterations. The poems are in no particular order, by theme, chronology or maturity. The author is simply looking to see if readers feel the inclination to finish the book once they have started.
