Book excerpt: Organ vascular injury is the basis of multiple organ damage. which is a complex pathological process with multiple mechanisms and links among mechanisms contributing to the disease. To cope much management often focuses a single drug on a single target which is frequently not entirely effective. Chinese medicine with a long traditional history extending more than 2000 years is a medical system that applies multiple ingredients associated with the resolution of complex disease problems. Numerous compounded Chinese medicines have shown very desirable effects on organ vascular injury related disease in clinical use. For example, a number of studies over the past decades has revealed a positive protective and therapeutic effect of compounded Chinese medicines and their major ingredients on Ischemia reperfusion-induced microcirculatory dysfunction and tissue injury in the heart, brain, liver, intestine, and lungs. These compounded medications contain diverse bioactive components with demonstrated ability to target energy metabolism; possess antioxidant effects; inhibit inflammatory cytokine release; alter adhesion molecule expression in leukocytes, platelets, and vascular endothelial cells; and the protect against thrombosis, albumin leakage, and mast cell degranulation.

Book Synopsis Drug Discovery and Evaluation: Methods in Clinical Pharmacology by : H.Gerhard Vogel
Download or read book Drug Discovery and Evaluation: Methods in Clinical Pharmacology written by H.Gerhard Vogel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-12-15 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drug Discovery and Evaluation has become a more and more difficult, expensive and time-consuming process. The effect of a new compound has to be detected by in vitro and in vivo methods of pharmacology. The activity spectrum and the potency compared to existing drugs have to be determined. As these processes can be divided up stepwise we have designed a book series "Drug Discovery and Evaluation" in the form of a recommendation document. The methods to detect drug targets are described in the first volume of this series "Pharmacological Assays" comprising classical methods as well as new technologies. Before going to man, the most suitable compound has to be selected by pharmacokinetic studies and experiments in toxicology. These preclinical methods are described in the second volume „Safety and Pharmacokinetic Assays". Only then are first studies in human beings allowed. Special rules are established for Phase I studies. Clinical pharmacokinetics are performed in parallel with human studies on tolerability and therapeutic effects. Special studies according to various populations and different therapeutic indications are necessary. These items are covered in the third volume: „Methods in Clinical Pharmacology".

Download or read book Network Pharmacology written by Shao Li and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-29 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces “network pharmacology” as an emerging frontier subject of systematic drug research in the era of artificial intelligence and big data. Network Pharmacology is an original subject of fusion system biology, bioinformatics, network science and other related disciplines. It emphasizes on starting from the overall perspective of the system level and biological networks, the analysis of the laws of molecular association between drugs and their treatment objects, reveals the systematic pharmacological mechanisms of drugs, and guides the research and development of new drugs and clinical diagnosis and treatment. After it was proposed, network pharmacology has been paid attention by researchers, and it has been rapidly developed and widely used. In order to systematically reveal the biological basis of diagnosis and treatment in traditional Chinese medicine and modern medicine, we proposed a new concept of "network target" for the first time, which has become the core theory of "network pharmacology". The core principle of a network target is to construct a biological network that can be used to decipher complex diseases. The network is then used as the therapeutic target, to which multicomponent remedies are applied. This book mainly includes four parts: 1) The concept and theory of network pharmacology; 2) Common analysis methods, databases and software in network pharmacological research; 3) Typical cases of traditional Chinese medicine modernization and modern drug research based on network pharmacology; 4) Network pharmacology practice process based on drugs and diseases.
Book Synopsis Cancer Cell Metabolism and Drug Targets by : Hai-long Piao
Download or read book Cancer Cell Metabolism and Drug Targets written by Hai-long Piao and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-11-22 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Targeted cancer metabolic pathway anti-cancer drugs achieved great success in malignant cancer treatment, however, inevitably the effect of almost all these drugs is compromised by the development of resistance. Given that recent evidence shows cancer cell metabolic reprogramming occurs after drug treatment, probably, there is a strong relationship between a specific target and particular metabolic pathway remodeling. Understanding the hidden fact and mechanisms under cell metabolism modulated by specific drug targets (in particular those related to precision medicine) may lead to the development of new therapeutic strategies to overcome drug resistance.
Book Synopsis Pharmacological Effects of Traditional Chinese Medicine on Cardiovascular Disease by : Jianxun Liu
Download or read book Pharmacological Effects of Traditional Chinese Medicine on Cardiovascular Disease written by Jianxun Liu and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2021-12-03 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiovascular diseases include ischemic and hemorrhagic diseases involving the heart, brain, whole body tissue, and includes coronary heart disease, heart failure, arrhythmia, atherosclerosis and stroke. This particular group of diseases continue to be a leading cause of death throughout the world with mortality rate remaining high. Currently, drugs administered orally and intravenously and surgical treatments are used to treat such diseases. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) refers to natural herbal medicines and their processed products used for preventing and treating disease under the guidance of traditional Chinese medicine’s theory. The implementation of prevention and treatment programs of ischemic cardiovascular diseases with the use of TCM have been associated with positive outcomes; in terms of a reduction in the disability and mortality rate of some patients. Other studies have also shown that specific multi-component TCM preparations have therapeutic benefits based on multi-target and multi-pathway mechanisms, which may have advantages over the current single-component and single-target therapy. Based these characteristics, approved pharmaceutical drugs based in TCM, such as Compound Danshen Dripping Pills, Naoxintong Capsules, Tonxinluo Capsules, and Danhong Injection, are currently used to treat cardiovascular diseases. However, there are a number of areas that still need further investigation. For example, the identification of effective components in herbal medicine is essential in furthering our understanding of what occurs at a pharmacological level; the metabolizing pharmacological pathways of such components; the cellular target of the components; and the lack of standardized guidelines to enhance clinical research.

Download or read book Understanding Traditional Chinese Medicine written by Friedrich G. Wallner and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents texts written by Austrian and Chinese experts in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The issue the authors worked on is the basic problem how to make a different system of medical thinking plausible for the Western world, especially for Western medicine. This issue is considered from different viewpoints - from the viewpoint of Western medicine that is familiar with Chinese medicine and contrariwise from the viewpoint of Chinese Medicine that is familiar with its Western counterpart and from a philosophical viewpoint. In this way both differences in the theoretical systems of Western and Chinese medicine and problems of adequate translation are profundly discussed.
Book Synopsis Western Biomedicine and Eastern Therapeutics by : Sun-Chong Wang
Download or read book Western Biomedicine and Eastern Therapeutics written by Sun-Chong Wang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Western Medicine (MWM) and Ayurveda/Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can be considered two extreme paradigms to complex systems. The microscopic and reductionist approach of the West prevails in acute and single-gene conditions such as infection and Mendelian disorders. The macroscopic and holistic approach of the East potentially fares well at chronic and complex conditions such as obesity and ageing. The book serves three purposes: 1) to help MWM, Ayurveda and TCM professionals get acquainted with one another; 2) to help identify common grounds for MWM, Ayurveda and TCM, rather than blindly westernizing eastern medicines or vice versa; and 3) to help translate the complementarity of MWM and Ayurveda/TCM toward an integrative multi-component healthcare. To this end, we introduce theories and tenets of the three medicines. We use bioenergetics to reconcile West and East as ATP generation, prana and qi are central to MWM, Ayurveda and TCM. We discuss clinical trials of varying experimental rigors for the assessment of the scientific evidence for treatment effectiveness. We present complementary interventions for chronic disorders and ageing. We hold that a federal unity of therapies consisting of MWM, Ayurveda and TCM better serves the wellbeing of humankind.
