Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Antimony, arsenic, bismuth, germanium, lead, selenium, tellurium and tin just some of the elements which, in trace amounts, have biological, environmental and technological importance. Hydride Generation Atomic Absorption Spectrometry describes one of the most accurate analytical techniques for trace analysis of these elements, sensitive to picogram levels. Over the last decade, significant instrumental and methodological progress has led to HG-AAS being widely applied to an extensive range of sample types. In this first comprehensive monograph on HG-AAS, the authors treat both theoretical and experimental aspects of the subject in a critical and in-depth manner. Hydride Generation Atomic Absorption Spectrometry is divided into two parts, with the theoretical background and experimental approach covered in Part I. Part II discusses the methodology and analytical applications to a wide range of fields, arranged in an easy to use element-by-element format. Over 1500 references provide an exhaustive coverage of the vast literature on HG-AAS, making Hydride Generation Atomic Absorption Spectrometry the premier reference source on this important technique. Hydride Generation Atomic Absorption Spectrometry will be an invaluable reference work for all analysts using hydride generation for AAS or for other spectrometric methods. It will also be of great interest to researchers and students working in atomic spectrometry and trace analysis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vapor Generation Techniques for Trace Element Analysis: Fundamental Aspects provides an overview and discussion of the fundamental aspects governing derivatization reactions of trace-level elements for analytical purposes. Vapor generation techniques coupled with atomic or mass spectrometry have been employed for over 50 years, but their popularity has dramatically increased in recent years, especially as alternative vapor generation approaches have been developed. This book bridges the knowledge gap of the derivatization mechanisms that yield volatile compounds and provides an update on recent developments in vapor generation techniques used for the determination and speciation of trace elements by atomic optical and mass spectrometry. It will serve as a comprehensive, single-source overview of recent developments, providing readers with an understanding of the correct implementation—and limitations—of applying vapor generation techniques to everyday analytical problems facing the trace element analyst. Covers reaction mechanisms and fundamental processes of vapor generation in detail Includes classical and alternative vapor generation approaches: alkylation, chelation, plasma, photochemical and electrochemical Guides the interpretation of experimental results and implementation of vapor generation techniques in the laboratory

Book excerpt: This book discusses in detail the application of physical separation procedures together with modern instrumental analysis techniques such as HPLC, gas chromatography, and anodic strip-ping voltammetry. Particular emphasis is given to environmental samples where the greatest concern for the effects of speciation on trace element transport, toxicity, and bioavailability have been ex-pressed. Special chapters are also devoted to methods of sam-pling and storage, and to the mathematical modeling of chemical speciation. Although designed for the practical analytical chemist, this publication is essential reading for researchers in or entering the field of chemical speciation.

This book was released on 2005 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A separation method utilizing a synthetic zeolite (mordenite) was developed in order to eliminate the gas phase interference of Sb(III) on As(III) during quartz furnace hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometric (HGAAS) determination. The efficiency of the proposed separation method in the reduction of suppression effects of several metal ions on As(III) signal was also investigated. Among the volatile hydride forming elements and their different oxidation states tested (Sb(III), Sb(V), Se(IV), Se(VI), Te(IV), and Te(VI)), only Sb(III) was found to have a signal depression effect even at low (æg l-1) concentrations under the experimental conditions employed. It has been shown that mordenite adsorbs Sb(III) quantitatively, even at a concentration of 1000 æg l-1, at pHs greater than 2, and also, it reduces the initial concentrations of the metal ions to lower levels which can be tolerated in many studies. The adsorption of Sb(III) on mordenite follows the Freundlich isotherm and is endothermic in nature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accurate determination of trace elements is critical in various fields of science and technology. Direct measurement of trace elements in samples with complex matrices is often impractical, either due to analytical sensitivity limitations or matrix interferences. Preconcentration procedures are generally needed to eliminate matrix interferences and/or enrich minute amounts of analytes to a level for reliable measurements. Preconcentration Techniques for Trace Elements provides up-to-date information on various preconcentration techniques and detailed discussions regarding such topics as the dissolution of matrices, coprecipitation, solvent extraction, electrochemical means, ion exchange, sorption, chromatographic methods, flotation, membranes, volatization, polymer foam sorbents, fire assay, isotachophoresis, and filter papers. This comprehensive volume, featuring contributions from 21 experts from nine countries, will provide valuable reference material for all scientists and technicians dealing with trace analysis of real-world samples.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (FAAS), which has gained worldwide acceptance as an analytical technique. FAAS offers 100-1000 times better determination and detection limits than other techniques for a majority of the elements. This technique requires a small sample size, and demands less sample-preparation time than others. The handbook is a collection of thousands of references for detection and determination of various elements in agricultural products, biological and clinical samples, and metallurgical and electronic materials. Each chapter is devoted to an element or a similar group of elements. Included are instrumental setup parameters, references, and author and subject indexes. Also presented are detailed appendixes covering glossary, list of manufacturers of spectrophotometers and its accessories, list of chemical suppliers, and list of reviews and abstracts. The handbook covers topics such as heavy metals, clinical products, and trace metal analysis. This desk-top reference is meant for chemists who handle day-to-day analysis problems in laboratories in government, clinical, industrial and academic settings. It is invaluable for those involved in research in environmental science, analytical chemistry, clinical chemistry and forensic science.
