Book Synopsis Handbook of Carcinogenic Potency and Genotoxicity Databases by : Lois Swirsky Gold
Download or read book Handbook of Carcinogenic Potency and Genotoxicity Databases written by Lois Swirsky Gold and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-11-26 with total page 840 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique new reference contains the Carcinogenic Potency Database (CPDB), which analyzes results of decades of animal cancer tests, including all Technical Reports of the National Toxicology Program (NTP) and the general published literature. A guide to the literature of animal cancer tests, the CPDB includes references to each published experiment and never-before published analyses. For each of 5,000 long-term experiments on 1,300 chemicals, the user-friendly format includes data on the species, strain, and sex of the test animal; features of experimental protocol such as the route of administration, duration of dosing, dose levels, and duration of the experiment; histopathology and tumor incidence; the shape of the dose-response curve; published author's opinion about the carcinogenicity at each site; and reference to the original publication of the test results. In addition, a measure of carcinogenic potency, the TD50, its statistical significance and confidence limits, are given for each tumor site. An overview is provided of earlier publication updates, such as positivity rates, reproducibility, interspecies extrapolation, and ranking possible carcinogenic hazards. The book also includes a summary of the NTP genetic toxicity test results on 1,500 chemicals, which are referenced to the original publications, including the Salmonella (Ames) test, L5178Y mouse lymphoma cell mutation test, chromosome aberration and sister chromatid exchange tests in cultured Chinese hamster ovary cells, and the sex-linked recessive lethal mutation test in Drosophila melanogaster. An index with chemicals listed by CAS number allows cross referencing between the carcinogenicity and genotoxicity databases, making data easy to find.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With about 10–20% of the adult population in Europe being tattooed, there is a strong demand for publications discussing the various issues related to tattooed skin and health. Until now, only a few scientific studies on tattooing have been published. This book discusses different aspects of the various medical risks associated with tattoos, such as allergic reactions from red tattoos, papulo-nodular reactions from black tattoos as well as technical and psycho-social complications, in addition to bacterial and viral infections. Further sections are dedicated to the composition of tattoo inks, and a case is made for the urgent introduction of national and international regulations. Distinguished authors, all specialists in their particular fields, have contributed to this publication which provides a comprehensive view of the health implications associated with tattooing. The book covers a broad range of topics that will be of interest to clinicians and nursing staff, toxicologists and regulators as well as laser surgeons who often face the challenge of having to remove tattoos, professional tattooists and producers of tattoo ink.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neuro-oncologic (brain and spine) cancers account for 19,000 new cases and 13,000 deaths per year. The early and proper diagnosis of these virulent cancers is critical to patient outcomes and diagnosis and treatment strategies are continually evolving. The multidisciplinary team that manages these patients involves medical and radiation oncology, neurosurgery, neuroimaging, nurses and therapists. Principles and Practices of Neuro-Oncology establishes a new gold standard in care through a comprehensive, multidisciplinary text covering all aspects of neuro-oncology. Six major sections cover all topics related to epidemiology and etiology, molecular biology, clinical features and supportive care, imaging, neuroanatomy and neurosurgery, medical oncology and targeted therapies, and radiation oncology for adult and pediatric cancers. Expert contributors from multiple disciplines provide detailed and in-depth discussions of the entire field of neuro-oncology including histopathologic harmonization, neurosurgical techniques, quality of life and cognitive functions, and therapeutic changes in terms of combined modality treatments, advanced radiation techniques, the advent of new drugs, especially targeted agents, and the tantalizing early promise of personalized therapeutic approaches. With contributions from over 180 authors, numerous diagrams, illustrations and tables, and a 48 page color section, Principles and Practice of Neuro-Oncology reflects the breadth and depth of this multi-faceted specialty.

This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of the IARC Monographs provides an assessment of the carcinogenicity of 18 chemicals present in industrial and consumer products or food (natural constituents, contaminants, or flavorings) or occurring as water-chlorination by-products. The compounds evaluated include the widely used plasticizer di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate and the food contaminant 4-methylimidazole. In view of the limited agent-specific information available from epidemiological studies, the IARC Monographs Working Group relied mainly on carcinogenicity bioassays, and mechanistic and other relevant data to evaluate the carcinogenic hazards to humans exposed to these agents.

Book Synopsis Phthalates and Cumulative Risk Assessment by : National Research Council
Download or read book Phthalates and Cumulative Risk Assessment written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2009-01-19 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People are exposed to a variety of chemicals throughout their daily lives. To protect public health, regulators use risk assessments to examine the effects of chemical exposures. This book provides guidance for assessing the risk of phthalates, chemicals found in many consumer products that have been shown to affect the development of the male reproductive system of laboratory animals. Because people are exposed to multiple phthalates and other chemicals that affect male reproductive development, a cumulative risk assessment should be conducted that evaluates the combined effects of exposure to all these chemicals. The book suggests an approach for cumulative risk assessment that can serve as a model for evaluating the health risks of other types of chemicals.
