Book excerpt: The internet is established in most households worldwide and used for entertainment purposes, shopping, social networking, business activities, banking, telemedicine, and more. As more individuals and businesses use this essential tool to connect with each other and consumers, more private data is exposed to criminals ready to exploit it for their gain. Thus, it is essential to continue discussions involving policies that regulate and monitor these activities, and anticipate new laws that should be implemented in order to protect users. Cyber Law, Privacy, and Security: Concepts, Methodologies, Tools, and Applications examines current internet and data protection laws and their impact on user experience and cybercrime, and explores the need for further policies that protect user identities, data, and privacy. It also offers the latest methodologies and applications in the areas of digital security and threats. Highlighting a range of topics such as online privacy and security, hacking, and online threat protection, this multi-volume book is ideally designed for IT specialists, administrators, policymakers, researchers, academicians, and upper-level students.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now no longer necessary to argue the importance of agent technology. Be- des numerous conferences and workshops on speci c aspects of agent technology there are also many companies that are exploring its exploitation possibilities. In the light of these developments and in order to foster the transfer of agent technology from research labs to business, the EU has funded a \network of exc- lence" devoted to agent technology. This network of excellence, called AgentLink (http://www. agentlink. org/), aims at bringing together research groups from d- ferent countries and industrial developers. The ultimate goal is to create synergy among the di erent projects and groups to improve the competence of European industry and the excellence of academia. In order to achieve this goal, Agent- Link organises educational activities (summer schools), builds agent-related - terature repositories, and facilitates collaboration between member nodes. One of the main activities related to the last point are the regular meetings of \S- cial Interest Groups" (SIGs). At this moment six SIGs are functioning, focusing on topics ranging from agent based social simulation to intelligent agents for telecommunications applications and telematics. The current book combines two results from the activities of the SIG on \Agent Mediated Electronic Commerce". This SIG gathers the main research groups and industrial partners interested in the use of agent technology in el- tronic commerce. First and foremost the book contains a roadmap of research and current technological developments in the area of agent-mediated electronic commerce.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fast-food worker finds refuge in a bathroom stall to respond to her boyfriend's fifth message in an hour. The human resources manager sees a colleague sending a stream of text messages during a meeting and quickly grabs her mobile to make sure she's also multitasking. These scenarios are common, but unique to the 21st century. Until the early 2000s, workplaces provided most of the computers and portable devices that employees used to perform their jobs and communicate with others. Today, people bring their own mobile devices to work and create new norms for how communication occurs in the workplace. Managers and organizations respond by setting and enforcing new policies that are intended to help them navigate the ever-changing mobile-communication environment. In Negotiating Control: Organizations and Mobile Communication, Keri K. Stephens responds to the struggles of employees, organizations, and even friends and family, as they try to understand new norms for connectedness in the workplace. Drawing on over two decades of her own research and fieldwork, , representing people in over 35 different types of jobs, Stephens claims that though people assume mobile communication is a uniform practice, there are underlying -- and often hidden -- issues of control and power at play, which shape how people are permitted and expected to use mobiles to communicate while working. The accounts Stephens offers reveal the many ways that these portable tools are actually used across work environments today, integrating information, communication, and data, and connecting people in expected and often conflicting ways.

This book was released on 2009-10-15 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As intelligent autonomous agents and multiagent system applications become more pervasive, it becomes increasingly important to understand the risks associated with using these systems. Incorrect or inappropriate agent behavior can have harmful - fects, including financial cost, loss of data, and injury to humans or systems. For - ample, NASA has proposed missions where multiagent systems, working in space or on other planets, will need to do their own reasoning about safety issues that concern not only themselves but also that of their mission. Likewise, industry is interested in agent systems that can search for new supply opportunities and engage in (semi-) automated negotiations over new supply contracts. These systems should be able to securely negotiate such arrangements and decide which credentials can be requested and which credentials may be disclosed. Such systems may encounter environments that are only partially understood and where they must learn for themselves which aspects of their environment are safe and which are dangerous. Thus, security and safety are two central issues when developing and deploying such systems. We refer to a multiagent system’s security as the ability of the system to deal with threats that are intentionally caused by other intelligent agents and/or s- tems, and the system’s safety as its ability to deal with any other threats to its goals.

Book excerpt: This book contains the best papers from the International Conference on Web Inf- mation Systems and Technologies (WEBIST 2007), organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC), endorsed by IW3C2, and held in Barcelona, Spain. The purpose of WEBIST is to bring together researchers, engineers, and practit- ners interested in the technological advances and business applications of web-based information systems. It has four main topic areas, covering different aspects of web information systems, namely, internet technology; web interfaces and applications; society, e-business and e-government; and e-learning. WEBIST 2007 received 367 submissions from more than 50 countries across all continents. After a double-blind review process, with the help of more than 200 - perts from the international program committee, and also after presentation at the conference, 23 papers were finally selected. Their extended and revised versions are published in this book. This strict selection made the conference appealing to a global audience of engineers, scientists, business practitioners, and policy experts. The - pers accepted and presented at the conference demonstrated a number of new and innovative solutions for e-business and web information systems in general, showing that the technical problems in this field are challenging and worth further R&D effort. The program of this conference also included three outstanding keynote lectures presented by internationally renowned distinguished researchers. Their keynote speeches reinforced the overall quality of the event.
