Book Synopsis To Touch Hearts - Pedagogical Spirituality and St. John Baptist de La Salle by : George Van Grieken FSC
Download or read book To Touch Hearts - Pedagogical Spirituality and St. John Baptist de La Salle written by George Van Grieken FSC and published by George Van Grieken FSC. This book was released on 2011-03-25 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work addresses Lasallian pedagogical spirituality, defined as the dynamic integration of foundational convictions, basic operative commitments, and consistent practices permeating the teaching dimensions of schools that claim the heritage of St. John Baptist de La Salle and the Brothers of the Christian Schools. The dissertation examines the content of Lasallian pedagogical spirituality and proposes measures for realizing its vitality within Lasallian school life. Particular pedagogical characteristics, components of an overall pedagogical spirituality, are present in the original charism of St. John Baptist de La Salle. The basic operative commitments that underlie those characteristics ought to be integrally realized in a pedagogy that claims to be Lasallian and wholly incorporated in the formation of Lasallian educators. There are three sequential parts to the dissertation: 1) an overview of the St. John Baptist de La Salle's context and personal history, 2) an overview of his literature followed by an analysis of aspects of Lasallian pedagogical spirituality evidenced in that literature according to five pedagogical elements: the teacher, the student, the teacher/student relationship, the activity of teaching, and the school in general, and 3) a contemporary articulation of the Lasallian basic operative commitments that characterize his spirituality today, along with their implications for the formation of Lasallian educators Extrapolating from the life and writings of De La Salle, ten Lasallian operative commitments are proposed. The commitments are presented in the form of attributes that may be applied to Lasallian institutions and their pedagogical components: 1) centered in and nurtured by the life of faith, 2) trusting providence in discerning God's will, 3) with creativity and fortitude, 4) through the agency the Holy Spirit, 5) incarnating Christian paradigms & dynamics, 6) with practical orientation, 7) devoted to education, accessible and comprehensive, 8) committed to the poor, 9) working in association, 10) expressing a lay vocation. The dissertation concludes by presenting teacher formation structures and strategies for introducing Lasallian operative commitments and by providing a Lasallian Mission and Vision Statement.

Drawing on biblical material and business wisdom, In Pursuit of Great AND Godly Leadership explores the critical leadership decisions and practices that shape the success of Christian organizations. These decisions are illustrated in compelling interviews with over forty leaders of churches, universities, denominational bodies, and international ministries. Mike Bonem leverages his background as an MBA-trained manager and an experienced church leader to bridge the gap between the analytical and structured world of business and the faith-driven approach that is essential for healthy churches. Written to offer practical solutions for senior pastors, executive pastors, key laypeople, and leaders of other Christian entities, In Pursuit of Great AND Godly Leadership clearly shows the ways that secular practices can be imported into their organizations. Bonem addresses a variety of topics such as planning, finances, personnel management, measurement, team dynamics, and organizational change. Book Synopsis Touching Hearts Through Poetry by : Dora Davis-Kennedy
Download or read book Touching Hearts Through Poetry written by Dora Davis-Kennedy and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-03-16 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I can remember writing poetry as early as the age of fourteen. For me, writing poems was either an expression of young love or a means of escaping farm life. I do know I write what I feel deep in my heart. Sometimes I would daydream about what life would be like after leaving the farm. At that time, I did not appreciate or value the importance of farm life. Then falling in love for the first time gave me words that would flow like water. That was the beginning of my poetry. Then came my retirement from the Air Force. I took a job as a substitute teacher to test the waters and see if I wanted to go back to the classroom. On May 23, 1995, was my last substitute teaching positions for the year. The last period of the day was a literature class, and yes, you guessed it, it was an assignment to write a poem. After directing the students on what they were to do, I sat back, thought about my daughter, who was also graduating, and at that moment, I wrote with them. The poem that came out of that session, "Life Captured," was the first in this book. After that, the words would sometimes overwhelm me. It did not matter where or when. I would sometimes wake up from a deep sleep, and there were words on my heart. Driving down the street, I would have to pull off the road. And can you imagine sitting in church, concentrating on the words of the pastor, and poem comes into your heart? That is what it was like for next few years. When the word came, I made every effort to put them on paper. If I did not have a notepad, I would write on whatever was available, a store receipts, the back of an envelope, or even a paper bag. It did not matter; I just knew I had to capture the words. You see, there was a problem with these abrupt encounters with words. I found, through experience, that I could not ignore them because if I did, they would be lost. Yes, the words that were flowing so freely at the time would be gone if I did not take heed at that exact moment. So I learned incredibly early that it did not matter when or where the words came; I had to stop everything and write them down. So you see, my poetry comes to me at times when the spirit urges it. I cannot just will a poem to be. It must be stirred up in my spirit. My poetry is a combination of spiritual and emotional love. The love for people and my love of God. I never know which will spark the flame, and that does not matter, but I do know I must be ready to put pen to paper when it happens.

In any case, in order to improve group communications and dynamics, it is necessary to have the crucial conversations that are too often avoided. While perceptions are not harmful, for the most part, if not managed well, they could ignite destructive behaviors, which lead to negative outcomes. Perhaps one of the most powerful methods for managing perceptions is opening the lines of communication and providing constructive feedback in a timely, consistent manner. At the core of managing perceptions, which in turn manages expectations, is trust. Trust breeds the opportunity for healthy perception, exchange, and resolution. In this book I want to develop leaders with as servant leaders, acquiring the skills and knowledge to tackle the complex challenges facing modern organizations today. Leadership can be a very challenging thing at times and more than ever we need leaders with the character, temperament, and boldness to even lead past perception.

Download or read book CREATIVITY MATTERS written by Seda Röder and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-10-15 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most books on creativity put one individual at the center of their narrative as the sole genius. But in a world where we need everybody's creative input for finding fresh answers, glorifying single individuals as "creative geniuses" sends out the wrong message. In sixteen personal stories shared by members of the Sonophilia community, Creativity Matters aims to encourage everyday people to unlock their creativity to tackle business, community and personal issues. Our essays manifest that no one is too small to make an impact and that the definition of creativity is as diverse as the people putting it into work. We have made an effort to write this book because we believe that creativity should not be seen as a privilege but as the essence of what makes us human. Now the time has come to demystify and to democratize creativity!
