Book excerpt: ''This exhibition includes works placed directly on the floor, suspended from the ceiling or applied to the windows or walls of the gallery. In her catalogue essay, Laura Richard Janku compares Feher's sculptural practices to the improvisational virtuosity of Ella Fitzgerald, "Like the legendary scatters, Tony Feher intuitively uses familiar pattern, variation, allusion, and quotation to produce transcendent artworks that are anchored formally, but soar with innovation, personality, humor, and catharsis."--

Download or read book Tony Feher: Drawings written by and published by Gregory R. Miller. This book was released on 2022-11-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A cornucopia of rarely seen drawings, full of delicacy and wit, from the acclaimed sculptor American artist Tony Feher (1956-2016) was best known for his sculptures and site-determined installations made of ubiquitous, everyday objects such as plastic bottles, glass jars, marbles, twine, cardboard boxes and other mass-produced items. It is less well known was that he was also a prolific draftsman who drew incessantly throughout his career. At the time of his death in 2016, Feher had assembled an archive of nearly 1,000 drawings--on napkins, discarded correspondence, restaurant menus, lined paper--which are now in the collection of the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. In hasty arrays of image and text, these drawings reflect the same singular wit and aesthetic sensitivity that underpinned all his work. This monograph presents for the first time a selection of Feher's drawings: full of jokes, poems, schematic illustrations and the repeated images (such as a jug of water hung on cord) that would later populate his sculptural installations.

Download or read book Bough Down written by Karen Green and published by Siglio Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book of dualities, probing the small spaces between lucidity and madness, desire and ambivalence, the living and the absent. Both an evocation of her love for her husband David Foster Wallace and an act of defiance in the face of devastating loss, Bough Down is a lapidary, keenly observed and composed work, awash with the honesty of an open heart.
