Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An elegant, wry, and superbly nuanced story about a woman with three sons—and three daughters in law—who must come to terms with the new configuration of her family. As Anthony and Rachel Brinkley welcome their third daughter-in-law to the family, they don’t quite realize the profound shift that is about to take place. For different reasons, the Brinkleys’ two previous daughters-in-law hadn’t been able to resist Rachel’s maternal control and Anthony’s gentle charm and had settled into their husbands’ family without rocking the boat. But Charlotte—very young, very beautiful, and spoiled—has no intention of falling into step with the Brinkleys and wants to establish her own household. Soon Rachel’s sons begin to think of their own houses as home and of their mother’s house as simply the place where their parents live—a necessary and inevitable shift of loyalties that threatens Rachel’s sense of herself, breaks Anthony’s heart, and causes unexpected consequences in all the marriages. Then a crisis brings these changes to the surface, and everyone has to learn what family love means all over again.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The original publications of the 1930s are scarcely to be found. The posthumous 1962 volume in the Soviet Union was limited to a tiny edition. Yet the work of the man who has been called "the foremost authority on Jewish folk music before the Holocaust," Moshe Beregovski, survives and is now available for the first time to the English-speaking world. As a member of the Jewish community as well as an ethnomusicologist in prewar Russia, Beregovski had not only the inspiration to preserve the spirit and vitality of the music that filled the lives of his people but also the professional training to document his findings to exacting standards. The first section of SIobin's book contains translations of some of Beregovski's responses to Jewish folk music in its living context during the 1930s. He raises important questions about ethnicity in his essay on interaction between Ukrainian and Jewish musical influences. His work on klezmer music. the music of the Jewish folk instrumental bands, is the most authoritative on the subject and includes his complete guide to fieldworkers in folk music. In another essay Beregovski analyzes an unmistakable trademark of Jewish folk music, the "altered Dorian" scale, and its symbolism in Eastern European Jewish culture. The second section constitutes Beregovski's anthologies of hundreds of folk songs with full Yiddish and English song texts. Each song is carefully notated exactly as it was sung and is accompanied by Beregovski's notes on origins and variants. Beregovski's essays and transcriptions form a pat and a symbol of what was lost in the mass destruction of Eastern European Jewish culture in this century. They form a cultural record of deep significance not only for the Jewish people, but also for folklorists and scholars as evidence of a distinctive music culture that interacted with—and influenced—the folk musics of Eastern Europe.

After escaping her roots nearly a decade ago, she’s forced to return to her childhood home to be cared for by her devoted and enigmatic mother. Vivi has always known the woman is hiding something and now she’s determined to find out what it is. Though her condition makes her fragile and vulnerable and she’s afraid of what may happen, her spirit remains strong. Then comes an unexpected ray of light. Josh Raynor, a local veterinarian who his sisters claim is too handsome for his own good, brings a forbidden love to Vivi’s world. Josh and Vivi are soon inseparable, unaware of the past their families share. All Vivi knows is that Josh is wrestling with a demon of his own . . . What did they think? What were their expectations, their fears, their dreams? The history of what happened is available in the scriptures, but one can only imagine the missing pieces. Reading Between the Lines fills in those gaps fictionally. The characters are presented as ordinary people, experiencing the same ups and downs that most people do. Seven outstanding characters from the Bible are herein explored in their entirety: Leah, Aaron, Naomi, Jonathan, Abigail, King Josiah, and Esther. Reading Between the Lines reveals what might have occurred and what could have happened to all of them. As a result, these beloved Old Testament characters are viewed in a totally new light, and they will be long remembered.

Book excerpt: Through a friend in Topanga, the hippie community west of Los Angeles, the author came into contact with Uschi Obermaier, the mother of all supermodels. The female icon of the 68s already toured in the mid-70s in a luxury RV India, USA and Mexico. When in a picture story Marianne Meyer saw the sex symbol and her partner Dieter Bockhorn in their camping bus, the wish for such a house on wheels was born. But with the emigration to the USA everything came quite different. But after a 10-year life of luxury in LA, the conversation with the Bavarian caused butterflies in the stomach of the Ph.D. nutritionist and woke again her desire to travel. She longed for a change. An ever-changing view from the window of an apartment on wheels is exactly what her gypsies blood desires. Her mother's father was a boatmen and always on the Neckar, Rhine and Waal on the go to Rotterdam. Her first six months tour through Morocco with her husband Peter was in 1998/99. On the contrary to her famous relative Doris Day, who visited Morocco only once when she filmed the Hitchcock movie "The Man Who Knew Too Much", the author is one of the returnees. There are only two statements of tourists: Morocco once and never again and Morocco again and again.

Book excerpt: Thank you for taking time to read Notes to My Loves. I was inspired to write this book about ten years ago. It began as a thought and evolved into something I didnt expect, and it has taught me priceless lessons that I am excited to share with you. When I was a little girl, I loved eating at the Chinese restaurant because I knew that after dinner, I was going to get a fortune cookie. The anticipation and excitement I felt knowing that at the end of my meal I would be getting a positive note concerning my bright future was special and something I would share with others I cared about. When we write a note, it should be positive and uplifting. Never leave a negative note for your love because they will never forget it! Its almost like branding negative in their memory, and the next time they see a note from you, they will look at it and say, Oh my gracious, what now? I learned this the hard way [smiling]! Happy reading and writing.

They both worked hard but had no love life. They knew each other thirty-six years ago. She knew who he was, but he did not remember her when they were old military friends married to someone else. Through it all, they kept the faith that maybe, one day, they will find love again. They ended up working for the same company and ran into each other again. Later on, their hearts started to pump. Prayers were answered, hope came alive, and faith became stronger. Sure enough, when life find its place, it's a beautiful, wonderful thang.
