This book was released on 2019-01-04 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radar cross section (RCS) calculations for flat, perfectly conducting plates are readily available through the use of conventional frequency domain techniques such as the Method of Moments (MOM). However, if the plate is covered with a dielectric material that is relatively thick in comparison with the wavelength in the material, these frequency domain techniques become increasingly difficult to apply. The application is presented of the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) technique to the problem of electromagnetic scattering and RCS calculations from a thin, perfectly conducting plate that is coated with a thick layer of lossless dielectric material. Both time domain and RCS calculations are presented and discussed. Luebbers, Raymond J. and Beggs, John H. NASA-CR-190106, NAS 1.26:190106 NAG1-1221...

Book Synopsis Radar Cross Section of a Perfectly Conducting, Flat, Polygonal Plate Over a Dielectric, Lossy Half Space: A Closed Form, Physical Optics Expression by : Hristos T. Anastassiu
Download or read book Radar Cross Section of a Perfectly Conducting, Flat, Polygonal Plate Over a Dielectric, Lossy Half Space: A Closed Form, Physical Optics Expression written by Hristos T. Anastassiu and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Physical Optics approximation is employed in the derivation of a closed form expression for the Radar Cross Section (RCS) of a flat, polygonal, perfectly conducting (PEC) plate, located over a dielectric, possibly lossy half space. The well-known "four-path model" is invoked in a first order approximation of the half space contribution to the scattering mechanisms. Numerical results are successfully compared to a reference, Moment Method solution. The analytical expressions derived can facilitate very fast RCS calculations for realistic scatterers, such as ships in a sea environment, or aircraft flying low over the ground.

Book Synopsis Theory and Applications of the 3-Dimensional Finite-Difference Time- Domain Method by :
Download or read book Theory and Applications of the 3-Dimensional Finite-Difference Time- Domain Method written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 3-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method is a numerical method for solving electromagnetic penetration and scattering problems. It uses a finite difference representation of the time dependent Maxwell equations. The object of interest is embedded in a lattice and the time is divided in discrete intervals. By applying the finite-difference equations for every time step the propagation and scattering of waves is simulated. In this report the 3- dimensional FD-TD method and its algorithms are explained. Results are presented for a perfectly conducting plate, cube and wedge and for a dielectric layered sphere. The calculated results agree with experimental and, exact theoretical results. Numerical computations, Finite difference method, Scattering of electromagnetic waves, Maxwell equation, Radar cross section, Time domain method, Boundary conditions.
Book Synopsis Ultra-Wideband Radar by : Bruce Noel
Download or read book Ultra-Wideband Radar written by Bruce Noel and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-09-06 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book features 37 full-length, peer-reviewed versions of papers presented at the First Los Alamos Symposium on Ultra-Wideband Radar. The purpose of the symposium was to offer an open, unbiased forum where researchers in areas connected to ultra-wideband radar (UWBR) could present results of their work and exchange ideas. The papers published from the proceedings illuminate the breadth and depth of the topic and cover seven general areas: fundamental electromagnetic theory; computational electromagnetics and code development; signal propagation, scattering, and reception; new technologies, advanced arrays, and imaging; signal processing and radar systems; and applications and testing. The book will provide stimulating reading for scientists, engineers, managers, and students working with UWBR.

This book was released on 2020 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation presents a theory of the time-domain radar cross section (RCS) of large conducting objects in discrete random media. The time-domain formula is obtained by applying the inverse Fourier transform of the two-frequency mutual coherence function (MCF) which is derived from both the 2nd order Rytov approximation and the strong fluctuation theory. The general formulation contains the 4th order moment which includes the correlation between the forward and the backward waves. The 4th order moment can be reduced to the summation of the 2nd order moments by assuming the fields are circular complex Gaussian random variables. The stochastic Green's function is simplified using the parabolic equation (PE) approximation, and the sizes of the conducting objects are large in terms of wavelength; therefore, the Kirchhoff approximation is applicable for calculating the surface fields. This theory includes both the backscattering enhancement and the time-domain shower curtain effect that are not normally considered in the conventional theory. Numerical examples of the time-domain RCS of a conducting square plate in a discrete random medium characterized by the Gaussian phase function are shown to highlight the random media effects on the time-domain waveforms including time delay and pulse broadening in terms of optical depth and random medium location. Numerical results show that both pulse arrival time and pulse broadening increase significantly when the random media is placed far away from the object. This degradation of the image quality, known as the shower curtain effect, can be explained by the characteristics of the incoherent component.
