Book excerpt: Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Through Death to Life: Discourses on St. Paul's Great Resurrection Chapter These expository discourses have been publicly uttered from the pulpit in the regular course of my ministry. They are printed because so many persons who have been bereaved have expressed to me their deliberate judgment that they are likely to be helpful to a wider audience than that which listened to them. I have thought it undesirable to make detailed references to the literature of the subject, or to the learned men whom I have consulted in the preparation of these sermons. Quotation marks all over a page are a disfigurement. Paragraphs will be found which probably owe even their structure to others. But it is enough that the sermons are at least as much my own as Shakespeare's dramas are his. It may be as well to state that I have derived help in the direction of verifying exegesis from Bengel, Alford, Wordsworth, Bishop Ellicott, Dr. A. M. Fairbairn, Professor Godet, Dr. Gloag, Rev. H. Burton, Dr. Oswald Dykes, Rev. J. A. Best, Dr. S. Cox, Rev. W. J. Deane, Canon Westcott, Dr. George Matheson, the great old book, West on the Resurrection, Canon Farrar, Dr. E. H. Plumptre, F. D. Maurice, F. W. Robertson, Dr. D. R. Goodwin (in Smiths Dictionary of the Bible), Leo. H. Grindon, Dr. Hanna, Rev. E. H. Sears, and others. Present-day scholars can be significantly challenged as they forage through voluminous documents on the resurrection of Jesus. The literature measures well over seven thousand sources in English-language books alone. This makes finding specific sources that are most relevant for specific scholarly purposes an arduous task. Even when a specific book is relevant, finding the parts of the book that are most relevant to the resurrection rather than other topics often requires additional effort. A Thematic Access-Oriented Bibliography of Jesus’s Resurrection addresses these challenges in several ways. First, the bibliography organizes more than seven thousand English sources into twelve main categories and then thirty-four subcategories, which are designed to help you find the most relevant literature quickly and efficiently. Embedded are pro and con arguments which support efficient access through brief annotations and then annotate the diversity and complexity of the field of religion by including sources that represent a diverse range of views: theistic (e.g., Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc.), agnostic, and nontheistic. The objective of this bibliography is to provide convenient access to relevant sources from a variety of perspectives, allowing you to browse or find the one source accurately and with ease.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The resurrection of Jesus is arguably the most significant component of the Christian narrative and is critical for Paul’s presentation of the Gospel. Yet it is routinely marginalized in study of the polemics of Galatians, largely because it is explicitly mentioned only once, and even then, only obliquely. This investigation redraws the boundaries of its impact in the letter, showing the risen Christ to be an indispensable feature of how Paul’s argument unfolds and achieves its ultimate objective—establishing a rationale for the creation of a multiethnic eschatological family of God, which is grounded in Israel’s biblical tradition.
