Book Synopsis Three-Dimensional Electromagnetics by : P.E. Wannamaker
Download or read book Three-Dimensional Electromagnetics written by P.E. Wannamaker and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-07-08 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "3-D modeling and inversion is a reality, and not an illusion." This is the clear conclusion of the Second International Symposium on Three-Dimensional Electromagnetics held at the University of Utah in 1999. Containing papers submitted by 36 authors, this volume, by the sheer number of works, their diversity, and the truly international character of the efforts attests to the vigor with which the problems of the field are pursued today. The papers in this book are grouped in three parts: 3-D EM modeling; 3-D EM inversion; and 3-D EM in practice. They cover a wide range of topics in forward modeling and inversion based on new fast approximate approaches and new efficient solutions by integral equation, finite difference and finite elements techniques. If the 1980s were the decade of rapid development in 3D seismics, the 1990s became the decade of growing interest of practical geophysicists in 3D EM modeling and inversion methods. The contributions contained in this volume represent a snapshot of today's state-of-the-art in three-dimensional electromagnetics.

Book Synopsis The Boundary Element Method in Geophysics by : Shi-zhe Xu
Download or read book The Boundary Element Method in Geophysics written by Shi-zhe Xu and published by SEG Books. This book was released on 2001 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The boundary element method (BEM) divides only the boundaries of the region under investigation into elements, so it diminishes the dimensionality of the problem, e.g., the 3D problem becomes a 2D problem, and the 2D problem becomes a 1D problem. This simplifies inputting the model into a computer and greatly reduces the number of algebraic equations. The advantage of this is even more evident for some 3D and infinite regional problems that often are encountered in geophysics. Originally published in China, this well-organized book is likely the most comprehensive work on the subject of solving applied geophysical problems. Basic mathematical principles are introduced in Chapter 1, followed by a general yet thorough discussion of BEM in Chapter 2. Chapters 3 through 7 introduce the applications of BEM to solve problems of potential-field continuation and transformation, gravity and magnetic anomalies modeling, electric resistivity and induced polarization field modeling, magnetotelluric modeling, and various seismic modeling problems. Finally, in Chapter 8, a brief discussion is provided on how to incorporate BEM and the finite-element method (FEM) together. In each chapter, detailed practical examples are given, and comparisons to both analytic and other numerical solutions are presented. This is an excellent book for numerically oriented geophysicists and for use as a textbook in numerical-analysis classes.
Download or read book Treatise on Geophysics written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-04-17 with total page 5604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Treatise on Geophysics, Second Edition, is a comprehensive and in-depth study of the physics of the Earth beyond what any geophysics text has provided previously. Thoroughly revised and updated, it provides fundamental and state-of-the-art discussion of all aspects of geophysics. A highlight of the second edition is a new volume on Near Surface Geophysics that discusses the role of geophysics in the exploitation and conservation of natural resources and the assessment of degradation of natural systems by pollution. Additional features include new material in the Planets and Moon, Mantle Dynamics, Core Dynamics, Crustal and Lithosphere Dynamics, Evolution of the Earth, and Geodesy volumes. New material is also presented on the uses of Earth gravity measurements. This title is essential for professionals, researchers, professors, and advanced undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of Geophysics and Earth system science. Comprehensive and detailed coverage of all aspects of geophysics Fundamental and state-of-the-art discussions of all research topics Integration of topics into a coherent whole

Book Synopsis Measuring Roots by : Stefano Mancuso
Download or read book Measuring Roots written by Stefano Mancuso and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-26 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roots represent half of the plant body – and arguably the more interesting half. Despite its obvious importance for the whole plant, until recently our knowledge of the root apparatus was very limited, mostly due to the inadequacy of the techniques available. Recent advances in the visualization and measurement of roots have resulted in significant progress in our understanding of root architecture, growth and behaviour. In this book international experts highlight the most advanced techniques, both lab and field methods, and discuss them in detail. Measuring Roots combines academic and practical aspects of this topic, making it a universal handbook for all researchers and others interested in root-measuring methods.
