Book excerpt: Undated manuscript notes on shells by American entomologist and conchologist Thomas Say (1787-1834). The first set of descriptions is enclosed in a wrapper with an editor's note referencing an unidentified publication, possibly of the Academy of Natural Sciences, which states that some of the descriptions were unpublished, and as it is impossible to determine "what was intentionally omitted" by Say, or if he planned to reserve the descriptions for inclusion in American Conchology, "it appears best to exclude them in this volume." The second set of descriptions is enclosed in a wrapper signed by malachologist W.G. Binney (1833-1909; Harvard AB 1854), which notes, "Many of these were not published by Say." Descriptions included are of species of Helix, Paludina (now called Viviparus), and Turbo.
