Book Synopsis I Was a Really Good Mom Before I Had Kids by : Trisha Ashworth
Download or read book I Was a Really Good Mom Before I Had Kids written by Trisha Ashworth and published by Chronicle Books. This book was released on 2010-07-01 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I don't know how she does it! is an oft-heard refrain about mothers today. Funnily enough, most moms agree they have no idea how they get it done, or whether they even want the job. Trisha Ashworth and Amy Nobile spoke to mothers of every stripe--working, stay-at-home, part-time--and found a surprisingly similar trend in their interviews. After enthusing about her lucky life for twenty minutes, a mother would then break down and admit that her child's first word was "Shrek." As one mom put it, "Am I happy? The word that describes me best is challenged." Fresh from the front lines of modern motherhood comes a book that uncovers the guilty secrets of moms today . . . in their own words. I Was a Really Good Mom Before I Had Kids diagnoses the craziness and offers real solutions, so that mothers can step out of the madness and learn to love motherhood as much as they love their kids.

Book Synopsis And Now We Have Everything by : Meaghan O'Connell
Download or read book And Now We Have Everything written by Meaghan O'Connell and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2018-04-10 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A raw, funny, and fiercely honest account of becoming a mother before feeling like a grown up. When Meaghan O'Connell got accidentally pregnant in her twenties and decided to keep the baby, she realized that the book she needed -- a brutally honest, agenda-free reckoning with the emotional and existential impact of motherhood -- didn't exist. So she decided to write it herself. And Now We Have Everything is O'Connell's exploration of the cataclysmic, impossible-to-prepare-for experience of becoming a mother. With her dark humor and hair-trigger B.S. detector, O'Connell addresses the pervasive imposter syndrome that comes with unplanned pregnancy, the fantasies of a "natural" birth experience that erode maternal self-esteem, post-partum body and sex issues, and the fascinating strangeness of stepping into a new, not-yet-comfortable identity. Channeling fears and anxieties that are still taboo and often unspoken, And Now We Have Everything is an unflinchingly frank, funny, and visceral motherhood story for our times, about having a baby and staying, for better or worse, exactly yourself. Smart, funny, and true in all the best ways, this book made me ache with recognition." -- Cheryl Strayed

Download or read book Good-Enough Mother written by René Syler and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2007-03-27 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an ideal world, mothers would have time to hand-sew their kids' costumes for the school play, prepare all-organic meals, and volunteer in the classroom at the drop of a hat. In reality, most moms have to settle for plopping their little ones in front of SpongeBob so that they can prepare yet another chicken nugget-based dinner, guiltily convinced they're falling down on the job. In Good-Enough Mother, René Syler pulls back the curtain to reveal the truth about modern mothering and reassure time-stressed moms that even if their children are strangers to made-from-scratch cookies, they can emerge as happy, well-adjusted, fully functioning members of society. Mother to two great kids of her own, Syler explains how she learned to chuck perfection for practicality -- in short, how she became a Good-Enough Mother. She shows other women seeking to balance family, work, and some semblance of a personal life how to happily join the ranks of Good-Enough Mothers, who occasionally serve breakfast for dinner yet give their children plenty of what really matters -- love, time, and support. Each essay provides welcome empathy and sage advice on navigating life's different obstacles, whether it's dealing with annoying Supermoms, bluffing through a third grader's math homework, or coping with the words that strike terror into every parent's heart ("Your son's teacher on line one"). Offering real wisdom tempered with humor and warmth, Good-Enough Mother will have every modern mom laughing in relief and recognition.
Book Synopsis Daydreams of Angels by : Heather O'Neill
Download or read book Daydreams of Angels written by Heather O'Neill and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2015-10-06 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inventive, outlandish, and tender fairy tales from a bestselling author The fantastic has always been at the edges of Heather O'Neill's work. In her bestselling novels Lullabies for Little Criminals and The Girl Who Was Saturday Night, she transformed the shabbiest streets of Montreal with her beautiful, freewheeling metaphors. She described the smallest of things—a stray cat or a second-hand coat—with an intensity that made them otherworldly. In Daydreams of Angels, O'Neill's first collection of short stories, she gives free reign to her imaginative gifts. In "The Ugly Ducklings," generations of Nureyev clones live out their lives in a grand Soviet experiment. In "Dear Piglet," a teenaged cult follower writes a letter to explain the motivation behind her crime. And in another tale, a grandmother reveals where babies come from: the beach, where young mothers-to-be hunt for infants in the surf. Each of these beguiling stories twists the beloved narratives of childhood—fairy tales, storybooks, Bible stories—to uncover the deepest truths of family life.
Book Synopsis From Burma with Love by : Stephen W. Reiss
Download or read book From Burma with Love written by Stephen W. Reiss and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-11-14 with total page 667 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Irv and Mary Reiss (aka Dad and Mom) wrote this book as two letters per day for fifteen months from late 1943 through March 1945. Friends and relatives added more letters to bring the total to nearly 1,000. Virtually all of their letters ended with "I love you very very much" and "I miss you very very much." It's easy to empathize with their frustrations and anxieties about being separated and worried, especially with the birth and nurturing of their first child Stephen (aka me) in June 1944. This book title of From Burma With Love is an understatement. Irv Reiss served in the US Army from June 27, 1941 until September 17, 1945 for a total of 4 years, 2 months, and 20 days. Foreign service in India and Burma (Myanmar) was 1 year, 1 month, and 23 days. The foreign service in Burma was very intense and is the heart of this book -- hence the name, From Burma With Love. Irv was a labor officer along the Ledo Road from August 28, 1944 until December 11, 1944. His job was to hire and feed and pay several thousand native laborers (and a few elephants) to help build that road from Ledo, India to Mongyu, Burma. Read his letter of October 7, 1944.

Book Synopsis Holy Moments by : Martha Dalton Ward
Download or read book Holy Moments written by Martha Dalton Ward and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2018-07-06 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Momentslife is a sequence of them. In the joyous times, the spectacular instances seem to hurry by too quickly. In the routine of everyday life, ordinary moments slip by often unnoticed. During anxious times, it is as though every minute creeps by at an agonizingly slow pace. But as Rev. Martha Ward illustrates, God is present at all times, and if we open ourselves to that reality, every moment is holy. In Holy Moments: When Life and Faith Intersect, Rev. Ward links her own personal stories and those of her family with key scriptures to illustrate the variety of ways our life events become holy moments. Her hope is that readers will use her reflections as a springboard to consider how God is present in the moments of their lives.
Book Synopsis The Holy Book of El Shaddai by : Efren Gamboa
Download or read book The Holy Book of El Shaddai written by Efren Gamboa and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-04-08 with total page 1176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hebrew name of God in the holy writings is El Shaddai. El means God Creator and Shaddai means Almighty. El Shaddai is the name of God. Although we read other names given to God in the Old Testament, none of those names are the true name of God. Names such as Lord, Yahweh, and Jehovah were never spoken or pronounced in Israel in the entire Old Testament as their god. Before the Kingdom of Judah fell, El Shaddai warns the Judeans that their false prophets have changed his name with Baal, which is the same name as Lord. And it shall be at that day, says El Shaddai, that you shall call Me Ishi (my beloved) and shall call Me no more Baali (my lord). For I will take away the names of the Baalim (lords) gods out of their mouth and they shall no more be mentioned by their name.
