All clinical techniques are profusely illustrated step by step. The book is divided into four parts, the first of which explains how tooth whitening with peroxides works and examines the overall safety of peroxides and potential complications. The findings of clinical trials with peroxide-based materials for clinical practice are then examined, with discussion of a wide range of issues in at-home whitening and in-office whitening. The third part focuses on the techniques of enamel microabrasion and resin infiltration, which entail removal of a microscopic layer of enamel and may be used to improve tooth color either alone or in combination with peroxides. The concluding part includes a variety of informative clinical cases using combined bleaching and restorative techniques for discolored teeth. Tooth Whitening — An Evidence-Based Perspective will be of interest for dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and others with an interest in the subject

This book was released on 2005-07-02 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human beings are active agents who can think. To understand how thought serves action requires understanding how people conceive of the relation between cause and effect, between action and outcome. In cognitive terms, how do people construct and reason with the causal models we use to represent our world? A revolution is occurring in how statisticians, philosophers, and computer scientists answer this question. Those fields have ushered in new insights about causal models by thinking about how to represent causal structure mathematically, in a framework that uses graphs and probability theory to develop what are called causal Bayesian networks. The framework starts with the idea that the purpose of causal structure is to understand and predict the effects of intervention. How does intervening on one thing affect other things? This is not a question merely about probability (or logic), but about action. The framework offers a new understanding of mind: Thought is about the effects of intervention and cognition is thus intimately tied to actions that take place either in the actual physical world or in imagination, in counterfactual worlds. The book offers a conceptual introduction to the key mathematical ideas, presenting them in a non-technical way, focusing on the intuitions rather than the theorems. It tries to show why the ideas are important to understanding how people explain things and why thinking not only about the world as it is but the world as it could be is so central to human action. The book reviews the role of causality, causal models, and intervention in the basic human cognitive functions: decision making, reasoning, judgment, categorization, inductive inference, language, and learning. In short, the book offers a discussion about how people think, talk, learn, and explain things in causal terms, in terms of action and manipulation.

Book excerpt: Dentist offers safe and healthy alternative remedies for teeth whitening in new bookThe Teeth Whitening Cure by Lester Sawicki, DDS is designed to be an inventive book that offers readers a safe, simple way to brighten smiles and boost health AUSTIN, Texas The Teeth Whitening Cure: A Holistic Guide to Bright Smiles and Better Health in a Toxic World by Lester Sawicki, DDS exposes potentially toxic effects of teeth bleaching gels.Teeth whitening gels may generate a brighter, whiter smile, but according to Sawicki in The Teeth Whitening Cure, these so-called magic bullets are filled with potentially toxic chemicals that could harm health and teeth. "There is no safe way to whiten teeth with these kinds of products," says Sawicki. "They can cause extreme tooth sensitively and mouth sores." He feels that health care professionals, dentists and physicians should first and foremost look at the health benefits teeth whitening promotes and secondarily consider the cosmetic enhancement to the person's smile. "The two should always go hand-in-hand. If there is potential harm, then we should discover and prescribe preventive measures with the same importance and intensity as the American Dental Association's battle against tooth decay with fluoride," says Sawicki. The author believes these products can even overly whiten teeth, leaving the user with a "ghost" smile. Sawicki proposes what he believes to be safer, simpler and more effective alternatives to the teeth whitening products on the market, as all ingredients can be found and made in most kitchens. The Teeth Whitening Cure reveals how to use hydrogen peroxide, vitamins, minerals, herbs and exercise to detox the body, create a whiter smile, improve health and fitness, and boost energy levels. With over 10,000 hours of research, The Teeth Whitening Cure gives readers information which he thinks they need to know for a more natural looking smile and an improvement in health and vitality. The Teeth Whitening Cure: A Holistic Guide to Bright Smiles and Better Health in a Toxic World is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels.

The first part of the book addresses the idea of everyday life as considered by distinguished thinkers who have written books about everyday life, such as Sigmund Freud, Fernand Braudel, Henri Lefebvre, Michel de Certeau, and others. The second part of the book uses theories dealt with in the first part of the book to explore objects—such as suitcases, alarm clocks, milk, pacifiers, pressure cookers, smart speakers, and super-glue—and their part in the various rituals of everyday life in America, revealing their hidden meanings.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: STOP Trying To Smile With Your Mouth Closed! Learn The TRUTH About Getting A Whiter, Brighter Smile! Those Yellow Teeth Don't Need To Be Part Of Your "Look" I want you to consider a few facts. FACT: People make first impressions based on what they see. FACT: Those first impressions matter. We might like to live in a world where people don't judge books by their covers. It's a nice idea. It's also unrealistic. And that's why I don't want you to think you're being vain or shallow when you question the quality of your smile. It does make a difference. A warm, uninhibited smiling is inviting, it's likeable, it communicates. It's important. And if you're like millions of people, you are reluctant to let loose with a big grin. You aren't happy with your yellow or brown teeth. You worry about how people will interpret your less-than-bright smile. That's not vanity--that's common sense. So, unless you're capable of changing what may be part of our hardwired human nature--that tendency to generate impressions based on what we see--you have one choice. Find a way to whiten your teeth. You're not alone. The teeth whitening industry is a multi-million dollar business. People just like you are in hot pursuit of a brighter, whiter smile. Even if they haven't seen the surveys, studies and reports that verify the importance of a good smile, they can sense it. They know they want whiter teeth and it's leading them to try everything from whitening strips to toothpastes to mouthguards filled with hydrogen peroxide-based chemical solutions. They're visiting the dentist and some are even sitting down at shopping mall kiosks in hopes putting better smiles on their faces. Some of them are now grinning ear to ear. Others are wishing they could get their money back. What's the best way to get the job done? How can you go from yellow to white? What will it take for you to stop trying to smile with your lips pursed over your teeth? How can you go from a self-conscious smirk to an uninhibited smile? It depends. I know that's not the answer you wanted. You wanted me to tell you that using Product X would completely transform your appearance overnight for less than the price of a new toothbrush. That isn't how it works. Your teeth are in your mouth. They're part of you. And you are a unique individual. What works for you might not work for me. Your neighbor may look better after a few weeks of brushing with a whitening toothpaste. That same product may not make a bit of difference in your mouth. If there's no single guaranteed teeth whitening solution, what should you do? What do you need to know? You need to know a few things: What are the different causes of tooth discoloration? Which products address those particular causes? What are the limitations of different teeth whitening strategies? What are the risks to different approaches? What can you realistically expect from teeth whitening? Why do some products work better than other for some people? When you have the answers to those questions, you can find the right path to YOUR whiter, brighter, brilliant smile. This book is a guide to the world of teeth whitening. It's a new book that will answer all of those questions and many others. It covers everything from the basic structure of your teeth and why they may be discolored to popular natural techniques for cleaner, whiter teeth. Read as Jessika Perkkins gives you the answer to all this and much more.

Book excerpt: Readers will enjoy Teresa Yang's "practical approach to smile care" (Booklist) that will make "will make readers’ next trip to the dentist a little less intimidating" (Publishers Weekly). Provides practical information and advice on topics related to dental and overall health. Have you ever visited a new dentist and been told you need a “smile makeover,” with the implication that if your teeth were whiter and straighter, you would be more successful and happier? Or maybe you’ve never had a cavity – and now, suddenly, you have a half dozen that require immediate attention. Perhaps you’ve been told you need a root canal or a crown or implant. What are all these things? Which procedure is best for your situation? Did you leave those offices thinking, “It’s not really bothering me. Do I need to get all this work done?” Nothing But the Tooth is a ready guide to dental health that answers all your questions and the ones you didn’t even know to ask. It begins with the most important question: how to choose a competent and ethical dentist – and ends with a discussion about technological advances in the dental field. Topics such as the cost of dental treatment, pediatric and geriatric dental needs, and the link between sleep apnea and your mouth are covered. Most importantly, it guides readers to a better understanding of the link between dental and overall health.
