Download or read book TEQC83 written by T. Feest and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-11 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TEQC83 covers the proceedings of the International Conference on the Testing, Evaluation, and Quality Control of composite materials. The 31 papers included in the book cover topics within the general areas of mechanical testing, materials characterization, non-destructive testing, quality assurance and structural analysis, and environmental testing. Experimental techniques for measuring fiber/matrix interfacial bond shear strength; prediction of notch-tip energy absorption in composite laminates; an X-ray radiography study of delamination growth in notched carbon/epoxy laminates; and quality assurance in a production environment are examples of papers included in the book. The book also presents topics, such as influence of processing on the water aging of unsaturated polyester-based composites; the determination of interlaminar fracture toughness and fracture mode dependence of composites using the edge delamination test; and pattern recognition in ultrasonic testing of fiber reinforced plastics. Design engineers will find this book helpful.
Book Synopsis Advanced Technology for Design and Fabrication of Composite Materials and Structures by : George C. Sih

This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last decade has seen a significant growth in the processing and fabrication of advanced composite materials. This volume contains the up-to-date contributions of those with working experience in the automotive, marine, aerospace and construction field. Starting with modern technologies concerned with assessing the change in material microstructure in terms of the processing parameters, methodologies are offered to account for tradeoffs between the fundamental variables such as temperature and pressure that control the product quality. The book contains new ideas and data, not available in the open literature.

Book Synopsis Growth Stresses and Strains in Trees by : Robert R. Archer
Download or read book Growth Stresses and Strains in Trees written by Robert R. Archer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although over 40 years have passed since Jacobs (1945) convincingly established the basic radial pattern of residual growth stress in growing trees, yet this phenomenon is still not widely appreciated in wood science and technology circles. This is in spite of the fact that the presence of these stresses of sizeable magnitudes has long been recognized as a primary cause of shakes and splits in logs as well as the warping of lumber sawn in the green condition. The presentation of the subject of growth stresses in trees presents some special problems due to the wide range of specialists who potentially might have an interest in the subject. For example, tree physiologists interested in questions such as the relation of mechanical stress to stem taper and the role of reaction wood and gravity forces in determining tree crown form encounter growth stress models. Silvi culturists interested in the relation ofthinning practices to wood quality find that wood properties are correlated with growth stress levels which are in turn significantly changed by cutting practices. Wood techno logists interested in the relation of residual growth stress gradients in green logs to the dimensional quality of sawn and seasoned lumber are forced to take a more quantitative approach to the effect of growth stresses than might have been the case in the past.
Book Synopsis Wave Propagation in Structures by : James F. Doyle
Download or read book Wave Propagation in Structures written by James F. Doyle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces spectral analysis as a means of investigating wave propagation and transient oscillations in structures. After developing the foundations of spectral analysis and the fast Fourier transform algorithm, the book provides a thorough treatment of waves in rods, beams, and plates, and introduces a novel matrix method for analysing complex structures as a collection of waveguides. The presentation includes an introduction to higher-order structural theories, the results of many experimental studies, practical applications, and source-code listings for many programs. An extensive bibliography provides an entry to the research literature. Intended as a textbook for graduate students of aerospace or mechanical engineering, the book will also be of interest to practising engineers in these and related disciplines.
