Book Synopsis Nonlinear Theory of Electroelastic and Magnetoelastic Interactions by : Luis Dorfmann
Download or read book Nonlinear Theory of Electroelastic and Magnetoelastic Interactions written by Luis Dorfmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-02-06 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a unified theory on nonlinear electro-magnetomechanical interactions of soft materials capable of large elastic deformations. The authors include an overview of the basic principles of the classic theory of electromagnetism from the fundamental notions of point charges and magnetic dipoles through to distributions of charge and current in a non-deformable continuum, time-dependent electromagnetic fields and Maxwell’s equations. They summarize relevant theories of continuum mechanics, required to account for the deformability of material and present a constitutive framework for the nonlinear magneto-and electroelastic interactions in a highly deformable material. The equations contained in the book formulate and solve a variety of representative boundary-value problems for both nonlinear magnetoelasticity and electroelasticity.
Book Synopsis Theory of Electroelasticity by : Zhen-Bang Kuang
Download or read book Theory of Electroelasticity written by Zhen-Bang Kuang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-08-04 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theory of Electroelasticity analyzes the stress, strain, electric field and electric displacement in electroelastic structures such as sensors, actuators and other smart materials and structures. This book also describes new theories such as the physical variational principle and the inertial entropy theory. It differs from the traditional method by using the physical variational principle to derive the governing equations of the piezoelectric material, whereas the Maxwell stress is obtained automatically. By using the inertial entropy theory, the temperature wave equation is obtained very easily. The book is intended for scientists, researchers and engineers in the areas of mechanics, physics, smart material and control engineering as well as mechanical, aeronautical and civil engineering, etc. Zhen-Bang Kuang is a professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Book excerpt: "We owe Clerk Maxwell the precise formulation of the space-time laws of electromagnetic fields. Imagine his own feelings when the partial differential equations he formulated spread in the form of polarized waves with the speed of light! This change in the understanding of the structure of reality is the most profound and fruitful that has come to physics since Newton."--Albert Einstein
Book Synopsis Theory Of Electromagnetoelasticity by : Jiashi Yang
Download or read book Theory Of Electromagnetoelasticity written by Jiashi Yang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-12-05 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theory of Electromagnetoelasticity presents a systematic and unique treatment of elastic, electric and magnetic interactions in solids including various thermal and dissipative effects such as viscoelasticity and electrical conduction. In this book, a general and nonlinear continuum theory is constructed. The fundamental building blocks of the theory — the electromagnetic body force, couple and power — are calculated from a multi-continuum model consisting of a lattice continuum for elastic deformation, a bound charge continuum for electric polarization, a circulating current continuum for magnetization, and a free charge fluid for electrical conduction. The multi-continuum model is simpler than the common charged particle model and reveals the underlying physics from a unique angle. The complete set of Maxwell's equations for the electromagnetic fields is included without the widely used quasistatic approximations of the electric and/or magnetic fields. The theory established can be used to describe different kinds of interactions between acoustic and optical fields or waves. Some linear problems are analyzed as examples to show some of the simplest elastic and electromagnetic couplings.
Book Synopsis Integral Equation Methods for Electromagnetic and Elastic Waves by : Weng Cho Chew
Download or read book Integral Equation Methods for Electromagnetic and Elastic Waves written by Weng Cho Chew and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2009 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integral Equation Methods for Electromagnetic and Elastic Waves is an outgrowth of several years of work. There have been no recent books on integral equation methods. There are books written on integral equations, but either they have been around for a while, or they were written by mathematicians. Much of the knowledge in integral equation methods still resides in journal papers. With this book, important relevant knowledge for integral equations are consolidated in one place and researchers need only read the pertinent chapters in this book to gain important knowledge needed for integral equation research. Also, learning the fundamentals of linear elastic wave theory does not require a quantum leap for electromagnetic practitioners. Integral equation methods have been around for several decades, and their introduction to electromagnetics has been due to the seminal works of Richmond and Harrington in the 1960s. There was a surge in the interest in this topic in the 1980s (notably the work of Wilton and his coworkers) due to increased computing power. The interest in this area was on the wane when it was demonstrated that differential equation methods, with their sparse matrices, can solve many problems more efficiently than integral equation methods. Recently, due to the advent of fast algorithms, there has been a revival in integral equation methods in electromagnetics. Much of our work in recent years has been in fast algorithms for integral equations, which prompted our interest in integral equation methods. While previously, only tens of thousands of unknowns could be solved by integral equation methods, now, tens of millions of unknowns can be solved with fast algorithms. This has prompted new enthusiasm in integral equation methods. Book Synopsis Constitutive Equations of Nonlinear Electromagnetic-Elastic Crystals by : E. Kiral

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuum physics is concemed with the predictions of deformations, stress, temperature, and electromagnetic fields in deformable and fluent bodies. To that extent, mathematical formulation requires the establishment of basic balance laws and constitutive equations. Balance laws are the union of those of continuum thermomechanics and MaxweIl's equations, as coIlected in Chapter 1. To dose the theory it is necessary to formulate equations for the material response to extemal stimuli. These equations bring into play the material properties of the media under consideration. In their simplest forms these are the constitutive laws, such as Hooke's law of dassical elasticity, Stokes' law of viscosity of viscous fluids, Fourier's law of heat conduction, Ohm's law of electric conduction, etc. For large deformations and fields in material media, the constitutive laws become very complicated, in vol ving all physical effects and material symmetry. The present work is concemed with the material symmetry regulations arising from the crystaIlographic symmetry of magnetic crystals. While there exist some works on the thirty-two conventional crystal dasses, exduding the linear case, there exists no study on the nonlinear constitutive equations for the ninty magnetic crystal dasses. Yet the interaction of strong electromagnetic fields with deformable solids cannot be explained without the material sym metry regulations relevant to magnetic crystals. In this monograph, we present a thorough discussion of magnetic symmetry by means of group theory. We consider onlyone scalar function which depends on one symmetric second-order tensor (e. g."

Book Synopsis Nonlocal Continuum Field Theories by : A. Cemal Eringen
Download or read book Nonlocal Continuum Field Theories written by A. Cemal Eringen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-06-14 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlocal continuum field theories are concerned with material bodies whose behavior at any interior point depends on the state of all other points in the body -- rather than only on an effective field resulting from these points -- in addition to its own state and the state of some calculable external field. Nonlocal field theory extends classical field theory by describing the responses of points within the medium by functionals rather than functions (the "constitutive relations" of classical field theory). Such considerations are already well known in solid-state physics, where the nonlocal interactions between the atoms are prevalent in determining the properties of the material. The tools developed for crystalline materials, however, do not lend themselves to analyzing amorphous materials, or materials in which imperfections are a major part of the structure. Nonlocal continuum theories, by contrast, can describe these materials faithfully at scales down to the lattice parameter. This book presents a unified approach to field theories for elastic solids, viscous fluids, and heat-conducting electromagnetic solids and fluids that include nonlocal effects in both space and time (memory effects). The solutions to the field equations agree remarkably well with atomic theories and experimental observations.
