Download or read book Theory of Groups of Finite Order (Classic Reprint) written by W. Burnside and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Theory of Groups of Finite Order The present treatise is intended to introduce to the reader the main outlines of the theory of groups of finite order apart from any applications. The subject is one which has hitherto attracted but little attention in this country; it will afford me much satisfaction if, by means of this book, I shall succeed in arousing interest among English mathematicians in a branch of pure mathematics which becomes the more fascinating the' more it is studied. Book Synopsis Character Theory of Finite Groups by : I. Martin Isaacs
Download or read book Character Theory of Finite Groups written by I. Martin Isaacs and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2006-11-21 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Character theory is a powerful tool for understanding finite groups. In particular, the theory has been a key ingredient in the classification of finite simple groups. Characters are also of interest in their own right, and their properties are closely related to properties of the structure of the underlying group. The book begins by developing the module theory of complex group algebras. After the module-theoretic foundations are laid in the first chapter, the focus is primarily on characters. This enhances the accessibility of the material for students, which was a major consideration in the writing. Also with students in mind, a large number of problems are included, many of them quite challenging. In addition to the development of the basic theory (using a cleaner notation than previously), a number of more specialized topics are covered with accessible presentations. These include projective representations, the basics of the Schur index, irreducible character degrees and group structure, complex linear groups, exceptional characters, and a fairly extensive introduction to blocks and Brauer characters. This is a corrected reprint of the original 1976 version, later reprinted by Dover. Since 1976 it has become the standard reference for character theory, appearing in the bibliography of almost every research paper in the subject. It is largely self-contained, requiring of the reader only the most basic facts of linear algebra, group theory, Galois theory and ring and module theory.

This book was released on 2006-07-10 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the latest achievements of the Theory of Classes of Finite Groups. It introduces some unpublished and fundamental advances in this Theory and provides a new insight into some classic facts in this area. By gathering the research of many authors scattered in hundreds of papers the book contributes to the understanding of the structure of finite groups by adapting and extending the successful techniques of the Theory of Finite Soluble Groups.

Download or read book An Introduction to the Theory of Groups of Finite Order (Classic Reprint) written by Harold Hilton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-27 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Introduction to the Theory of Groups of Finite Order The nomenclature of the subject is by no means settled. I have tried to select definitions which have the advantage of being either self-explanatory (e. G. Greatest common subgroup or concise normal but the task was not at all easy. I have treated the pure group-theory with greater thoroughness than the applications. The aim of chapters H, hi, IV, VI, VII, VIII is to stimulate interest, rather than to give a complete or rigid investigation of the subjects there dealt with. On a first reading the student may omit, if he chooses, chapters hi, IV, VII, VIII, XIV, XV, and the last section of Chapter V. Book Synopsis Representations and Invariants of the Classical Groups by : Roe Goodman
Download or read book Representations and Invariants of the Classical Groups written by Roe Goodman and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-01-13 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than half a century has passed since Weyl's 'The Classical Groups' gave a unified picture of invariant theory. This book presents an updated version of this theory together with many of the important recent developments. As a text for those new to the area, this book provides an introduction to the structure and finite-dimensional representation theory of the complex classical groups that requires only an abstract algebra course as a prerequisite. The more advanced reader will find an introduction to the structure and representations of complex reductive algebraic groups and their compact real forms. This book will also serve as a reference for the main results on tensor and polynomial invariants and the finite-dimensional representation theory of the classical groups. It will appeal to researchers in mathematics, statistics, physics and chemistry whose work involves symmetry groups, representation theory, invariant theory and algebraic group theory.
