Readers will gain insights and guidelines into the different ways that Morgan’s metaphors and metaphorical thinking can be used to better understand organizational life, as well as how to study and develop organizations.
Book Synopsis Images de l'organisation by : Gareth Morgan
Download or read book Images de l'organisation written by Gareth Morgan and published by Presses Université Laval. This book was released on 1999 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: " Imaginisation "...

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Metaphor in Organization Studies written by and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024-02-15 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metaphors for organization and management have been a subject of strong interest in the area of organizational studies since the 1980s. Metaphors enhance the understanding of organizations and provide a mechanism for critiquing current practices, increasing effectiveness, and improving communication. The Oxford Handbook of Metaphor in Organization Studies provides a comprehensive reference for researchers, educators, and managers. The book comprises twenty-nine chapters, which are authored by over forty contributors, many of whom have played major roles in the development of the field over the years. The theoretical underpinnings of organizational metaphors are explored. An array of metaphorical contexts for understanding management and organizations is presented. The various uses of metaphor as a tool in research, education, and management are addressed, as are the limitations of metaphors. Finally, future research directions related to metaphors in organizational studies and management are proposed.

Book Synopsis The Congo Basin by : Michel Innocent PEYA
Download or read book The Congo Basin written by Michel Innocent PEYA and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2022-01-14 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is dedicated to the Congo Basin. It has the particularity of imagining the portrait of a universe devoid of the world's second largest lung after the Amazon, made up of forests, water, peat bogs, large carbon reserves and a rich biodiversity. However, these treasures are threatened by, on the one hand, the mer cantile interests of mafia networks eager to enrich themselves and, on the other hand, by the mismanagement of institutions and powers, which cause areas of uncertainty that are beyond the control of the indigenous endogenous powers. It is by observing these abuses that Michel Innocent Peya sounds the alarm on the risk of global climate genocide if the Congo Basin were to degrade or disappear.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the increased salience of metaphor in organization theory, there is still very little conceptual machinery for capturing and explaining how metaphor creates and/or reorders knowledge within organization theory. Moreover, prior work on metaphor has insufficiently accounted for the context of interpreting a metaphor. Many metaphors in organization theory, including the organizational identity metaphor, have often been treated in singular and monolithic terms; seen to offer a similar or largely synonymous interpretation to theorists and researchers working along the entire spectrum of disciplines (e.g. organizational behaviour, organizational psychology) in organization theory. We argue in this paper that contextual variation however exists in the interpretation of metaphors in organization theory. This argument is developed by proposing and elaborating on a so-called image-schematic model of metaphor, which suggests that the image-schemata (abstract imaginative structures) that are triggered by the metaphorical comparison of concepts may vary among individuals. Accordingly, once different schemata are triggered the completion and interpretation of a metaphor may equally vary among different individuals or, indeed, research communities. These points associated with the image-schematic model of metaphor are illustrated with a case study of the organizational identity metaphor. The case study shows that this particular metaphor has spiralled out into different research communities and has been comprehended in very different ways as different communities work from very different conceptions, or image-schemata, of organization and identity, and use different theoretical frameworks and constructs as a result. The implications of the image-schematic view of metaphor for knowledge development and theoretical progress in organization theory are discussed.
