Book excerpt: The butler did it, or maybe he didn't. It's summer, and fourteen-year-old Mary Ann Markham is bored. Then she remembers that her wealthy grandfather just happens to own a rather rundown lake a short distance down the hill from his huge Victorian mansion. She enlists her live-in writing coach, Art Parker, and her friend, Jennifer Martin, to help restore the lake and its surroundings to a thing of beauty, using Grandfather's money, of course. Things get off to a good start--that is until they discover the decomposing body of a teenage girl in the woods. Then there's the butler who likes to stargaze, the local youth hostel that just happens to catch fire while Mary Ann and Art are attending a sing-along there, the two bodies discovered in the ashes of the hostel, and the local sheriff who thinks everybody's guilty of something. While fishing from a boat on the lake Jennifer hooks something big--you guessed it--the nude body of another teenage girl. Suspects abound, but especially the new butler, gardener, and housemaid. Time passes. The girls throw a Halloween party at the mansion for their classmates and then disappear. Now Art, with little help from the local sheriff's department, must try to find them and their abductor before they join the growing list of corpses.

Book Synopsis An Odyssey of Murder by : Frank Binns
Download or read book An Odyssey of Murder written by Frank Binns and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2003-05-07 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Odyssey of Murder is both brutal and shocking, and is sure to stun the reader in its gravest moments as it enters into the mind of a serial killer on the loose on a walking holiday in Britain. The magnificent scenery and the splendour of classical music merge in the psychopathic world of the protagonist. The author's descriptions of murder and the images of corpses are not overtly graphic, yet have a profound and lasting effect. The reader is instantly plunged into the story at the outset and finds himself on the Yorkshire moors, watching open-mouthed as the first murder takes place. The concluding stages, as the net tightens around the suspect, are similarly most unexpected and the narrative draws to a highly satisfactory conclusion. The psychological realism recalls the compulsive power of Truman Capote's In Cold Blood.

Book excerpt: Art and Marsha Parker finally have a chance to get away for a week from Marsha's medical clinic in the small town of Bearford to visit a plush resort for a honeymoon, a gift from their wealthy benefactor, Charles Drummond. Somehow their adopted sixteen-year-old daughter, Mary Ann Markham, who is also Drummond's granddaughter, and Mary Ann's best friend, Jennifer Martin, manage to convince the old man that Art and Marsha need chaperoning, so the two girls show up at the resort at the end of the first week, ostensibly to notify Art and Marsha that they've been booked for another week but really to investigate a corpse--soon to be two--discovered at the foot of a high waterfall on the resort's property. With their usual lack of good luck, all four get involved with searching for counterfeit fifty-dollar bills. Then Art, Mary Ann, and Jennifer manage to get themselves kidnapped by three thugs while attempting some unauthorized detective work on their own. While Marsha, inspired by the waterfalls at the resort, convinces Drummond to build a trail to an overlook for a waterfall on his property, the search for the counterfeiters goes on. Art, Mary Ann, and Jennifer keep getting themselves in more and more trouble until Art and Mary Ann come up with a brainstorm that finally leads them to the head of the counterfeiting ring and almost to their own deaths.

In LEFT TO KILL, a young woman is found wandering, in a daze, on a rural road in Germany, having escaped her attacker. If she can talk, and remember, maybe she can lead authorities back to his lair—and save the other women there before it’s too late. As the sprawling international case begins to enmesh dozens of victims from many countries, authorities quickly realize there is only one way to solve this: to bring in FBI special agent Adele Sharp, triple citizen of the U.S., France and Germany. But even with Adele’s brilliant mind, this case, bringing up memories way too close to home, may be just out of her reach. Can Adele save the other woman before it’s too late? Can she save herself? In LEFT TO MURDER, a woman is found dead in Bordeaux, murdered against the backdrop of its idyllic wine country, and authorities suspect a connection to a similar murder in Italy—and an active serial killer. FBI Special Agent Adele Sharp, triple agent of the U.S., France and Germany, is called in, the only one with the international expertise—and brilliant mind—to piece it all together. Adele enters the dark canals of the killer’s mind, finding clues where others do not, and feels confident she can catch him before he kills again. Until a shocking twist throws all she thought she knew into a tailspin. In LEFT TO ENVY, in the Sistine Chapel, the first tourists of the day look up—and are horrified to find a dead body affixed by ropes to the ceiling. More victims soon appear, strung up in similarly dramatic fashion on other major attractions throughout Europe. Who is killing them? Why? Who will be next? And is FBI Special Agent Adele Sharp—triple agent of the U.S., France and Germany—brilliant enough to enter the serial killer’s mind and stop him before it’s too late? An action-packed mystery series of international intrigue and riveting suspense, the ADELE SHARP mystery series will have you turning pages late into the night. Books #7-#10 are also available!

Book Synopsis The Limbs In The Loch Murderer by : Greg Patrick
Download or read book The Limbs In The Loch Murderer written by Greg Patrick and published by Kings Road Publishing. This book was released on 2011-01-04 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In December 1999, as Scotland prepared for the biggest Hogmanay of all time, a gruesome discovery was made by a police diving team on a training exercise in Loch Lomond. One by one, limbs from a cadaver were found and brought to the surface. Days later, a severed head was washed up on a beach in western Scotland and forensically matched with the limbs. Police soon had a prime suspect for the murder - William Beggs. But how had they been able to ascertain that it was Beggs right from the start? Just eight years earlier, Beggs had met Brian McQuillan at a disco and the pair had returned to Beggs' flat. He had set upon McQuillan with a knife, slashing him severely on the body but brave McQuillan escaped with his life by leaping through a first-floor window. Beggs was jailed for six years for the attack and, once released, was kept under the watchful eye of Strathclyde police. This in-depth and fascinating book investigates Beggs from his somewhat ordinary days as a member of the Young Conservatives through to his eventual conviction and incareration for the horrific murder of Barry Wallace. It examines how he managed to create an air of respectability around himself while perpetrating the most vicious of crimes; it looks at how, following the attack on McQuillan, police became aware that they had a serial killer in the making on their hands and how, from behind bars, Beggs still manages to make headlines.
