Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 199th Light Infantry Brigade (Redcatchers) served with distinction, honor and valor in the Republic of Vietnam from November 28th, 1966 to October 15th, 1970. During the American involvement in Vietnam, the 199th LIB proved time and time again that it was one of the finest and most professional infantry units to have ever served in the United States Army. Organized specifically for Vietnam service, the 199th became the first major American unit to undergo the process of Vietnamization with ARVN forces in 1967, the first American brigade in U.S. military history to have an African-American as its commanding officer, the first unit in Vietnam to have a Chaplain awarded the Medal of Honor and the sole unit in Vietnam to earn the dubious distinction as having lost the only general officer killed in action during ground combat. Often overshadowed by the larger, more "glamorous" units and divisions that fought in Southeast Asia, less than 25,000 men ever served in the ranks of the 199th LIB. 755 young heroes from the Brigade were killed in action during the Vietnam War. Their memory and sacrifice will never be forgotten...

Download or read book Deadly Diamonds written by John WIlson and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2014-07-28 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Badger was sitting at his desk in his office when the mail arrived. A letter in a plain envelope with three foreign stamps across the top and the word ‘CONFIDENTIAL’ at the bottom was hidden within a short stack of letters and memoranda. Badger scanned the letter quickly, a frown darkening his features. “Jesus Christ,” he exclaimed audibly to his empty room. “I don’t believe it.” Deadly Diamonds carries forward the adventures (and misadventures) of Massoud Anssari, formerly dean and now professor at a midwestern law school that attracts trouble like a magnet attracts iron filings. The registrar dies under mysterious circumstances; a stupendously rich foreign benefactor withdraws his promise to the school of several million dollars; and Ansari, attempting to rectify the problem, is drawn into major skullduggery at a remote diamond mine in a semi-arid region of West Africa. One heinous crime tops another. Finally, with the aid of revelations from Ansari, the enormously obese wife of the benefactor helps – in her own uniquely bumbling way – to reveal the culprit and the secretive theft of diamonds. Ansari returns to America, discovers who (or what) killed the registrar, and a sense of peace – albeit temporary – returns to the law school... A well-crafted, descriptively written and fast-paced story of theft, intrigue and murder, interwoven throughout with humour, Deadly Diamonds will appeal to fans of John Wilson’s former books – Badger, Boomer and Bathroom Bob and Death by Duck – and Richard Wilson’s former books – American Redemption and The Hardtack Diary – and is a must-read for fans of The Pink Panther, crime and suspense fiction.

Book Synopsis Derrida and Textual Animality by : Rodolfo Piskorski
Download or read book Derrida and Textual Animality written by Rodolfo Piskorski and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-24 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Derrida and Textual Animality: For a Zoogrammatology of Literature analyses what has come to be known, in the Humanities, as ‘the question of the animal’, in relation to literary texts. Rodolfo Piskorski intervenes in the current debate regarding the non-human and its representation in literature, resisting popular materialist methodological approaches in the field by revisiting and revitalising the post-structuralist thought of Derrida and the ‘linguistic turn’. The book focuses on Derrida’s early work in order to frame deconstructive approaches to literature as necessary for a theory and practice of literary criticism that addresses the question of the animal, arguing that texts are like animals, and animals are like texts. While Derrida’s late writings have been embraced by animal studies scholars due to its overt focus on animality, ethics, and the non-human, Piskorski demonstrates the additional value of these early Derridean texts for the field of literary animal studies by proposing detailed zoogrammatological readings of texts by Freud, Clarice Lispector, Ted Hughes, and Darren Aronofsky, while in dialogue with thinkers such as Butler, Kristeva, Genette, Deleuze and Guattari, and Attridge.
