It explores new Hong Kong imaginaries with regard to the complex relationship between the local, the national and the global. The major theoretical thrust of the book is to address the reconfiguration of Hong Kong’s culture and society in an age of global modernity from the standpoints of different disciplines, exploring the possibilities of approaching Hong Kong as a method. Through critical inquiries into different fields related to Hong Kong’s culture and society, including gender, resistance and minorities, various perspectives on the country’s culture and society can be re-assessed. New directions and guidelines related to Hong Kong are also presented, offering a unique resource for researchers and students in the fields of cultural studies, media studies, postcolonial studies, globalization and Asian studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: In pursuing the study, we followed a theological analysis of the concept of Evangelization in a marginalised world, and in this regard we base ourselves an the scriptural sources, documents of Vatican II, post-Vatican, the papal and synodal documents, and the reflections of theologians an the issue. Our study is divided into five chapters an the whole. The first chapter, which has three parts. The first part of it is an attempt to see the meaning, context and core of the commonly used expression `holistic liberation' . Here we try to see whether the real meaning of the term has been incorporated into the life and pattern of the missionary endeavour of the Church as outlined in scripture, papal, synodal, and Vatican II documents. For this purpose, in the second part, we examine whether the notions of human dignity and human person as given in Pastoral Constitution of Gaudium et Spes, are visible vantage points and the stepping stones for further post-Vatican teachings. In the concluding section, efforts are made to throw some light an the holistic liberation in the ecclesial context of India, after which we review the three dimensions of evangelization in India, i.e. inculturation, dialogue and liberation. Chapter two of our work is situated against the Indian background. A reasonable knowledge of the context in which the evangelization has to take place seems necessary. In order to situate the context properly we try to see India from its social, economic, cultural and religious dimensions. The ecclesial situation of India is considered because we believe that it is the Churches in India that are the agents of the process of holistic liberation. In the second part of this chapter we make a semantic view of `marginalised' . It is followed by an investigation an the most marginalised in Madhya Pradesh/India viz. the Dalits, the Adivasis and the Women, who are the victims of poverty, illiteracy and oppression. Marginalised in our study imply all those sections of the society in Madhya Pradesh who are kept an the fringes of the society an either one or all of the following criteria (a) Politically, (b) Economically, (c) Culturally. For a better understanding of the marginalised groups we take a specimen, the `Satnamis' in Raipur diocese and focus our attention an them, in the third part of this chapter, as they are the most depressed and oppressed people here. In the third chapter we deal with those attempts that [...]
Book Synopsis Macao - The Formation of a Global City by : C.X. George Wei
Download or read book Macao - The Formation of a Global City written by C.X. George Wei and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-07 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Macao, the former Portuguese colony in southeast China, has a long and very interesting history of cultural interaction between China and the West. Held by the Portuguese from the 1550s until its return to China in 1999, Macao was up to the emergence of Hong Kong in the later nineteenth century the principal point of entry into China for all Westerners - Dutch, British and others, as well as Portuguese. The relatively relaxed nature of Portuguese colonial rule, intermarriage, the mixing of Chinese and Western cultures, and the fact that Macao served as a safe haven for many Chinese reformers at odds with the Chinese authorities, including Sun Yat-sen, all combined to make Macao a very different and special place. This book explores how Macao was formed over the centuries. It puts forward substantial new research findings and new thinking, and covers a wide range of issues. It is a companion volume to Macao - Cultural Interaction and Literary Representations.
Download or read book Cease Fire written by Tom Sine and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 1996-12-19 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a print on demand book and is therefore non- returnable. Three abortion doctors and eight aides are gunned down and six are killed. More than 150 abortion clinics are firebombed. A church is vandalized by gay prostitutes. A pro-choice activist calls for "massive militant action" against anti-abortionists. In Cease Fire Tom Sine takes up the concerns of millions of Christians -- evangelical and mainline Protestants, Catholics, and Orthodox -- who feel uneasy with some of the excesses of the politically correct left but who recoil at the stance taken by Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and Ralph Reed and the Christian Coalition that the extreme religious right, with its quest for political power, is the only place to turn. Sine looks at the tactics and agendas of extremists on both sides and asks what society would look like if their particular visions were to win out. He then argues that the positions of the religious right and of the left are not the only available choices. The Bible offers a third choice, God's "better way" -- a biblical center represented by neither right nor left in the current debate. Cease Fire is written to enable readers to understand why America's culture wars are so adversarial, polarizing, and increasingly violent; to anticipate which side is likely to gain the upper hand in these contentious conflicts and how it is likely to shape our common future; and to offer a third way -- a radical biblical alternative to the political ideologies of the religious right and the left -- for those searching for a new place to stand in a new millennium.
