Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is the world really becoming one civilization? If so, will its religions merge? Or if Christianity has a unique authority, what are the presuppositions and content of the revelation which it embodies? And how must its institutions change in order that it may fulfill its mission to the nations? These are the questions asked, and to a surprising extent answered, by Lesslie Newbigin, one time Bishop of the Church of South India who lead the "missionary" studies sponsored by the World Council of Churches. All who are interested in the comparison of religions or in the mission of the Church, will value his presentation of vast and important themes. One of the thinkers criticized is Dr. Arnold Toynbee, who writes: "A fine book . . . I particularly admire the way in which Bishop Newbigin states the case of people with whom he disagrees." Another, Sir S. Radhakrishnan, writes: "I have read it through with great interest. It is written with deep conviction and expresses the orthodox Christian point of view."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is made up of twenty-three stories, each from a different author from across the globe. All belong to one world, united in their diversity and ethnicity. And together they have one aim: to involve and move the reader. The range of authors takes in such literary greats as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Jhumpa Lahiri, and emerging authors such as Elaine Chiew, Petina Gappah, and Henrietta Rose-Innes. The members of the collective are: Elaine Chiew (Malaysia) Molara Wood (Nigeria) Jhumpa Lahiri (United States) Martin A Ramos (Puerto Rico) Lauri Kubutsile (Botswana) Chika Unigwe (Nigeria) Ravi Mangla (United States) Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Nigeria) Skye Brannon (United States) Jude Dibia (Nigeria) Shabnam Nadiya (Bangladesh) Petina Gappah (Zimbabwe) Ivan Gabirel Reborek (Australia) Vanessa Gebbie (Britain) Emmanual Dipita Kwa (Cameroon) Henrietta Rose-Innes (South Africa) Lucinda Nelson Dhavan (India) Adetokunbo Abiola (Nigeria) Wadzanai Mhute (Zimbabwe) Konstantinos Tzikas (Greece) Ken Kamoche (Kenya) Sequoia Nagamatsu (United States) Ovo Adagha (Nigeria) From the Introduction: The concept of One World is often a multi-colored tapestry into which sundry, if not contending patterns can be woven. for those of us who worked on this project, ‘One World’ goes beyond the everyday notion of the globe as a physical geographic entity. Rather, we understand it as a universal idea, one that transcends national boundaries to comment on the most prevailing aspects of the human condition. This attempt to redefine the borders of the world we live in through the short story recognizes the many conflicting issues of race, language, economy, gender and ethnicity, which separate and limit us. We readily acknowledge, however, that regardless of our differences or the disparities in our stories, we are united by our humanity. We invite the reader on a personal journey across continents, countries, cultures and landscapes, to reflect on these beautiful, at times chaotic, renditions on the human experience. We hope the reach of this path will transcend the borders of each story, and perhaps function as an agent of change. Welcome to our world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains in great detail and exceptional clarity the issues related to the rapture of the Church, the government of the Antichrist, the great tribulation and all the apocalyptic judgments which God will pour out upon the wicked world. The rapture of the Church will bring about the global collapse of the economic, political and religious institutions of the world. At that moment of monumental crisis, humanity will quickly look for a leader willing to put the world back together, offer them peace and security. The world will host a false prince of peace called the Antichrist. He will elate the masses by telling them what they want to hear. However, he will push humanity to the deepest levels of degradation, vice, immorality, crime, war, violence, and rebellion against God. He will corrupt the social and moral order and as a result, billions of people will die. He will plunge the world into spiritual darkness and lead humanity astray. The Antichrists empire shall devour the whole earth trample it and break it in pieces (Daniel 7:23 NKJV). This will be a period characterized by widespread wars which will bring death to billions of people: For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be (Mark 13:19 NKJV). During this period, 25 and 33 per cent of the world population will die in two major wars. If these conflicts were to happen in our time, 3.56 billion people would die. However, before the Antichrist begins, God will take out of this world, all those who believe in Christ. Seven years later, the Lord Jesus will return to destroy those who destroy the earth (Rev. 11:18b) and establish His everlasting kingdom on Earth. Then, The wolf and the lamb shall feed together. The lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpents food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, says the LORD (Isaiah 65:25 NKJV).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One World of Welfare offers a systematic, comparative examination of Japan's welfare policies and a critical assessment of previous research. Gregory J. Kasza rejects the view that the Japanese welfare system is unique; he challenges the nearly universal belief that the postwar Japanese state neglected welfare to promote rapid economic growth; he rejects the claim that there is a regional welfare model in East Asia; and he uses the Japanese case to question the dominant framework for comparative welfare research. The author explores the relevance of both convergence and divergence theories for understanding the Japanese record and spotlights the importance of international influences on the timing and content of Japan's welfare policies. This book offers a fresh comparative template for research on Japanese public policy. Case studies of Japan have often exaggerated its distinctiveness. Comparative research documents points of similarity as well as difference; it unearths the foreign models that have swayed Japan's policymakers; and it reveals what others might learn from Japan's experience. Most of the welfare challenges that Japan has faced over the last century have resembled those confronting other nations, and the Japanese have often patterned their welfare policies after those of Western countries. Japan's welfare system must be understood within a broader pattern of global policy diffusion.

Book excerpt: A groundbreaking anthropological analysis of Islam as experienced by Muslims, By Noon Prayer builds a conceptual model of Islam as a whole, while travelling along a comparative path of biblical, Egyptological, ethnographic, poetic, scriptural and visual materials. Grounded in long-term observation of Arabo-Islamic culture and society, the study captures the rhythm of Islam weaving through the lives of Muslim women and men.Examples of the rhythmic nature of Islam can be seen in all aspects of Muslims' everyday lives. Muslims break their Ramadan fast upon the sun setting, and they receive Ramadan by sighting the new moon. Prayer for their dead is by noon and burial is before sunset. This is space and time in Islam - moon, sun, dawn and sunset are all part of a unique and unified rhythm, interweaving the sacred and the ordinary, nature and culture in a pattern that is characteristically Islamic.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One-World Church Rising points a need for discernment among church attendees concerning church doctrines and teachings. There are seven simultaneous developments occurring on the contemporary religious scene that will make this a must-read book and a page-turner for every informed Christian. First, careful examination of many of the Catholic Church teachings that have developed during the past 1,900 years do not square with Scripture. Second, there is the sudden increase in heretical teaching coming from the Vatican that has alienated many cardinals and bishops. Third is the widespread development of liberties theologians are taking to alter the interpretation of the Bible, to dilute its meaning, and to make it reflect what the theologian wants it to reflect. Some offer interpretations that are clearly condemned in the Bible. Fourth is an emerging acceptance of Catholic Church teachings among Protestants that they have been rejected since the Reformation. A number of Protestant preachers have aligned themselves with the Catholic Church, contradicting what they themselves have preached. Fifth, there is increasing emphasis being placed on the shared theological roots between Christians and Islam; all directed toward establishing a common ground between Christendom and Islam. Sixth are the soft solicitations of the Catholic Church to anti-Christian religions. Finally, and most importantly, is the apparent rise of a deity within the Catholic Church that would replace Christ as redeemer, advocate, and intercessor between God and man. One of the most important trends in the past seventy years has been the evolution of greater emphasis on the Virgin Mary. A new Marian dogma appears to be developing in the Netherlands that may replace Christ as our redeemer, mediator, and advocate. Apart from the world's search from some mystical divine reality, there is powerful political motivation behind this development. Collectively, all of the above point to the emergence of a one-world church as predicted in Revelation 13:1""17.

Nothing is above and beyond, everything is in human society. Human society is the latest animal society that evolved from a beast society. World anarchy is the world society; there is no global criterion to decide right or wrong, good or bad, legal or illegal, just or unjust, and reason or anti-reason. Book excerpt: American Girls and Global Responsibility brings together insights from Cold War culture studies, girls’ studies, and the history of gender and militarization to shed new light on how age and gender work together to form categories of citizenship. Jennifer Helgren argues that a new internationalist girl citizenship took root in the country in the years following World War II in youth organizations such as Camp Fire Girls, Girl Scouts, YWCA Y-Teens, schools, and even magazines like Seventeen. She shows the particular ways that girls’ identities and roles were configured, and reveals the links between internationalist youth culture, mainstream U.S. educational goals, and the U.S. government in creating and marketing that internationalist girl, thus shaping the girls’ sense of responsibilities as citizens.

Book excerpt: Overweight, though, in showcasing topical economic issues that excite reader interest in general, Behind the News, On a Journalist’s Radar, spreads out a rich and varied fare the sum and substance of which can’t be defined by a single theme or title. Tersely presented is a pack of incisive reviews of headline-making stuff that come to surface often sparking lively debates right across the spectrum. Behind the News is all the more conspicuous for its venturesome and, indeed, the first ever, attempt to project a personality, magisterial enough to be equated with the tumultuous millennium that has just gone by. Elsewhere, the author picks up signals from the omissions and commissions of a host of law-makers, central bankers and the media to boot. Heroes and hero-worship are alien to the ethos of the financial world but Behind the News spots one in the thick of the 1997 currency crisis. For relief and spicing, fugitive pieces from personal life, career rounds and fictional sources too are keyed in. As for the Indian economy, the book’s main focus, the author pithily notes it had never gained momentum at any point in history, and is unlikely to, given its empire-like structure and organisation. Also due from the author: All in the Shadow of Marx.
