Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Believers know that when we die we enter heaven and will spend eternity there with God and the saints who have gone before us. But what actually happens in heaven? What are we going to be doing there? Won't it get boring at some point? According to Scripture, a large part of our experience of heaven will be a continual revealing of God's glory. Not just his glory in the moment, but during all of time. The mysteries of providence, the hidden movements of God throughout history, and the forgotten and unnoted works of even the most obscure of God's people will be unveiled so that we can see how wise, loving, gracious, and powerful our God is. And though we will experience perfection in heaven, we will never be omniscient, which means we will always be learning more about God's glory, inspiring us to return joyful praise and thanksgiving. If your vision of heaven has been limited to clouds and harps and angels, it's time to expand that view with the truth found in this biblically based look at the afterlife.

Book excerpt: With Playing God, Andy Crouch opens the subject of power, elucidating its subtle activity in our relationships and institutions. He gives us much more than a warning against abuse, though. Turning the notion of "playing God" on its head, Crouch celebrates power as the gift by which we join in God's creative, redeeming work in the world.

Book excerpt: Many sincere, Bible-believing Christians are Calvinists only by default. Thinking that the only choice is between Calvinism (with its presumed doctrine of eternal security) and Arminianism (with its teaching that salvation can be lost), and confident of Christ's promise to keep eternally those who believe in Him, they therefore consider themselves to be Calvinists. It takes only a few simple questions to discover that most Christians are largely unaware of what John Calvin and his early followers of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries actually believed and practiced. Nor do they fully understand what most of today's leading Calvinists believe. Although there are disputed variations of the Calvinist doctrine, among its chief proponents (whom we quote extensively in context) there is general agreement on certain core beliefs. Many evangelicals who think they are Calvinists will be surprised to learn of Calvin's belief in salvation through infant baptism and of his grossly un-Christian behavior, at times, as the "Protestant Pope" of Geneva, Switzerland. Most shocking of all, however, is Calvinism's misrepresentation of God, who "is love." It is our prayer that this volume will enable readers to examine more carefully the vital issues involved and to follow God's holy Word--not man's teachings. "The first edition of this book was greeted by fervent opposition and criticism from Calvinists. In this enlarged and revised edition I have endeavored to respond to the critics." --Dave Hunt
Book Synopsis The Power of God's Love by : Peter Msule
Download or read book The Power of God's Love written by Peter Msule and published by . This book was released on 2023-06-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE POWER OF GOD's LOVE is so overwhelming in its Depth, its Height, its Width, and its Greatness, that no human mind can fathom it, although some have attempted to describe it, to write about it, and to sing about it. "The Love of God", wrote Frederick M. Lehman, the famous Song writer in 1917, "is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell". Even the Scriptures testify to this very sweet theme in numerous ways in so many passages of the Holy Book. This is why I find this book "The Power of God's Love", by Brother Peter Msule, so engaging. The author, in my view, has crafted a very appealing description of what is probably the most potent force on earth: God's Love. According to Brother Peter, "Love is the greatest need of man; even a wicked man has need of love". How true! I remember when Madelyn Murray O'Hare died in America; she was the most well known atheist in North America in 1960s. They found in her cupboard a hand written note, which read thus, " Won't anybody ever love me?" To this depth of man's yearning, God has responded by pouring out His love into man's heart and life, such that we all can drink of it. Men can, so can women. Children can partake of God's divine nature, which is love, just as much as adults can. The rich can, and so also the poor! (Matthew 11:28-30, Luke 14:22-23.) The remarkable result is that man is then able to love God, Love his neighbour, no matter which Faith the neighbour is, and also Love his enemies! Starting with John and Peter, and carrying on to us today, as disciples of Jesus, we are transformed into ministers of Love, the Holy Spirit playing a key role as the "Vehicle" of transfer or Conveyor of God's divine nature to man.Experiencing the Power of God's love is awesome. It can sometimes come through suffering. Peter Msule relates the experience of Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 12, and then his own personal experiences, where he had encounter with God in Scripture, through dreams, and through various other experiences. But it cannot come without "Repentance from dead works", a process which, according to D.L. Moody, "includes: Contrition, Conviction, Confession and Conversion" from sin and self. And it cannot come without Faith towards God. Experiencing the Power of God's love is great. It often comes by "impartation", the way the vine passes sap through to the branches (John 15) . Read about "the Benefits of Death", death to "self", that is! Read about the "Shocking Contempla- tions!" And also about the amazing similarities between the manifest works of the flesh, and the Octopus! What becomes clear as you get into the book is this; "self" is probably one's greatest enemy. Many people think the Devil, Satan or Lucifer is your greatest enemy. Brother Msule shows that "even if you take out the devil from the world, people will remain sinful and wicked. However if you take self (the sinful nature) from the world, everyone will automatically become holy". So you may think, "How is it possible for weak and vulnerable humans to get so close to the God who dwells in inapproachable light and to have such divine possibilities?" Simply, through The Power of God's Love! Still one wonders, "How can someone like this author, who is not very learned, come up with such a great treatise on such a huge subject matter?" It's easy. Like another song writer wrote about forgiveness, "once you've experienced it (the Power of God's Love) you just want to pass it on ". I think Peter Msule will readily agree. J. O. Book Synopsis The God Who Loves by : John F. MacArthur
Download or read book The God Who Loves written by John F. MacArthur and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2008-07-06 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "God is love." It's the most basic definition of God in Scriptures, but so profound that it's often misunderstood. In this probing book, a brilliant Bible expositor brings us into the very heart of God by answering such questions as: If God is love, how could He send anyone to hell? What's the difference between the loving God of the New Testament and the angry God of the Old Testament? If God is love, why did He require His Son to die such a cruel death on the Cross? How can God be both loving and jealous? The author argues against the two polar views of God as a sentimental grandfather whose doting love could not bring him to punishment of the disobedient and God as an angry tyrant who would rule by threats. "Both extremes paint a distorted picture of God and further confuse the issue of understanding God's love," Dr. MacArthur writes. He insists that what God loves is actually defined by what He hates, and that neither His love nor His wrath can be understood in isolation from the other. Although the author is clearly aware of the way great men have grappled with these issues in the history of the Church, his doctrinal presentations arise more from the biblical text than from dogmatic theology. He examines in detail the way John?"the apostle of love"?treats love in his First Epistle, then fleshes out the doctrine of God's love in vivid representations of real people interacting with divine love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diana Butler Bass, one of contemporary Christianity’s leading trend-spotters, exposes how the failings of the church today are giving rise to a new “spiritual but not religious” movement. Using evidence from the latest national polls and from her own cutting-edge research, Bass, the visionary author of A People’s History of Christianity, continues the conversation began in books like Brian D. McLaren’s A New Kind of Christianity and Harvey Cox’s The Future of Faith, examining the connections—and the divisions—between theology, practice, and community that Christians experience today. Bass’s clearly worded, powerful, and probing Christianity After Religion is required reading for anyone invested in the future of Christianity.
