Book excerpt: Even after he has composed the awesome Mahabharata, the Maharishi Vyasa finds no peace. Narada Muni says to him, Ordinary men will be delighted by your work, but what about the Sages of heaven and earth? You have described the human life, its strife and its ends, but you have not yet described the Lord himself. You must turn your great gift to that task; only then will you find peace. Veda Vyasa composes the Bhagavata Purana, in eighteen thousand slokas and twelve kandas. He teaches it to his illumined son Suka, who narrates the Secret Purana to Yudhishtira s heir, King Parikshit, on the banks of the Ganga. The Bhagavata Purana is a living embodiment of the Lord Narayana and claims to bestow moksha merely by being heard. Just before Krishna, the Avatara, leaves the world, Uddhava says to him, leave us a tangible form, Lord, in which we can find you, touch you, and be near you. Krishna enters the Bhagavata Purana with all of his being. This book is a full literary rendering of the Bhagavata Purana, bringing all the wonder, wisdom and grace of the Book of God to the modern reader.

Book Synopsis Srimad Bhagwat Puran by : B. K. Chaturvedi
Download or read book Srimad Bhagwat Puran written by B. K. Chaturvedi and published by Diamond Pocket Books Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2020 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ‘Srimad Bhagwal’ itself is believed to be the gem among all the sacred Puranas as it emphasises on the devotion to Lord. Vishnu’s incarnation, Lord Krishna. It is believed to have been authored by the great sage Vedavyasa when he felt a great unrest troubling his soul after authoring the Mahabharat. Although this Purana itself is believed to be a part of Skanda Purana, it is its lyrical beauty and devotion to Krishna that made it most popular. It enlists 22 incarnations of Lord Vishnu, while other sacred accounts of the Sanatana Dharma believe that there were nine incarnations and one is yet to come. Normally in the Purana, the tales or stories frequently overlap with each other giving emphasis on a different point. Owing to paucity of space, many of the stories have been given a brief mention in this work with the footnote guiding to the sources, to get the full story in the other Puranas. There are also certain variations in the details of the stories which have been also marked within parenthesis. Also, many details mentioned in this Puran which may appear uninteresting, have been deliberately left out. Some of the stories which are well- known have been skipped. For example, the Ramakatha or the details about other incarnations popularised by other sacred sources. The main emphasis in culling out the stories has been on those stories that reveal the basic moral fiber of our ethos. These stories have been recreated keeping in mind the comprehension of our young learners and hence making these stories more logical. This work is only an attempt to make our society recapture its roots. That is why the language and style have been used with great care so as to make the stories readable and comprehensive. It is hoped that our discerning readership will accord it a warm welcome. Lastly, the author wishes to record his gratitude to Narenderji of Diamond Pocket Books whose crusade to publish the gems of our cultural and religious ethos has few parallels in the field of publishing.

Download or read book Sai Spiritual Mystic Wisdom written by Acharya Purushottamananda and published by Diamond Pocket Books Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2016-09-28 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the literature published about Sai Baba of Shirdi, his divine sports are generally described overlaid with the emphasis on Hindu orientation and euology so as to create devotion in the readers' mind for him as a Hindu God or Deity. This has led to creation of his idolatory. There is hardly any literature available that deals with his spiritual mystic wisdom, which can be seen interspersed in his conversations and occasional seemingly, bizzare utterances on certain occasions. He used to suggest certain books to his close devotees for Shravan, Manan and Nidhidhyasan in the conclave of the learned ones among them, and also at times himself making their expositions in his conversations. In the present book an authoritative attempt is made to delineate The Spiritual Mystic Wisdom of Sai Baba based on integration of Sahaj Raj Yoga, Karm Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Jnana Yoga as he used to refer to devotees for their spiritual pursuits. Acharya Purushottamananda, former Professor of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, was born on 28" January, 1935 in a Jat Zamindar family with historic tradition of valour and patriotism in Tehsil Iglas of Aligarh District. He came in contact with the Revolutionary movement for the independence of India, and the Arya Samaj Movement under the legendary leadership of Raja Mahendra Pratap of Mursan. He received his education leading to the post-graduation in Political Science at Aligarh. He joined the government of India service in the Ministry of Rehabilitation, but later went for further education. He received Master's degree in Education from the University of Aligarh and also from the University of Manchester, UK. Presently, he is engaged in peripatetic mission by joining spiritual congregation of different orders, where he is welcome; but has no organizational links with any religious or cult organizations.

Book Synopsis Mysteries of the Sacred Universe by : Richard L. Thompson
Download or read book Mysteries of the Sacred Universe written by Richard L. Thompson and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2000-02-04 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the flat earth to the sun's chariot - traditional spiritual texts seem wedded to outmoded cosmologies that show, at best, the scientific limitations of their authors. The Bhagavata Purana, one of the classical scriptures of Hinduism, seems, at first glance, to be no exception. However, a closer examination of this text reveals unexpected depths of knowledge in ancient cosmology. Mysteries of the Sacred Universe shows that the cosmology of the Bhagavata Purana is a sophisticated system, with multiple levels of meaning that encode at least four different astronomical, geographical, and spiritual world models. By viewing the text in the light of modern astronomy, Richard Thompson shows how ancient scientists expressed exact knowledge in apparently mythological terms. Comparison with the ancient traditions of Egypt and the Near East shows early cultural connections between India and these regions - including a surprisingly advanced science. However, quantitative science is only part of the picture. Mysteries of the Sacred Universe also offers a clear understanding of how the spiritual dimension was integrated into ancient Indian cosmology.
Book Synopsis The Devī Gītā by : C. Mackenzie Brown
Download or read book The Devī Gītā written by C. Mackenzie Brown and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1998-09-11 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a translation, with introduction, commentary, and annotation, of the medieval Hindu Sanskrit text the Devi Gita (Song of the Goddess). It is an important but not well-known text from the rich SAakta (Goddess) tradition of India. The Devi Gita was composed about the fifteenth century C.E., in partial imitation of the famous Bhagavad Gita (Song of the Lord), composed some fifteen centuries earlier. Around the sixth century C.E., following the rise of several male deities to prominence, a new theistic movement began in which the supreme being was envisioned as female, known as the Great Goddess (Maha-Devi). Appearing first as a violent and blood-loving deity, this Goddess gradually evolved into a more benign figure, a compassionate World-Mother and bestower of salvific wisdom. It is in this beneficent mode that the Goddess appears in the Devi Gita. This work makes available an up-to-date translation of the Devi Gita, along with a historical and theological analysis of the text. The book is divided into sections of verses, and each section is followed by a comment explaining key terms, concepts, ritual procedures, and mythic themes. The comments also offer comparisons with related schools of thought, indicate parallel texts and textual sources of verses in the Devi Gita, and briefly elucidate the historical and religious background, supplementing the remarks of the introduction.
