As soon as we're no longer teacher and student, I'll get her in my bed and keep her there until she leaves this small Texas town to chase her dreams in the Kentucky Bluegrass. But when a twist of fate makes this filly my summer intern before I can wrangle her properly, she's once again off-limits. A summer of watching her lick her plump red lips? There's no way I'm going to last. I may be a horse vet, but I'm a cowboy through and through. I need to break Rule #2 and take this filly for a ride she won't forget. Download or read book Get Happy written by Gerald Clarke and published by Delta. This book was released on 2009-11-11 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: She lived at full throttle on stage, screen, and in real life, with highs that made history and lows that finally brought down the curtain at age forty-seven. Judy Garland died over thirty years ago, but no biography has so completely captured her spirit -- and demons -- until now. From her tumultuous early years as a child performer to her tragic last days, Gerald Clarke reveals the authentic Judy in a biography rich in new detail and unprecedented revelations. Based on hundreds of interviews and drawing on her own unfinished -- and unpublished -- autobiography, Get Happy presents the real Judy Garland in all her flawed glory. With the same skill, style, and storytelling flair that made his bestselling Capote a landmark literary biography, Gerald Clarke sorts through the secrets and the scandals, the legends and the lies, to create a portrait of Judy Garland as candid as it is compassionate. Here are her early years, during which her parents sowed the seeds of heartbreak and self-destruction that would plague her for decades ... the golden age of Hollywood, brought into sharp focus with cinematic urgency, from the hidden private lives of the movie world's biggest stars to the cold-eyed businessmen who controlled the machine ... and a parade of brilliant and gifted men -- lovers and artists, impresarios and crooks -- who helped her reach so many creative pinnacles yet left her hopeless and alone after each seemingly inevitable fall. Here, then, is Judy Garland in all her magic and despair: the woman, the star, the legend, in a riveting saga of tragedy, resurrection, and genius.

Book Synopsis A Season of Flowers (Tilbury House Nature Book) by : Michael Garland
Download or read book A Season of Flowers (Tilbury House Nature Book) written by Michael Garland and published by Tilbury House Publishers and Cadent Publishing. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michael Garland (Daddy Played the Blues) displays his impressive illustration range with the stylized, country-quilt, digital collage illustrations of A Season of Flowers. Snowdrops and crocuses yield to tulips and hyacinths, then dogwood blossoms, iris, lupine, daisies, morning glories, daylilies, geraniums, peonies, sunflowers, roses, and chrysanthemums as spring passes to summer, then autumn. At last the garden slumbers into winter under a blanket of snow, preparing next year’s procession of blooms. Like actors crossing a stage, flowers narrate the passing seasons in the first person, each one briefly proclaiming its unique and vital role in the natural world. Backmatter descriptions complete this child’s introduction to a garden year, in which the passage of time is vividly realized. Fountas & Pinnell Level L

Book Synopsis Boy Life on the Prairie by : Hamlin Garland
Download or read book Boy Life on the Prairie written by Hamlin Garland and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 1961-01-01 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boy Life on the Prairie was first published in 1899, some eighteen years before the appearance of Hamlin Garland?s A Son of the Middle Border. The broad scope of the latter book, as B. R. McElderry, Jr., tells us in the introduction to this new edition of Boy Life, has overshadowed the ?earlier and better book of reminiscence dealing specifically with Garland?s boyhood experiences on an Iowa farm from 1869 to about 1881. When he wrote Boy Life on the Prairie Garland was much closer to the subject than he was in 1917, and he had the advantage of a more restricted aim: to tell directly and specifically what it was like to grow up in northeast Iowa in the years just after the Civil War. It may safely be said that no one else has given so clear and informative an account. When one considers other accounts of boyhood in nineteenth-century America?those of Aldrich, Clemens, Warner, and Howells, for example?one is impressed with the thoroughness and precision of Garland?s book. Aside from Main-Travelled Roads, Boy Life, is probably the best single book that Garland ever wrote.? The Bison Book edition is the first in more than fifty years to reproduce in full the 1899 text. It also includes an introduction addressed ?To My Young Readers? and the ?Author?s Notes? which appeared in the 1926 edition published by Allyn & Bacon. The forty-seven line drawings and six full-page illustrations by E. W. Deming are reproduced from the 1899 edition. In his introduction, Dr. McElderry provides a thorough and interesting analysis of Boy Life and compares it with the sketches written in 1888 which were Garland?s first attempt at reminiscence, as well as with A Son of the Middle Border.
