Book Synopsis Racism in the White Church by : Dr John McElhaney
Download or read book Racism in the White Church written by Dr John McElhaney and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-09-05 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have been in the ministry almost fifty years and have made it my life's work to stand against racism. This is the one major issue in the church today that needs to be settled. To say that we don't have a problem is to ether reveal your own racism, ignorance, or blindness to the fact. I know there are many pastors who are racist and would never preach against it. Because of that the people in the church follow your lead and are racist as well. This is the one thing that is stopping revival from coming to our land. God cannot bless a divide church and the division is because of the white folks not the blacks. The whites are the offenders and need to make the first step in bringing reconciliation. The one thing that will change people's attitude of others is to begin worshipping together, when you worship together you become one.

The cemetery was chartered 21 April 1886 by African-American businessmen, all former slaves, faced with exhaustion of Oakland Cemetery (1850) and desirous of a respectful burial ground. The Watts family has managed the cemetery from its earliest days; the current president is the great-granddaughter of the patriarch, Albert Watts. Notable burials include the parents and grandparents of Martin Luther King, Jr.; John Wesley Dobbs, the ""Mayor of Sweet Auburn""; and Alonzo Franklin Herndon, who was born a slave, worked as a sharecropper, established a chain of opulent and successful barbershops, then became Atlanta's first black millionaire through the Atlanta Life Insurance Company. Through the lives and accomplishments in death-year order of over 100 people buried at South-View, this book tells the history of African-American Atlanta. Introductory essays are by Traci Rylands and Herman ""Skip"" Mason, Jr.

Book Synopsis Cemeteries of Seattle by : Robin Shannon

Book excerpt: A fascinating story exists just below Seattle's surface, buried in the city's many historic cemeteries. Founded in 1872 on land acquired from Doc Maynard, Lake View Cemetery holds the remains of one of Seattle's favorite sons, Bruce Lee, whose son Brandon Lee is buried beside him. Maynard is also buried here, along with most of the Seattle pioneers, including the Dennys, Borens, Maynards, Yeslers, and Morans. Princess Angeline, Chief Sealth's daughter, was buried here in a canoe-shaped coffin, and Madame Damnable's remains supposedly turned to stone. Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery, founded in 1884 by the Denny family, contains Judge Thomas Burke, known as "the man who built Seattle"; a Veterans' Memorial Cemetery dating from the Civil War; and two cannons from the USS Constitution, famously nicknamed "Old Ironsides." Mount Pleasant Cemetery, founded in 1883 in Queen Anne, is the final resting place of the labor martyrs of the Everett Massacre and William Bell, of Belltown fame. Remembrance benches for Nirvana's Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix's memorial are also local landmarks.
