Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Water Supply of Suffolk From Underground Sources: With Records of Sinkings and Borings This is the fourth of the series of County Memoirs dealing with the Water Supply from Underground Sources, the counties already dealt with being Sussex (1899); Berkshire (1902); and Lincolnshire (1904). In carrying out the work we have been fortunate in securing the services of Mr. Whitaker, who has been a pioneer in the matter of recording details of well-sinkings and borings. The principal points of geological interest are the record of the deep boring at Stutton, which was carried out for the Eastern Counties Coal-boring and Development Association, and the further evidence of the great thickness of the Glacial Drift in many places. Dr. H. R. Mill has supplied particulars as to the rainfall of the county, and has prepared a rainfall-map. Di. H. F. Parsons and Dr. J. C. Thresh have materially assisted in the preparation of the Memoir, especially with regard to chemical analyses, and we are greatly indebted to the Local Government Board for many valuable records; also to the engineers, well-sinkers and other observers who have so kindly given information, and whose names are quoted in the body of the Memoir and in the Index.
