Book excerpt: This book demonstrates how and why vitalism - the idea that life cannot be explained by the principles of mechanism - matters now. Vitalism resists closure and reductionism in the life sciences whilst simultaneously addressing the object of life itself. The aim of this collection is to consider the questions that vitalism makes it possible to ask: questions about the role and status of life across the sciences, social sciences and humanities and questions about contingency, indeterminacy, relationality and change. All have special importance now, as the concepts of complexity, artificial life and artificial intelligence, information theory and cybernetics become increasingly significant in more and more fields of activity.

Book excerpt: "The Vitality of Old Testament Traditions" offers the best current handling of Pentateuchal traditions as they operated in the past and as they help the church now. Wolff sees Israel's faith tradition as a continuous kerygmatic response to a variety of cultural challenges. Brueggemann introduces this dynamic view of tradition. Both authors approach the Pentateuch as a treasury of new expressions of faith resulting from conflicts between traditional formulas and changing social conditions. Today's church can remain spiritually alive only if its traditions continue to be as resilient as they were in the Old Testament community. Wolff and Brueggemann affirm that modern crises of faith should be met with fresh articulations in the manner of ancient Israel-- innovative and pertinent if they are strengthened by the relevance of the past.

Book excerpt: This study explores the interplay between the commendation of enjoyment and the injunction to fear God in Ecclesiastes. Previous studies have tended to examine these seemingly antithetical themes in isolation from one another. Seeing enjoyment and fear to be positively correlated, however, enables a fresh articulation of the book’s theology. Enjoyment of life lies at the heart of Qohelet’s vision of piety, which may be characterized as faithful realism, calling for an authentic engagement with both the tragic and joyous dimensions of human existence. Book excerpt: Currently, U.S. community colleges serve nearly half of all students of color in higher education who, for a multitude of reasons, do not continue their education by transferring to a university. For those students who do transfer, often the responsibility for the application process, retention, graduation, and overall success is placed on them rather than their respective institutions. This book aims to provide direction toward the development and maintenance of a transfer receptive culture, which is defined as an institutional commitment by a university to support transfer students of color. A transfer receptive culture explicitly acknowledges the roles of race and racism in the vertical transfer process from a community college to a university and unapologetically centers transfer as a form of equity in the higher education pipeline. The framework is guided by critical race theory in education, which acknowledges the role of white supremacy and its contemporary and historical role in shaping institutions of higher learning.

This book was released on 2022-07-14 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solar energy data at ground level are important for a wide range of applications in meteorology, engineering, agricultural sciences (particularly for soil physics, agricultural hydrology, crop modeling and estimating crop evapotranspiration), as well as in the health sector and in research in many fields of the natural sciences. The solar energy reaching the Earth upper atmosphere is a quantity rather constant in time. However, the radiation reaching some point on Earth surface is random in nature, due to the gases, clouds and dust within the atmosphere, which absorb and/or scatter radiation at different wavelengths. Climate change is becoming more and more evident to everybody and there is an urgent need for action. The climate of Egypt is generally moderate ranging from semiarid to extremely arid conditions with distinguished features of arid zones. There are three distinguished types of climate in Egypt including the desert climate (in the inland areas), the Mediterranean climate (in the northern coastal areas) and the climate of the coast of the Red Sea. Solar energy reduces greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere because it harnesses the power of sun energy with little to no gases being released. The amount of carbon dioxide released to the atmosphere is way less from solar energy compared to coal plants when seeking to produce the same amount of KWh per year. The benefits of solar power to the environment include the provision of an inexhaustible supply of energy from the sun. Solar power captures the sun’s energy with no harm to the environment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Motivation Manifesto is a poetic and powerful call to reclaim your life and find your own personal freedom from Brendon Burchard – the world’s #1 high performance coach and #1 New York Times bestselling author of High Performance Habits. “It’s a triumphant work that transcends the title, lifting the reader from mere motivation into a soaringly purposeful and meaningful life. I love this book." —Paulo Coelho The Motivation Manifesto is a call to claim our personal power. World-renowned high performance trainer Brendon Burchard reveals that the main motive of humankind is the pursuit of greater Personal Freedom. We desire the grand liberties of choice—time freedom, emotional freedom, social freedom, financial freedom, spiritual freedom. Only two enemies stand in our way: an external enemy, defined as the social oppression of who we are by the mediocre masses, and an internal enemy, a sort of self-oppression caused by our own doubt and fear. The march to Personal Freedom, Brendon says, can be won only by declaring our intent and independence, stepping into our personal power, and battling through self-doubt and the distractions of the day until full victory is won. Recalling the revolutionist voices of the past that chose freedom over tyranny, Brendon motivates us to free ourselves from fear and take back our lives once and for all. In this life-changing personal growth book, Brendon presents his nine declarations for personal power and motivation, drawing on insights from his own personal journey and from the lives of some of history's greatest leaders and thinkers. Each chapter focuses on one of the nine declarations, offering practical strategies and exercises to help you apply these principles to your life. Whether you're seeking to overcome self-doubt, boost your confidence, or achieve your goals, The Motivation Manifesto is an invaluable guide to unlocking your full potential. With its inspiring message and actionable advice, this bestselling book is a must-read for anyone who wants to unleash their inner greatness with the power of determination, resilience, and an empowering mindset.
