This book was released on 1977 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 22-foot boat was instrumented to provide closed-circuit TV recording capabilities of head and eye movements. Four experienced boaters operated the test vehicle at low and high levels of: fatigue, velocity, and traffic density. The visual characteristic variables derived included: means and standard deviations by degrees of horizontal and vertical eye fixations; the percentage time spent in visual zones; the percent time spent looking at different objects (i.e., other boats); and eye fixation durations. At the higher fatigue level, subjects spent less time looking at the instrument panel and lowered their fixation pattern from above to below the horizon. Low fatigue did not affect the dispersion of the horizontal looking fixations as traffic density increased, but the high fatigue affected this dispersion at both low and high density levels.

Download or read book Analysis of Recreational Boating Impact on Navigation Lock Performance written by Daniel D. Badger and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study has provided significant information about several aspects of boating conflicts between recreational boaters and commercial tow boat operators on the Illinois River and on the Upper Mississippi River. The first insight gained is that both recreational boat operators and commercial tow boat operators are willing to be interviewed about their attitudes, preferences, and suggestions for improvement. Survey forms were used to personnel interview 207 recreational boaters, 21 commercial tow boat operators and 10 Corps of Engineers lock personnel.

Download or read book Manned Systems Design written by Krais Moraal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of a conference held in Freiburg, West Germany, September 22-25, 1980, entitled "Manned Systems Design, New Methods and Equipment". The conference was sponsored by the Special Programme Panel on Human Factors of the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO, and supported by Panel VIII, AC/243, on "Human and Biomedical Sciences". Their sponsorship and support are gratefully acknowledged. The contributions in the book are grouped according to the main themes of the conference with special emphasis on analytical approaches, measurement of performance, and simulator design and evaluat ion. The design of manned systems covers many and highly diversified areas. Therefore, a conference under the general title of "Manned Systems Design" is rather ambitious in itself. However, scientists and engineers engaged in the design of manned systems very often are confronted with problems that can be solved only by having several disciplines working together. So it was felt that knowledge about newly developed methods and equipment, applicable in the design process, is of common and increasing interest for all those who are engaged in the design of manned systems, from the earliest con ceptual design phases until operation under real circumstances. This seems to be particularly true in view of restricted resources of manpower and energy.
Book Synopsis Alcohol and Pleasure Boat Operators by : C. Christian Stiehl
Download or read book Alcohol and Pleasure Boat Operators written by C. Christian Stiehl and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents an initial look at the involvement of alcohol in recreational boating. It attempts to identify a problem area. The report has three objectives: (1) to define drunkenness in small boating; (2) to describe a method of determining the degree of drunkenness of boat operators; and (3) to describe the degree of drunkenness of drowning and accident victims. In addition, there is some discussion of the effects of alcohol, especially in relation to defining levels of drunkenness. The cost and benefits tradeoffs for various methods of testing for the blood-alcohol level of a boater are discussed. Finally, available data on drowning and accident victims are analyzed and criticized, and conclusions are drawn.
