Download or read book The Serpent of Paradise written by Erwin W. Lutzer and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 1986-08-07 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How we perceive our enemy will largely determine how we fight against him. Unless we grasp how the devil fits into God's scheme of things, we will find it difficult to stand against his conspiracy against us personally and his influence within our culture. We can have a proper theology of the devil only if we have a proper theology of God. Only when we stand in awe of God will we find it unnecessary to be in awe of Satan. As Martin Luther once said, 'The devil is God's devil.' God is still in control. The Serpent of Paradise gives an overview of the career of Satan and his interaction with the Almighty. It traces his fall from an exalted position to his demise in everlasting shame and contempt. It shows us that Satan always loses even when 'he wins.' Best of all, it confirms that we who have been translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light are able to stand against him. Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. ~ Ephesians 6:10-11 NIV. The Serpent of Paradise is a book about Satan, but it is also a book about God's power, God's program, and God's purposes in this world.
Download or read book The Deceiver written by Livio Fanzaga and published by Sophia. This book was released on 2022-02-22 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fr. Livio Fanzaga, the Rome-educated, Vatican-endorsed writer and director of Europe's largest Catholic radio network, warns: Efforts to soft-pedal the reality and continuous threat of the devil have left many Catholics "unarmed and unprepared" to resist him. But the question is: How does Satan tempt and deceive us? And how can we see through and resist him? In The Deceiver: Our Daily Struggle with Satan, Fr. Fanzaga confidently guides you through everything the Catechism, Sacred Scripture, and the wisdom of the saints tell us about the wiles and antics of the devil. You'll come to understand why evil exists, and you'll explore real-life examples of how the enemy tempts and ensnares us. The Deceiver masterfully unmasks the devil's seductive plan to create a kingdom of his own in your heart, ruled by pride, sensuality, greed, anger, fear, violence, and destruction. Most importantly, Fr. Fanzaga provides you with the weapons you need to combat the darkness of the enemy and the seven capital vices. "Satan wants to buy you at a cheap price, but Jesus has poured out His blood in order to obtain your soul," reflects the author. These pages correct many of the most common misconceptions about Satan while shedding important light on the end times. They also reveal: The strategy of the evil one in attacking our minds and hearts Why sin is so alluring How we can help - and harm - others on their way to salvation How you can use the light of God to expose evil How to be on constant guard against temptation and Satan's traps The proper roles of repentance and mortification The keys to opening your soul to grace and discernment Fr. Fanzaga warns us in this stunning book: "In a cultural climate that excludes the supernatural, the devil acts without being noticed. In a context of life in which God and His moral law are denied, Satan moves like a fish in water. Souls without light and deprived of the weapons of the holy battle are doomed." The Deceiver will equip you with the weapons you need to defeat Satan while opening your eyes to the miracles of God's healing love as you prepare for eternity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spiritual writer, theologian, and philosopher Jesuit Fr. Robert Spitzer tackles the topic of recognizing and overcoming spiritual evil. His focus is the human heart. His goal: our moral and spiritual transformation, which leads to true peace and genuine happiness. The book is divided into two main parts: the realities of God's goodness and of spiritual evil, and recognizing and overcoming diabolical tactics, which range from temptation and deception to the Deadly Sins. Father Spitzer shows readers how to experience God's peace even during times of suffering and persecution. He examines the basics of the spiritual life and Christian mysticism, including the contemplative dimension. He explains the purgative, illuminative, and unitive aspects of spirituality, as well as the Lord's consolation and the passive Dark Night of the Spirit. Father Spitzer provides the biblical and theological background of Jesus' victory over Satan. The author also explores the reality of the Devil, including extraordinary manifestations of diabolic activity such as possession. He recalls the true story of the famous possession case on which the novel and film The Exorcist were based. In the final sections of the book the author explains: how diabolical spiritual forces operate how temptation works, and what to do to defeat it the "deadly sins" and how to overcome them
Book Synopsis I Believe in Satan's Downfall by : Michael Green
Download or read book I Believe in Satan's Downfall written by Michael Green and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2023-09-28 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Satan is real—on that the Bible is certain—but so is his ultimate defeat. High among the list of traditional Christian doctrines that have fallen into disrepute is belief in Satan. Many theologians and laypersons find belief in the devil ridiculous in our enlightened age. Michael Green pushes back against this assumption and offers a biblical account of evil and the certainty of its defeat. He calls Christians to take seriously the spiritual battle in which followers of Christ are necessarily engaged, and to recognize both the strength of the devil and the greater strength of the living God. “Satan will be defeated and abolished. Eternity will not be disfigured by the self-seeking, deceit, hatred, and accusations of the Adversary, but God will be all in all and the redeemed will be for ever satisfied with their Lord, who has turned Paradise lost into Paradise regained.”

Book Synopsis Precious Remedies Against Satan's Devices by : Thomas Brooks
Download or read book Precious Remedies Against Satan's Devices written by Thomas Brooks and published by . This book was released on 2022-08-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1652, Thomas Brooks' "Precious Remedies Against Satan's Devices" offers insights into the snares and schemes of the devil which are timely and relevant for today. Though centuries have passed since its writing, this timeless classic remains an amazing work of teaching on the thousands of ways Satan seeks to destroy every Christian and the thousands of ways God has provided every Christian to defeat Satan's nefarious schemes. In true Puritan style, this book is a serious tome in which the author minces no words and gets straight to the point. The good news is that, though Satan is vicious in his drive to destroy God's people, he can and must be withstood! As this book explain, God makes victory possible by strengthening His people to overcome the Tempter. An earnest, passionate, and deadly serious author, Brooks spared no effort or source to persuade and plead with his readers. His method is to lead off with one of Satan's devices (some lie that Satan seeks to impress upon us) and then show the reader various ways to combat that particular device (the remedies). Like other Puritan books of his day, Brook's writing is solidly Biblical. Almost every remedy Brooks offers reminds the reader of some Biblical truth-urging them to think on it, consider, ponder and soak it in. Instead of some magic mantra or special prayer tactic, Brooks simply shines the light of Scriptures on the problems each Christian will face. Brooks was fond of quoting "wise heathens" (such as Zeno and Seneca) in his writing. His willingness to draw from non-Biblical sources is a good example of just how broadminded the Puritans really were, even as they walked the straight and narrow. The free use of Biblical truth from the lips of pagan authors shows a breadth of thinking and outlook often unattributed to Christian authors of such unbending theology and purpose.
Book Synopsis The Christian's Combat Against the Devil by : Christopher Love
Download or read book The Christian's Combat Against the Devil written by Christopher Love and published by . This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christopher Love (1618-1651) was a fiery and practical Puritan preacher. His works consist of some of the best written and preached biblical expositions in the English language. How does the Christian overcome sinful temptations, and fight successfully against the kingdom of darkness lead by the Devil himself? In this work on Ephesians 6:13-17 Christopher Love explains how the armor of God gives the reader a stratagem to wage war against the Devil and his darkness. Love shows the nature, power, and cunning deceit of Satan, the great enemy of our salvation, and subsequently demonstrates the means by which every good Christian may withstand his dreadful assaults.Love explains that Jesus Christ requires every Christian to be violent in their besiege against the Prince of this world, and how, once one is enlisted in Christ¿s army, there is no retreat. Yet, one cannot be righteously violent for God in spiritual warfare unless they know the weapons of their warfare, which are not earthly, but spiritual. Love will show Christians what those weapons are, and how to use them effectively, with the quintessence of the crown of prayer, to obtain a hearty defense against the assaults of the Devil. Christians must be prepared and aware of the devices of Satan, lest he should gain an advantage over them: for they cannot be ignorant of his devices. This work is not a scan or facsimile, has been carefully transcribed by hand being made easy to read in modern English, and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.
