Book Synopsis Digital Technologies and Learning in Physical Education by : Ashley Casey
Download or read book Digital Technologies and Learning in Physical Education written by Ashley Casey and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-11-10 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is evidence of considerable growth in the availability and use of digital technologies in physical education. Yet, we have scant knowledge about how technologies are being used by teachers, and whether or how these technologies are optimising student learning. This book makes a novel contribution by focusing on the ways in which teachers and teacher educators are attempting to use digital technologies in PE. The book has been created using the innovative ‘pedagogical cases’ framework. Each case centres on a narrative, written by a PE practitioner, explaining how and why technology is used in their practice to advance and accelerate learning. Each practitioner narrative is then analysed by a team of experts from different disciplines. The aim is to offer a multi-dimensional understanding of the possibilities and challenges of supporting young people’s learning with digital technologies. Each case concludes with a practitioner reflection to illustrate the links between theory, research and practice. Digital Technologies and Learning in Physical Education encourages critical reflection on the use of technologies in PE. It is an essential resource for students on physical education, kinesiology or sport science courses, practitioners working in PE or youth sport, and researchers interested in digital technologies and education.

Book excerpt: Rapid developments in electronic technology have made important effects on Education systems in the world. It is doubtless that new technology has affected both economical system and social and education system. People who plan the future education have to know where this technology inclines to and act considering this. Physical activities have been needed for a number of reasons; such as, defense, environmental factors and continuing the lives. In some other situations, the most important motive for physical activity has been the longing for a more quality life. It was found that the use of technology in physical education programs increased the motivation to materials offered and learning. Physical education teachers have started to be enthusiastic n using the technology together with the potential of the internet in their class. The results of the studies showed that the use of technology in physical education as a teaching tool could be useful for both the teachers and the students. Book Synopsis National Standards & Grade-Level Outcomes for K-12 Physical Education by : SHAPE America - Society of Health and Physical Educators
Download or read book National Standards & Grade-Level Outcomes for K-12 Physical Education written by SHAPE America - Society of Health and Physical Educators and published by Human Kinetics. This book was released on 2014-03-13 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focused on physical literacy and measurable outcomes, empowering physical educators to help students meet the Common Core standards, and coming from a recently renamed but longstanding organization intent on shaping a standard of excellence in physical education, National Standards & Grade-Level Outcomes for K-12 Physical Education is all that and much more. Created by SHAPE America — Society of Health and Physical Educators (formerly AAHPERD) — this text unveils the new National Standards for K-12 Physical Education. The standards and text have been retooled to support students’ holistic development. This is the third iteration of the National Standards for K-12 Physical Education, and this latest version features two prominent changes: •The term physical literacy underpins the standards. It encompasses the three domains of physical education (psychomotor, cognitive, and affective) and considers not only physical competence and knowledge but also attitudes, motivation, and the social and psychological skills needed for participation. • Grade-level outcomes support the national physical education standards. These measurable outcomes are organized by level (elementary, middle, and high school) and by standard. They provide a bridge between the new standards and K-12 physical education curriculum development and make it easy for teachers to assess and track student progress across grades, resulting in physically literate students. In developing the grade-level outcomes, the authors focus on motor skill competency, student engagement and intrinsic motivation, instructional climate, gender differences, lifetime activity approach, and physical activity. All outcomes are written to align with the standards and with the intent of fostering lifelong physical activity. National Standards & Grade-Level Outcomes for K-12 Physical Education presents the standards and outcomes in ways that will help preservice teachers and current practitioners plan curricula, units, lessons, and tasks. The text also • empowers physical educators to help students meet the Common Core standards; • allows teachers to see the new standards and the scope and sequence for outcomes for all grade levels at a glance in a colorful, easy-to-read format; and • provides administrators, parents, and policy makers with a framework for understanding what students should know and be able to do as a result of their physical education instruction. The result is a text that teachers can confidently use in creating and enhancing high-quality programs that prepare students to be physically literate and active their whole lives.
Book Synopsis Contemporary Uses of Technology in K-12 Physical Education by : Steve Sanders
Download or read book Contemporary Uses of Technology in K-12 Physical Education written by Steve Sanders and published by IAP. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do teachers, principals, school administrators, superintendents, state policy makers, and parents need to know about the growing trend to use technology in physical activity environments? How can technology be used to increase not only fitness levels but academic learning in today’s youth? How can kids benefit from increased use of technology in physical education? These questions and others are answered in this volume of the series Educational Policy in the 21st Century: Opportunities, Challenges, and Solutions. An entire generation is growing up without the benefits of daily physical activity. The daily experiences of our children are centered on the use of technology driven, mostly sedentary, activities. Technology should be considered a viable tool that can increase physical activity levels when implemented effectively. The lack of contemporary programs and strategies that motivate participants to want to participate daily in physical activity has created a culture of inactivity and obesity and is having a profound effect on the physical health and academic learning potential of today’s youth. In this volume the authors suggest current trends and explore the enormous potential of technology in motivating youth to commit to daily physical activity. Authors detail contemporary programs, teaching strategies and contemporary technologies beginning to be used in schools across the country, and suggest policies, directions, and cost considerations for implementing technology based learning in physical activity and physical education settings.

Book Synopsis School Physical Education and Teacher Education by : Ann MacPhail
Download or read book School Physical Education and Teacher Education written by Ann MacPhail and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-01-23 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Setting a common international agenda for physical education, this book asks how physical education and physical education teacher education can be reconfigured together so that they are responsive to changes in today’s fast-paced, diverse and uncertain global society. It argues that only a revolutionary move away from national policy silos can reinvigorate physical education and lead to improved, equitable outcomes for children and youth, and both novice and veteran teachers. Drawing on developing success stories in diverse places, this book emphasizes three important strategies: international-comparative analyses, which facilitate cross-border knowledge generation, innovation, professional learning and continuous improvement; solid, dynamic partnerships between teacher education programmes and exemplary school physical education programmes; and knowledge-generating teams consisting of exemplary teachers and teacher educators. Each chapter provides viable alternatives and rationales framed by unique national and local contexts. Significantly, these chapters announce that the work that lies ahead – and starts now – is a collective action project. It necessitates collaborative research and development among policy leaders, researchers, teacher education specialists, physical education teachers and, in some cases, school-age students. This is essential reading for all researchers with an interest in physical education or teacher education, and an invaluable source of new perspectives for physical education students, pre-service and in-service teachers, and educational administrators and policymakers.

This book was released on 2013-11-13 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical inactivity is a key determinant of health across the lifespan. A lack of activity increases the risk of heart disease, colon and breast cancer, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, osteoporosis, anxiety and depression and others diseases. Emerging literature has suggested that in terms of mortality, the global population health burden of physical inactivity approaches that of cigarette smoking. The prevalence and substantial disease risk associated with physical inactivity has been described as a pandemic. The prevalence, health impact, and evidence of changeability all have resulted in calls for action to increase physical activity across the lifespan. In response to the need to find ways to make physical activity a health priority for youth, the Institute of Medicine's Committee on Physical Activity and Physical Education in the School Environment was formed. Its purpose was to review the current status of physical activity and physical education in the school environment, including before, during, and after school, and examine the influences of physical activity and physical education on the short and long term physical, cognitive and brain, and psychosocial health and development of children and adolescents. Educating the Student Body makes recommendations about approaches for strengthening and improving programs and policies for physical activity and physical education in the school environment. This report lays out a set of guiding principles to guide its work on these tasks. These included: recognizing the benefits of instilling life-long physical activity habits in children; the value of using systems thinking in improving physical activity and physical education in the school environment; the recognition of current disparities in opportunities and the need to achieve equity in physical activity and physical education; the importance of considering all types of school environments; the need to take into consideration the diversity of students as recommendations are developed. This report will be of interest to local and national policymakers, school officials, teachers, and the education community, researchers, professional organizations, and parents interested in physical activity, physical education, and health for school-aged children and adolescents.

Book Synopsis Pre-service Physical Education Teachers' Attitudes Toward, and Use Of, Handheld Technology by : Heidi M. Wegis
Download or read book Pre-service Physical Education Teachers' Attitudes Toward, and Use Of, Handheld Technology written by Heidi M. Wegis and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A current trend in educational reform requires teachers to be proficient in employing technology in their classrooms. As a result of this trend, teachers need to be prepared to integrate technology into their teaching, and teacher preparation programs have a responsibility to prepare their students accordingly. The handheld computer (PDA) is a potentially useful way to integrate technology into the classroom. Physical education is a field in which technology can potentially impact the areas of research and classroom teaching. The purpose of this study was to explore pre-service physical education teachers' attitudes toward, and use of, handheld technology and to determine what factors play a role in the decision-making process on whether to use technology. Data collected from surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, and project reflection papers, presented mixed results. Despite the initial interest in integrating technology into their teaching, a decline in interest and opinions followed. Merely using the PDA was not enough to bring full integration and sustained use into their classes.
