Book Synopsis Emerging Capital Markets and Globalization by : Augusto de la Torre
Download or read book Emerging Capital Markets and Globalization written by Augusto de la Torre and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2006-10-20 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Back in the early 1990s, economists and policy makers had high expectations about the prospects for domestic capital market development in emerging economies, particularly in Latin America. Unfortunately, they are now faced with disheartening results. Stock and bond markets remain illiquid and segmented. Debt is concentrated at the short end of the maturity spectrum and denominated in foreign currency, exposing countries to maturity and currency risk. Capital markets in Latin America look particularly underdeveloped when considering the many efforts undertaken to improve the macroeconomic environment and to reform the institutions believed to foster capital market development. The disappointing performance has made conventional policy recommendations questionable, at best. 'Emerging Capital Markets and Globalization' analyzes where we stand and where we are heading on capital market development. First, it takes stock of the state and evolution of Latin American capital markets and related reforms over time and relative to other countries. Second, it analyzes the factors related to the development of capital markets, with particular interest on measuring the impact of reforms. And third, in light of this analysis, it discusses the prospects for capital market development in Latin America and emerging economies and the implications for the reform agenda.

Book Synopsis Stock Market Equilibrium and Macroeconomic Fundamentals by : Mr.Lamin Leigh
Download or read book Stock Market Equilibrium and Macroeconomic Fundamentals written by Mr.Lamin Leigh and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper examines the efficiency of the Stock Exchange of Singapore and the relationship between the stock market and the overall economy. Using a wide range of methods for testing market efficiency, the paper establishes that the Singapore stock market is both “weakly” and “semi-strongly” efficient in asset-pricing terms but not “strongly” efficient. Granger causality tests based on the efficiency test results indicate that developments in the stock market appear to be systematically related to the overall economy in Singapore and can thus serve as a leading indicator of its intertemporal behavior.

Book Synopsis Financial Services in the Twenty-First Century by : John JA Burke
Download or read book Financial Services in the Twenty-First Century written by John JA Burke and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-05 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook covers financial systems and services, particularly focusing on present systems and future developments. Broken into three parts, Part One establishes the public institutional framework in which financial services are conducted, defines financial service systems, critically examines the link between finance, wealth and income inequality, and economic growth, challenges conventional paradigms about the raison d’être of financial institutions and markets, and considers the loss of US financial hegemony to emerging regional entities [BRICS]. Part Two focuses on financial innovation by explaining the impact of the following technologies: cryptography, FinTech, distributed ledger technology, and artificial intelligence. Part Three assesses to what extent financial innovation has disrupted legacy banking and the delivery of financial services, identifies the main obstacles to reconstructing the whole financial system based upon “first principles thinking”: Nation State regulation and incumbent interests of multi-national companies, and provides a cursory description of how the pandemic of COVID-19 may establish a “new normal” for the financial services industry. Combining rigorous detail alongside exercises and PowerPoint slides for each chapter, this textbook helps finance students understand the wide breadth of financial systems and speculates the forthcoming developments in the industry. A website to serve as a companion to the textbook is available here: www.johnjaburke.com.

Book Synopsis The Swing Traders Bible by : Matthew McCall
Download or read book The Swing Traders Bible written by Matthew McCall and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-12-29 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Swing Trader's Bible provides traders with different strategies to capitalize on market fluctuations. The majority of the time, most markets move sideways, with no discernible long-term up or down trend. The key to making money in these kinds of markets is to sell when the market is near the top of its range and buy when it's near the bottom of its range. The authors explain how to use fundamental stock analysis and technical analysis to spot swing trading opportunities. They then provide very specific techniques for entering and exiting the market, including: channel analysis; momentum indicators; stock sector leaders/followers; market cycles; overbought/oversold indicators; trading volume; and money flows. The authors explain how to swing trade by taking outright positions in stocks or by using various options strategies. Most of the book is devoted to swing trading using individual stocks, but the authors also explain swing trading opportunities in stock indexes and in exchange-traded funds.
