Book Synopsis The Routledge Companion to Corporate Social Responsibility by : Thomas Maak
Download or read book The Routledge Companion to Corporate Social Responsibility written by Thomas Maak and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-08-25 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the concept and domain of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) are not new—its beginnings can be tracked back to the 1960s—its scope, urgency, and relevance have shifted dramatically in recent years. CEO responses show that the majority of business leaders understand that they operate in an environment of contested values and that stakeholders expect companies to do better and more. However, many corporate incentive systems are not in sync with societal norms and expectations. Moreover, "grand challenges" such as climate change and global pandemics and growing interconnectedness shed light on the fault lines of value creation through complex supply chain systems, exposing unacceptable working conditions, modern slavery, and the environmental consequences of highly distributed production at any cost. As a consequence, corporate social responsibility has become a widely accepted common denominator of the role and responsibilities of business in society, ranging from core functions such as health, safety, and environment standards, to governance and recognition of stakeholders, supply chain design, and corporations’ stand on climate change and its responsibility to future generations. This volume assembles state-of-the-art scholarship from leading scholars in the field and enables a "full range view" of CSR, from its roots, normative foundations, and institutional perspectives to matters of stakeholding, the global value chain, social innovation, and future directions. The Routledge Companion to Corporate Social Responsibility represents a prestige reference work providing an overview of the subject area of CSR for academics, researchers, postgraduate students, as well as reflective practitioners.

Book Synopsis European Yearbook of International Economic Law 2015 by : Christoph Herrmann
Download or read book European Yearbook of International Economic Law 2015 written by Christoph Herrmann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-04 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This sixth volume (2015) of the European Yearbook of International Economic Law puts a particular emphasis on non-tariff barriers (NTBs) to trade and the world trade order. With the steady reduction of tariff rates since the GATT 47 came into force, focus in recent years has been on the vast and complex landscape of non-tariff barriers to trade. States as well as scholars seemingly struggle with the multitude of measures pooled under this expression as there is no single, acknowledged definition of the term, and its relation to the term “non-tariff measures” remains equally blurred. Particularly in practice and on a multilateral level, there appears to be some awkwardness when it comes to coping with NTBs since multilateral trade rules seem to be in conflict with national regulatory autonomy in the pursuit of policy objectives. In part one, this volume sheds light on the problems of non-tariff barriers to trade that arise in various fields. Part two focuses on regional integration with an emphasis on relations between East Asia and the European Union. In this regard, the authors outline the trade and investment relations between the European Union and East Asia, including Japan, Korea and Singapore. Part three offers an overview of recent institutional developments in WIPO, ICSID, WTO and WTO jurisprudence. Part four includes book reviews of recent works in the field of international economic law, and part five introduces a new section on publications in the field of international economic law that were released in 2013 and 2014.

Book Synopsis Corporate Sustainability in International Comparison by : Stefan Schaltegger
Download or read book Corporate Sustainability in International Comparison written by Stefan Schaltegger and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-11 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although every country is distinguished by its history, culture and language as well as its unique economic, environmental and social conditions, it can be expected that international operating companies will exhibit common patterns since sustainability challenges do not stop at national borders. Building on original data based on results of the International Corporate Sustainability Barometer survey, this book depicts and analyzes the current state of corporate sustainability management and corporate social responsibility. Part I describe the approach and summarizes the broad results, outlining the methodology and offering an overview of results of the ICSB survey. Part II presents specific findings for each of eleven countries surveyed: Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the USA. Part III provides a comparative analysis and highlights broad patterns in the international results. Most strikingly, the book reveals surprisingly widespread similarities among the sustainability management practices of large companies in economically developed countries all over the world. All the survey results are analyzed according to the same Triple-I approach: Intention - Why do companies manage sustainability?; Integration - To what extent do companies embed sustainability in their core business and in their organization? And Implementation - How is corporate sustainability operationalized? Based on this structure the analysis serves not only to make comparisons and to investigate national characteristics; it also builds a foundation for examining whether there truly is a world-spanning common state of the art of corporate sustainability. Distinguished authors who were involved in the International Corporate Sustainability Barometer project offer their insights, identifying and discussing national and international patterns that can provide the basis for further ideas and inspiration to practitioners and researchers worldwide who are engaged in corporate sustainability.
Book Synopsis UN Global Compacts by : Nicholas R. Micinski
Download or read book UN Global Compacts written by Nicholas R. Micinski and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-04-28 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: UN Global Compacts is a concise introduction to the key concepts, issues, and actors in global migration governance and presents a comprehensive analysis of the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants, the Global Compact on Refugees, and the Global Compact for Migration. The book places the declaration and compacts within their historical context, traces the evolution of global migration governance, and evaluates the implementation of the compacts. Ultimately, the global compacts were the result of three wider shifts in global governance from hard to soft law, from rights to aid, and from Cold War politics to nationalism. The book is an important contribution to international relations and migration studies and provides essential information on the NY declaration and the global compacts, in addition to an examination of the: • Negotiating blocs and strategies • Populist backlash to the Global Compact for Migration • Responsibility sharing for refugee protection • Human rights of migrants • Principle of non-refoulement • Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework • UNHCR, IOM, and the UN Network on Migration The book will be of interest to practitioners, students, and scholars of international cooperation, global governance, migrants, and refugees, and will be essential reading for graduate and undergraduate courses on international law, international organizations, and migration.
