Book excerpt: The text of this book reveals the fact that because of poverty in our world, theres a desire for every being to accumulate material possessions; therefore, the temptation to pursue this cause of action can never be underestimated regardless of our belief in the Lord God. Regardless of the desire to be wealthy, however, many believers still ascertain the fact that poverty must be encouraged as part of our faith in Jesus Christ our Lord. They support the argument from the biblical text thus: For, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God (Luke 18:25). Conversely, other believers assert that God does not refute richness and therefore also affirms their belief with the biblical verse that says in the Proverbs 22:7 that the rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. In Ecclesiastes 5:19 we hear further thus: When God gives any man a wealth and possessions and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his workthis is a gift of God. Furthermore we hear from 1 Samuel 2:7 that the Lord makes poor and makes rich; he brings low and he exalts. These biblical verses indicate the fact that God raises both the rich and the poor. The Good News Bible (in giant print) expands this verse to mean the Lord makes some men poor and others rich; He humbles some and makes others great (1 Sam. 2:7). Deducing from these texts, we can come to some kind of understanding that further reflection on both sides of the arguments is fundamentally in demand for an in-depth illumination of how to live within the grace of the Living God.

Book excerpt: God doesn't bless us to raise our standard of living. God blesses us to raise our standard of giving, and that's where true joy is found. The New York Times bestselling author of Chase the Lion challenges us not to settle for half of what God offers when it comes to blessings—we are BLESSED to BLESS. His discovery started with a simple experiment. Whenever Batterson received a blessing, he would give a similar blessing away. If someone paid him a compliment or gave him a gift or went out of their way to help him, he would return the favor by doing something similar for someone else. We flip the blessing by blessing others in the way God has blessed us. That’s how the blessing becomes a double blessing. It turns giving into a game—one we can’t win because God will always outgive us! It’s an ancient truth found within the Abrahamic covenant: “I will bless you . . . and you will be a blessing.” In other words, we are blessed to bless. The first blessing is receiving, but it doesn’t end there. The second blessing is giving it away! That’s the double blessing. And that’s where double joy is found. In a day and age where the idea of blessing has been reduced to a hashtag (#blessed), Batterson challenges readers to pursue true, God-glorifying blessing and experience an exponential impact by participating in the double blessing. Don’t settle for half of what God offers. Discover how you can both get it and give it . . . in Double Blessing. This edition includes discussion questions!

Book excerpt: Over 100,000 copies sold! Quit playing it safe and start running toward the roar! When the image of a man-eating beast travels through the optic nerve and into the visual cortex, the brain sends the body a simple but urgent message: run away! That’s what normal people do, but not lion chasers. Rather than seeing a five-hundred-pound problem, they see an opportunity for God to show up and show His power. Chase the Lion is more than a catch phrase; it’s a radically different approach to life. It’s only when we stop fearing failure that we can fully seize opportunity by the mane. With grit and gusto, New York Times best-selling author Mark Batterson delivers a bold message to everyone with a big dream. This is a wake-up call to stop living as if the purpose of life was to simply arrive safely at death. Our dreams should scare us. They should be so big that without God they would be impossible to achieve. Quit running away from what you’re afraid of. Chase the lion! Change the world! What is your five-hundred-pound dream? In this highly anticipated sequel to his best-selling In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day, Mark Batterson invites lion chasers everywhere to chase dreams so impossible that victory demands we face our fears, defy the odds, and hold tight to God. These are the kind of dreams that will make you a bigger person and the world a better place. Based upon 2 Samuel 23, Chase the Lion tells the true story of an ancient warrior named Benaiah who chased a lion into a pit on a snowy day—and then killed it. For most people, that situation wouldn’t just be a problem…it would be the last problem they ever faced. For Benaiah, it was an opportunity to step into his destiny. After defeating the lion, he landed his dream job as King David’s bodyguard and eventually became commander-in-chief of Israel’s army under King Solomon. Written in a way that both challenges and encourages, this revolutionary book will help unleash the faith and courage you need to identify, chase, and catch the five-hundred-pound dreams in your life.

Deep down, none of us desire to suffer bondage or intentionally act against the will of God. To avert the danger of something or someone becoming an idol, and to fight any idol that besets us, we must resist that object of our obsession and put it in its rightful place. As idolatry has engulfed us, are we, Western Christians ready to stand in Christ in the face of increasing hostility towards Christianity? Can the secular world see a difference in our daily lives; in the living out of our faith? Hijacked! Idols in Disguise explores the snares that have mesmerized and captivated Western Christians. Consider what redemption would look like if our choices were imbued by a concern for Kingdom values; contrition, confession, repentance, and reconciliation leads to spiritual healing and renews our faith commitment to Christ. Meet the Idol Slayer and join in the journey to breaking the strongholds, to falling in love with God again; standing firm in faith, and proclaiming the Kingdom of God by example and love.

Book excerpt: Winner of the 2017 Illumination Award Jacqueline Bussie knows that too many Christians live according to unspoken “laws” that govern the Christian life: #1: Never get angry at God; #2: Never doubt; #3: Never question; #4: Never tell your real story; #5: Always speak in clichés about evil and suffering; and #6: Always believe hope comes easy for those who truly love God. Living according to these rules is killing real Christian life; Outlaw Christian proposes a rebellious, life-giving, authentic alternative. Through captivating stories and with disarming honesty, Bussie gives concrete, practical strategies to help readers cultivate hope, seek joy, practice accompaniment, compost their pain, and rediscover the spiritual practice of lament. Tackling difficult questions without political divisiveness, Bussie speaks to both progressive and conservative Christians in ways that unite rather than divide. And in doing so, she provides a new way to handle the most difficult and troubling questions of life in a broken world that God will never abandon.

Sarah is undisputedly the matriarch of the nation of Israel even though she bore only one son, the son of promise. Her tenure is followed by Rebekah, who had two sons; only one received the promise. Leah, the third matriarch, bore six sons and Jacob’s only daughter. But she was the first wife and was, no doubt, influential in raising Rachel’s two boys, as well as the boys of the servant wives. Asenath is included in this numbering. Given that her husband received the double blessing, her two sons are tribes: Ephraim and Manasseh. Each of the mothers had very different personalities and backgrounds. Each had influence in her time and has wisdom to share with believers of our day.

Book excerpt: A Prophet's Ministry is based on personal life experiences. I give testimony as well as explanation on several reasons why the Holy Spirit wants to speak to us today. I, by precept and example, demonstrate why we have need of the Holy Spirit in our everyday life. You will find encouragement through my testimony on how God worked on my behalf through the leading of His Spirit. How He led me from failures to great successes. I demonstrate systematic growth as I show how Jesus led me from a being a layman to a minister of the gospel, how He encouraged me by working his miracles, signs and wonders. Then He performed those same miracles, signs, and wonders through me for the benefit of others as Jesus walked me through the ministry. I reveal shocking testimony as examples of how the prophet's ministry functions. Bill was born in Detroit and raised in the Great Lake area of Michigan. He was baptized Catholic and became born again in a Catholic charismatic prayer meeting in 1975. He converted to the Christian faith. In 1986, he was ordained as an evangelist in a Pentecostal Prophet Church. Through God's interventions, he moved to California with his wife and twin boys in 1979. Over the years, he ministered in many churches through out the U.S.A., teaching many pastors and teachers who still function to this day. Today Bill resides in Yucaipa, CA with his wife, Connie, and currently volunteers as a part time Hospice Chaplain. He also ministers prophecy wherever the Spirit wills.
