Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roland Allen is renowned for his original solutions to dilemmas about mission. His principal works were written in the opening decades of the twentieth century, yet his radical ideas still resound in today's church. The Ministry of the Spirit brings together some of his shorter pieces which have long been unavailable, enabling today's readers to delve deeper into Allen's ideas. Among them are "Pentecost and the World," "Non-Professional Missionaries," "Mission Activities," and an abbreviation of "The Case for Voluntary Clergy." The writings collected in The Ministry of the Spirit sit with Allen's better-known work and are no less penetrating and suggestive for the mission of the church. Allen's fundamental belief in centrality of the work of the Holy Spirit to Church life shapes his conclusion. As Professor Lamin Sanneh says in his Foreword: it is 'hard to believe that Allen first broached these ideas nearly a hundred years ago, for they are so redolent with contemporary meaning.'Roland Allen's experience as a missionary in North China led him to re-assess radically the missionary principles of the Western churches. His work, recognized as prophetic even in his own lifetime, has taken on a new significance in the third Christian millennium.

Book excerpt: This book offers a critique of common spiritual warfare practices including binding Satan, renouncing curses, spiritual mapping and exorcisms. Using Scripture, and Scripture alone, Pastor Jim Osman shows that true spiritual warfare is not a battle over territory, but a battle for the truth. The book is divided into four sections: Establishing Biblical Principles, Exposing Unbiblical Practices, Explaining Biblical Perspectives and Examining a Biblical Passage. A biblical approach to spiritual warfare recognizes the Bible as the sole authority, rejects unbiblical and man-made methods, and rests in Christ and His finished work for victory. Many in the modern spiritual warfare movement teach a methodology of spiritual warfare that is more akin to something you would find in a Harry Potter novel (renouncing curses and using prayer mantras to seize territory) than anything described in Scripture. Many of these practices reflect a theology built on anecdotes, experience, and interviews with demons rather than a sound exegesis of Scripture. Footnoted quotations of authors like Mark Bubeck, Neil T. Anderson, and others are compared against Scripture to show that modern spiritual warfare "experts" have abandoned the authority of Scripture and opted for man-made methods to wage spiritual battle. The chapters include a study of the three enemies that every Christian faces: the world, the flesh, and the devil. Pastor Osman answers from Scripture the questions: Can a Christian be demon-possessed? Is Christ's authority ours? and, What about exorcisms? One chapter includes a helpful discussion of the link between spiritual warfare and a believer's sanctification. The foreword is written by international conference speaker Justin Peters (justinpeters.org). This book is being published as an e-book as a fundraiser to finish the new church building of Kootenai Community Church (www.kootenaichurch.org) of which Jim is one of the pastors. All the proceeds go the building fund for the completion of that project. You can see regular updates at http: //www.truthorterritory.com .

Every individual must be given the opportunity to choose between life and death. This volume is a call to action-a plea for believers to work for their Savior by bringing the gospel to the millions of people in the city, strategies, methods, selecting and training workers, and lessons from Scripture. Yes, the work will require much effort, especially in our day and age. But Ellen G. White doesnÆt mince words: ôDo not hover over the churches to repeat over and over again the same truths to the people, while the cities are left in ignorance and sin, unwarned and unlabored forö (The Upward Look, p. 274). Book excerpt: Lesslie Newbigin, one of the twentieth century's most important church leaders, offered insights on the church in a pluralistic world that are arguably more relevant now than when first written. This volume presents his ecclesiology to a new generation. Michael Goheen clearly articulates Newbigin's missionary understanding of the church and places it in the context of Newbigin's core theological convictions. Suitable for students as well as church leaders, this book offers readers a better understanding of the mission of the church in the world today. Foreword by N. T. Wright.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1913, Missionary Principles is a classic textbook by genre, but in its controversial evaluation of the Church's missionary theories, it is by no means wholly traditional. At the centre of this discursive study, Allen asserts the distinction which needs to be made in missionary aims between the extension of the Church and the preaching of Jesus Christ. The book is divided into four major chapters, entitled: The Impulse, The Hope, The Means and The Reaction. The impulse, hope and means of missionary work can all be embodied by Jesus Christ, who is viewed as the source, the end and the worker. It is always with this objective in mind that Allen guides the reader through Christ's wishes as to how the Word should be spread. In the final chapter, Allen examines the results of believing in the Holy Spirit's inspiration and the effects this has on the missionary's understanding of moral purpose and motive of missions, both at home and overseas.'It is not the same thing to seek the manifestation of Christ in the growth of the Church, and [...] the effect of that upon all missionary work is most profound.'Extract from Chapter Two.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Young Missionary: Exemplified in the Life of Timothy Tms little volume, though written with a more particular reference to the young, is yet intended for persons of all ages. A crisis has arrived in the history of the church; and unless the apostolic or true missionary spirit can be made to prevail to a greater extent than it now does, fearful results await her. We know, indeed, that she is founded on a rock, and that the gates of hell can never wholly prevail. But we know, at the same time, that she may be subjected to severe, yea, tremendous trials; and may be driven, for a time, into the wilderness. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having served the Lord for thirty years in full-time ministry, Kim Weiler has witnessed miraculous and life-changing events. True Confessions of a Missionary is a collection of personal testimonies written to help others overcome the enemy, build their faith, and bring glory to the King of Kings. Each chapter tells the true stories of men and women forever changed by Jesus’ love and power. Physical healings, spiritual deliverance, and powerful conversions are documented and attested to by more than one person, fulfilling the words of scripture in Matthew 18:16 that every matter be established by two or more witnesses. True Confessions of a Missionary is about giving glory to an awesome, personal God who wants to be involved in the lives of His children. The author prays that those who read it will be encouraged to pursue a deeper, more intimate relationship with our Abba Father and step out and share their testimony with a world that is lost without Him.
