The following discourse has formed two theories attempting to define Islam and the role of Jihad in Islam. The first is that of the apologists that define Jihad as an internal struggle; the second sponsors the concept of offensive Jihad. In this book, existing theories are deconstructed to establish that there is no such thing as offensive Jihad or internal Jihad. Debunking both branches of political thought was possible using a cognition tool derived from the education system instituted by the Prophet Muhammad, the central figure of this controversy. The deconstruction is then followed up with an examination of an actual historical case, vis. the wars for Islam at the time of The Prophet as well as during the four rightly guided Caliphs. By doing so, this book systematically eliminates all confusion regarding Jihad. Many assumptions about the military jihad and martyrdom in Islam are thereby challenged and deconstructed. A comprehensive interrogation of varied sources reveals early and multiple competing definitions of a word that in combination with the phrase fi sabil Allah translates literally to "striving in the path of God." Contemporary radical Islamists have appropriated this language to exhort their cadres to armed political opposition, which they legitimize under the rubric of jihad. In 1984 the Islamic government of Pakistan set aside all Islamic injuctions and took upon itself the burden of depriving the Ahmadi Muslims of many basic human rights including religious social freedoms. In an attempt to justify this action, the government of Pakistan published a so-called White Paper under the title ‘Qadiyaniyyat – Islam kay liya Sangin Khatrah‘ (Qadiyaniyyat – A Grave Threat to Islam). Although there was nothing new in this so-called White Paper and the Jama’at literature already included detailed answers to all the issues which were raised, nevertheless Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad, Khalifatul-Masih IV, the then Imam of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, answered these allegations in a series of Friday sermons. These sermons (in Urdu) were published by the London Mosque in 1985 and the English translation is now being published. Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad, Khalifatul-Masih IV(rta) delivered this sermon on March 15, 1985 at the Fazl Mosque London. It deals with the allegation that the Ahmadis are (God forbid) agents of Israel. It points out that, as commanded by the Holy Qur’an and exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad(sas), Ahmadis have been actively spreading the message of Islam all over the world, including Israel. It also gives detail about the glorious services rendered by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at during the tragedy of the Palestinian Muslims.
