Book excerpt: The Bible tells us that all are sinners in need of a Savior. Sin, therefore, does not discriminate between different Christians and their religious denominations. The content of this book represents over thirty years of personal experience, research, observation, study, and prayer; in an effort to demonstrate through the Bible, and through history, that "The One True Church" is not an institutional church or a specific religious denomination, but rather all true believers who belong to the "Body of Christ." Today, many Catholics and non-Catholics alike, struggle to understand Catholic traditions, from a Biblical perspective. Over the centuries the Catholic Church has evolved into a complex religious organization of beliefs, rules, rituals, and requirements; described as "speculative and mystical theology," by a leading Catholic apologist, who says that most Catholics do not fully understand, and can't explain their faith to others. This book can be a useful resource for these and others, who have an interest in understanding what Catholics teach and what Protestants believe. - From the Prologue Joe Weller was born in 1945 into a working class family in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and spent his childhood in the South, in an era when Catholics were a minority, and there was an overt prejudice against blacks, Jews, and Catholics. Joe spent twelve years in the Catholic parochial school system, and later in life was a member of a number of parishes in Memphis, Miami, Dallas, and Los Angeles. Joe shares what he has learned over the last thirty years in his educational journey from the traditions and history of Catholicism, to the teachings of the Bible in; The One True Church: A Biblical Perspective on Catholic Tradition and History. Joe's desire is to encourage all those interested in this subject to take their own educational journey through the pages of Scripture, to experience God's amazing truth for themselves.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The True Church A STUDY Historical and Scriptural By ALLEN MACY DULLES, D. D. Professor of Theism and Apologetics in the Auburn Theological Seminary NEW YORK CHICAGO TORONTO Fleming H. Revell Company LONDON AND EDINBURGH PREFACE THIS book is but an argument. It makes no pre tense to furnish Information concerning The Church, which may be found in such admirable works as those of Hatch and Hort and T. M. Lindsay, representing the evangelic notion of The Church or the more recent works of Darwell Stone and Durell, represent ing the Anglo-Catholic opinion. The substance of the book was given as lectures to the students of the Auburn Theological Seminary and it is published to meet in some measure the need of any who may wish to see some of the facts concerning The Church arranged so as to be better able to answer sophistical questions such as, who has authority to give sacred bread A. J. Mason and the constantly reiterated statement that in order to have authority from above a minister must be in supposed apostolic succession. It is a criticism of the catholic position of which Gore and Moberly have been such ardent defenders, that The Church has been from the beginning a society with a divinely appointed succession of those who are in holy orders. 11 The author feels that the churches are in danger to day of returning to an ecclesiasticism which has, in the past, limited Christian liberty and corrupted Christian service. 6409853 6 Preface The criticism of ecclesiasticism of the catholic kind is keenly pointed by Oman Faith and Freedom, p. 322, The Person of Jesus loses all real signifi cance as soon as we interpret Him mainly as the Founder of an outwardly authoritative institution. Ritschl wrote in 1859 Studien und Kritikeri There is need of this apologetic justification of the evangelic concept of The Church because false de terminations or measures of what The Church is are to-day current within evangelical Christendom. There is not less need to-day. A concept of The Church which excludes the Quaker, Fox and the leader of the Salvation Army, William Booth must be, can be, shown to be false. This is our purpose, to state and defend the evan gelic concept of The Church, not to show that any one form of church government is better or worse than another. While the author would have gladly given time, if he had had it, to make his little book more perfect, both as to matter and form and to remove defects of which he is probably as conscious as any reader yet such as it is, he dedicates it to the service of The Church which is, indeed, the Bride of Christ, and to the churches which are the existence-centres of that Church on earth, in the hope that the churches may more and more come to a unity of faith and hope and love, and so to an outward unity free from inner an tagonisms. Book excerpt: When Jesus Christ founded the New Testament Church, He said the gates of hell would not prevail against it. He prophesied of seven successive eras it would undergo before His Second Coming, and even foretold the predominant character of each. History shows that God's true Church—though it has gone largely unnoticed—has survived through the 20 centuries since that time, fulfilling Christ's prophecies in specific detail. Now, on the cusp of Christ's return, this dramatic and miraculous story can be fully told!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is a practical manual of everything our church did," says author Molly Phinney Baskette, "to reverse our death spiral and become the healthy, stable, spirited and robust community it is today—evident in the large percentage of children and young adults in our church, and a sixfold increase in pledged giving in the last decade." "Real Good Church" is a testament to Baskette's and First Church Somerville UCC's success, and a gift of hope for all churches that find themselves struggling to keep their doors open. What makes "Real Good Church" unique in the field of church growth books? It's practical. It actually tells churches what they can do—and how to do it. It offers beginning and intermediary steps for growth and renewal. Churches, no matter what situation they're in, will be able to jump in and get to work. It has a sense of humor. Baskette's easygoing, often self-deprecating writing style and approachable strategies will empower the reader and their church to revitalize itself. (If her church could do it, we can, too!)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you have a nagging feeling that something's missing from your church experience? You're not alone. And it's time to discover a better way. Church-reform advocate and Bible scholar Peter DeHaan, PhD is a strong proponent of meaningful Christian community. In Jesus's Broken Church he uses Scripture to guide us into right practices and away from the off-track customs that most every church adheres to. The problem is that today's church follows an Old Testament model. We go to a building where we have professional clergy serve as our liaison between us and God. Then we pay for the whole thing with our tithes and offerings—just like Moses instructed. But Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament. Through him we are the church, we are living stones. We don't need to go to a building. As the church, we take it with us wherever we go. And we don't need paid clergy either. Each of us serves as priests to one another. Or at least we should. In Jesus's Broken Church, you'll discover: - How Jesus moves us from an Old Testament understanding to New Testament enlightenment - The early church's approach to their meetings, which we neglect to follow today - Essential New Testament practices that are more important than song and sermon - Biblical ideas to inform the activities of our spiritual communities - Seven religious concepts that require reformation If you happen to like how your church functions, then don't buy this book. It will only make you mad. But if you sometimes leave your Sunday service feeling let down, that something is lacking and there must be more, then this book can guide you into a new direction. Get your copy of Jesus's Broken Church today to discover what's missing and how to fix it.
