Download or read book Trowbridge Road written by Marcella Pixley and published by Candlewick Press. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a stunning novel set in the 1980s, a girl with heavy secrets awakens her sleepy street to the complexities of love and courage. It’s the summer of ’83 on Trowbridge Road, and June Bug Jordan is hungry. Months after her father’s death from complications from AIDS, her mother has stopped cooking and refuses to leave the house, instead locking herself away to scour at the germs she believes are everywhere. June Bug threatens this precarious existence by going out into the neighborhood, gradually befriending an imaginative boy who is living with his Nana Jean after experiencing troubles of his own. But as June Bug’s connection to the world grows stronger, her mother’s grows more distant — even dangerous — pushing June Bug to choose between truth and healing and the only home she has ever known. Trowbridge Road paints an unwavering portrait of a girl and her family touched by mental illness and grief. Set in the Boston suburbs during the first years of the AIDS epidemic, the novel explores how a seemingly perfect neighborhood can contain restless ghosts and unspoken secrets. Written with deep insight and subtle lyricism by acclaimed author Marcella Pixley, Trowbridge Road demonstrates our power to rescue one another even when our hearts are broken.

Download or read book Twenty-Two written by Allison Trowbridge and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2017-04-04 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the course of twenty-two letters, author Allison Trowbridge addresses a wide range of practical issues and ties them to larger concerns such as identity, loss, social impact as a lifestyle, wisdom in the ordinary moments, and the profound way God’s work is realized in how we live every day. Subtly weaving in today’s pressing social concerns—from poverty in our neighborhoods to human trafficking across the globe—Twenty-Two will inspire a greater sense of mission and a passion to live more fully as young women embark on their own remarkable journeys. Allison Trowbridge harnesses the power of story in a series of letters to an imagined young woman wrestling with the questions that arise as she stands on the precipice of adulthood. Never in history has a young woman had so many options before her, yet never has she had less direction or guidance on what to do with them. A woman at the precipice of adulthood often finds herself with more questions than answers, with more disenchantment than direction. How is she supposed to “lean in” to a successful career while also building deeply meaningful relationships? How can she care for the community around her while simultaneously developing a global mindset and changing the world? How can she be all that she is destined to be without feeling paralyzed by the pressure of so many prospects? Allison Trowbridge knows this dilemma well. She remembers stepping into her twenties and wishing for a mentor to guide her through this dizzying season of life. In Twenty-Two, she becomes the mentor she was looking for. Drawing from her own experience and from the wisdom of others, she offers advice and counsel in a series of personal letters to “Ashley,” a fictional college student looking for mentorship from someone one step ahead in life.

Book Synopsis Delaware Indian Language of 1824 by : Charles Christopher Trowbridge
Download or read book Delaware Indian Language of 1824 written by Charles Christopher Trowbridge and published by Evolution Publishing & Manufacturing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1823, a man named Charles C. Trowbridge went to Indiana Territory on an assignment from Governor Lewis Cass of the Michigan Territory. His mission was to obtain the answers to a list of questions pertaining to the Lenape or Delaware language. After only two and a half months, Trowbridge collected over 280 pages of handwritten information, making the first full-fledged treatment of Southern Unami, the dialect spoken by the two groups still existing in Oklahoma today. This is the dialect of Lenape that was spoken in the southern half of New Jersey, southeastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware. After almost two centuries, Delaware Indian language scholar James A. Rementer has now edited and published Trowbridge's extremely thorough study in full. With well over a hundred pages devoted to verb forms alone, and extended word-by-word analyses of texts such as the Lord's Prayer and common phrases, Trowbridge's work serves not only as a detailed grammar but also as an invaluable cultural record from a time when the Lenape community was on its journey from the Mid-Atlantic toward the west. Rementer's extensive introductory material puts in context the historical forces that went into producing this text, with a biography of Captain Pipe, one of Trowbridge's main Indian informants. Contributions by Lenape scholar Bruce Pearson and Timothy Crumrin round out the picture with biographies of Trowbridge himself and William Conner.

Book excerpt: Ask the right questions and the answers will always reveal themselves. Oprah Winfrey You have to be quick to beat Larry King to the punch with a question. His life and livelihood has been based on questions. He worked his way up as an unknown quantity from Brooklyn, NY to become one of the best-known interviewers of high-profile public figures in the world. He does not typically ask complex questions, but instead, he asks thoughtful and straightforward questions which reveal information that would be interesting and meaningful to his audience. His coverage of the media over the years has included radio, newspapers and TV. Born to immigrant parents as Lawrence Leibel Harvey Zeiger, he started his media career with the stage name, Larry King. His story of working his way up the ladder of success is a classic one. He harnessed his passion and his needs to a workhorse mentality and overcame numerous obstacles on the way. And speaking of questions, he is joined in this book by a variety of other CelebrityExperts(R) who have climbed the ladder of achievement. They also have asked their own questions - and found the answers in order to accomplish their own goals. Asking questions is an art that is learned from an early age to help us get what we want. As we get older, our questions become more difficult to answer and our goals harder to achieve. In order to succeed, we invariably find that our fastest solutions come from the guidance we get from those, like the CelebrityExperts(R) in this book who have already been there, by asking them the right questions. In your case, what is The Big Question? I love doing what I do. I love asking questions. I love being in the mix. Larry King
