Book excerpt: Profound reflections on the cross that help you to meditate on and marvel at the sacrificial love of Jesus. This book can be used as a devotional, especially during Lent and Easter. These profound reflections on the cross from David Mathis, author of The Christmas We Didn’t Expect, will help you to meditate on and marvel at Jesus’ life, sacrificial death, and spectacular resurrection-enabling you to treasure anew who Jesus is and what he has done. Many of us are so familiar with the Easter story that it becomes easy to miss subtle details and difficult to really enjoy its meaning. This book will help you to pause and marvel at Jesus, whose now-glorified wounds are a sign of his unfailing love and the decisive victory that he has won: “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) This book can be used as a devotional. The chapters on Holy Week make it especially helpful during the Lent season and at Easter.

Book Synopsis The Triumph Over The Mediocre Self by : Dr. Talib Kafaji
Download or read book The Triumph Over The Mediocre Self written by Dr. Talib Kafaji and published by Author House. This book was released on 2013-08 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Normally, we come to the world from parents who are not educated in the way they raise us. Often, our parents dump their pathology on us, and keep us struggling in our lives to free ourselves from such burdens. Following that, we enter the outside world and we observe a lot of dysfunctions in society. We then continue to sail through the journey of our lives with painful dysfunctions. We become confused, frustrated, less happy, and disappointed in ourselves and in the world around us, because we have not being taught or guided to discover who we are, and to know our true essence. We have not been provided the right tools to manage our lives effectively. The way we learned to do things is merely trial and error. Furthermore, among all other species, human beings take longer to be independent from parents or caregivers. We need more time to mature so we can rely on ourselves. Therefore, a book such as this can be useful to guide us through the labyrinth of our lives.
Book Synopsis With a Mighty Triumph! by : Rhett P. Dodson
Download or read book With a Mighty Triumph! written by Rhett P. Dodson and published by . This book was released on 2021-02-15 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the bedrock of the Christian faith. Without it, the truth claims of Christianity crumble. But not only is the resurrection of Jesus true and historically verifiable, it is also the foundation of the believer's hope for the future. Those in Christ will be raised from the dead in the new creation. The apostle Paul's argument in 1 Corinthians 15 for the historical resurrection of Christ and the future resurrection of Christians is one of the most momentous theological treatises in the New Testament. This series of studies, With A Mighty Triumph!, carefully leads readers through Paul's discussion and examines its inner logic, theological content, and practical application. While not shying away from the difficult subjects of baptism for the dead and the nature of the resurrection body, its main focus is on the hope Christ's resurrection offers to all who believe.

Download or read book Christus Victor written by Gustaf Aulen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2003-09-05 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gustaf Aulen's classic work, 'Christus Victor', has long been a standard text on the atonement. Aulen applies history of ideas' methodology to historical theology in tracing the development of three views of the atonement. Aulen asserts that in traditional histories of the doctrine of the atonement only two views have usually been presented, the objective/Anselmian and the subjective/Aberlardian views. According to Aulen, however, there is another type of atonement doctrine in which Christ overcomes the hostile powers that hold humanity in subjection, at the same time that God in Christ reconciles the world to Himself. This view he calls the "classic" idea of the atonement. Because of its predominance in the New Testament, in patristic writings, and in the theology of Luther, Aulen holds that the classic type may be called the distinctively Christian idea of the atonement.
Book Synopsis Petrarch, Laura, and the Triumphs by : Aldo S. Bernardo
Download or read book Petrarch, Laura, and the Triumphs written by Aldo S. Bernardo and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1974-01-01 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book, by the renowned Petrarch scholar, remains an important basic study of the poetry, particularly of Laura. Bernardo discusses the major critics of Petrarch's Laura (DeSanctis, Croce), then devotes two chapters (26-87) to the figure of Laura in the Canzoniere and the Latin works. Seven chapters discuss the poetic image of Laura in the Triumphs, historically, critically, and contextually, the last focussing on Laura as nova figura, not allegory. It belongs in every library ad on every Petrarchist's shelf."
