Book Synopsis Old-Earth Creationism on Trail by : Tim Chaffey
Download or read book Old-Earth Creationism on Trail written by Tim Chaffey and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2008-07-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Twenty-somethings once faithfully attended church. What made them stop? While most said they still believe that the Bible is God's Word, they also said that the idea that the earth is millions of years old was one thing that caused them to doubt the bible? The crumbling foundation of the church takes a devastating toll on future generations. Therefore, churches must reclaim the historical truth found in Genesis and apply the Bible's authority to every area of life." -Ken Ham, President Answers in Genesis As the modern Church struggles to find a place of relevancy for a new generation that already has massive demands on its time and attention, more and more young people raised in the Church are leaving it - failing to find the answers to their questions of faith and life, beset with doubts raised by issues that the Church chooses not to address. Opting to skirt the controversy of Genesis as literal history, the biblical authority of the Holy Word is called into question and reduced to a collection of mere stories. More popularly considered an issue for schools or in the public realm, the conflicting views on the age of the earth also remain a pivotal issue within the Church - as it has for over two centuries. Was the Creation week literally six days? Does science really point to an old earth? Does the issue really matter for Christians? Should this issue even be discussed within the Church? Join authors Dr. Jason Lisle and Tim Chaffey as they put forth a case against an old-earth interpretation of Scripture. A comprehensive biblical, theological, and scientific critique of old-earth creationism, the book presents its compelling testimony in layman's terms to create a powerful debate that leads to unquestionable truth.

Book Synopsis Has Science Found God? by : Victor J. Stenger
Download or read book Has Science Found God? written by Victor J. Stenger and published by Prometheus Books. This book was released on 2009-12-02 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past few years a number of scientists have claimed that there is credible scientific evidence for the existence of God. In 1998 Newsweek went so far as to proclaim on its cover, "Science Finds God." Is this true? Are scientists close to solving the greatest of all mysteries? Physicist Victor J. Stenger delves into this fascinating question from a skeptical point of view in this lucid and engrossing presentation of the key scientific facts. Stenger critically reviews the attempts of many contemporary theologians and some scientists to resurrect failed natural theologies in new guises. Whether these involve updated arguments from design, "anthropic" coincidences, or modern forms of deism, Stenger clearly shows that nothing in modern science requires supernatural explanation. He offers naturalistic explanations for empirical observations that are frequently given theistic interpretations: for example, that information in the universe implies an intelligent designer, that a universe with a beginning requires a Creator, and that the elegant laws of physics suggest a transcendent realm. He shows that alleged spiritual, nonmaterial phenomena do not lie beyond the experimental reach of physics. This thorough and careful consideration of scientific evidence covers much ground yet remains accessible and highly informative to the educated lay reader.

Book Synopsis Eyewitness to Genocide by : Michael Bryant
Download or read book Eyewitness to Genocide written by Michael Bryant and published by Univ. of Tennessee Press. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1950s, the policy of the West German law courts was to limit the number of Germans who could be prosecuted for crimes against humanity during the Nazi era, thereby preserving the old state elites who had been accomplices to the Nazi regime, among them the judiciary, 90% of whom had been Nazi party members. The number of Nazi criminals prosecuted in West Germany dropped throughout the 1950s. The Einsatzgruppen trial at Ulm in 1958 showed that many Nazi criminals held positions in the Federal Republic's administration. An investigation of the Nazi death camps was initiated by the Ludwigsburg Office in 1959. Focuses on three trials against former staff members of three camps: the Bełżec trial held in München in 1963-64; the Treblinka trial held in Düsseldorf in 1964-65; and the Sobibór trial in Hagen in 1964-65. Contends that despite their sometimes doubtful past, the trial judges acted in good faith within the bounds of West German law. The prosecutors based their cases on eyewitness testimonies. The Bełżec trial proved to be a debacle (all of the defendants but one were acquitted), primarily because only one survivor was found to testify. In Treblinka and Sobibór, successful uprisings of prisoners in 1943 helped many of them to survive and later to give evidence at the respective trials; at these trials, most of the defendants were convicted.
Book Synopsis Four Views on Creation, Evolution, and Intelligent Design by : Zondervan,
Download or read book Four Views on Creation, Evolution, and Intelligent Design written by Zondervan, and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2017-11-21 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evolution--or the broader topic of origins--has enormous relevance to how we understand the Christian faith and how we interpret Scripture. Four Views on Creation, Evolution, and Intelligent Design presents the current "state of the conversation" about origins among evangelicals representing four key positions: Young Earth Creationism - Ken Ham (Answers in Genesis) Old Earth (Progressive) Creationism - Hugh Ross (Reasons to Believe) Evolutionary Creation - Deborah B. Haarsma (BioLogos) Intelligent Design - Stephen C. Meyer (The Discovery Institute) The contributors offer their best defense of their position addressing questions such as: What is your position on origins - understood broadly to include the physical universe, life, and human beings in particular? What do you take to be the most persuasive arguments in defense of your position? How do you demarcate and correlate evidence about origins from current science and from divine revelation? What hinges on answering these questions correctly? This book allows each contributor to not only present the case for his or her view, but also to critique and respond to the critiques of the other contributors, allowing you to compare their beliefs in an open forum setting to see where they overlap and where they differ.
