Others cut buds from bearing orchards, but make no selection of the trees which bear the most fruit. It has been pretty thor oughly demonstrated that when young trees are propagated by buds or grafts, they have the same bearing characteristics as the tree from which the budding or grafting wood was cut. If this tree is a regular bearer of heavy cr0ps. Of fine fruit, the young trees in all probability will be the same. If this tree is a shy bearer, or produces inferior fruit, the young trees have very little chance of ever becoming profitable orchard units. You can notice it in your own orchard and neighborhood - one Baldwin or York Imperial tree will bear twice as many apples as another standing alongside it, and better Apples, too. S., we can and do produce a full line of nursery stock that is hardy. Now, everyone knows that you cannot take corn from the South and bring it North and get a crop from it. First, it is not hardy; second, it requires too long a growing season. The same reasoning applies to plants, trees or other nursery stock. Our location in Michigan and our close proximity to the lake, which tempers our Winters, is one of our biggest assets. We can ship early, usually the latter part of March and our climate is such that our nursery stock is practically dormant and has no green leaves by May lst. Customers receiving our straw berry plants should remember this. When your strawberries are green and full of blossoms, Stahelin's plants are still dormant, hardly any green foliage showing. They will stand shipment for thousands of miles and arrive in perfect condition.
