Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now you can read Book I - "The Red Thread" and Book II - "Bloodlines and Promises" together in one volume! The Touchstone Diary series presents fiction, based on historical facts and events, about the life of Jesus, Mary Magdalene and their bloodline. The author dug deep during her eight years of research and extensive world travel to discover some revealing possibilities regarding Jesus and Mary's life - before AND after the crucifixion. Along with her research, the author says many parts of the book were "channeled" as she felt she was "guided" to write much of the Touchstone series, including personal stories within the diary. In "The Touchstone Diary - Book I - The Red Thread," Michael Wilder makes an unusual promise on his deathbed to Miyah Sinclair, a mysterious healer of the ancient bloodline. Michael travels back in time through the portal of a primitive cedar box carved by Joshua (Jesus) as a gift to his bride, and connects with the healing energy and wisdom of Joshua. Miyah shares secrets hidden in the pages of an ancient diary, protected throughout the ages by her generation of healers, the family of Jesus and Mary Magdalene (Joshua and Maryum). Written by women of Miyah's own bloodline, the diary shares emotional, personal stories as these women lived through some of the most important events in ancient history, offering an alternative point of view from the feminine perspective. In "Book II - Bloodlines and Promises," Miyah shares revealing stories with her daughter, Morgan. As Morgan is being prepared to be the next Touchstone carrier, she time travels back to meet ancestral women of her bloodline and learns healing remedies from the source. Adventures continue as the Wilder family journeys to France and Scotland, including the Isle of Iona, searching for a cherished family treasure, a duplicate cedar box, carved by Joshua as a young boy, 2,000 years ago. Along the way they discover more family secrets that profoundly affect the outcome of their own lives, including a very different and alternative, yet widely documented, story of Christianity. Book III of "The Touchstone Diary" series is in progress.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a theoretically rich and empirically grounded account of UK trade union engagement with climate change over the last three decades. It offers a rigorous critique of the mainstream neoliberal and ecological modernisation approaches, extending the concepts of Marxist social and employment relations theory to the climate realm. The book applies insights from employment relations to the political economy of climate change, developing a model for understanding trade union behaviour over climate matters. The strong interdisciplinary approach draws together lessons from both physical and social science, providing an original empirical investigation into the climate politics of the UK trade union movement from high level officials down to workplace climate representatives, from issues of climate jobs to workers’ climate action. This book will be of great interest to students and researchers in environmental politics, climate change and environmental sociology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A landmark collection, spanning ninety years of U.S. history, of the never-before-published diaries of George F. Kennan, America’s most famous diplomat. On a hot July afternoon in 1953, George F. Kennan descended the steps of the State Department building as a newly retired man. His career had been tumultuous: early postings in eastern Europe followed by Berlin in 1940–41 and Moscow in the last year of World War II. In 1946, the forty-two-year-old Kennan authored the “Long Telegram,” a 5,500-word indictment of the Kremlin that became mandatory reading in Washington. A year later, in an article in Foreign Affairs, he outlined “containment,” America’s guiding strategy in the Cold War. Yet what should have been the pinnacle of his career—an ambassadorship in Moscow in 1952—was sabotaged by Kennan himself, deeply frustrated at his failure to ease the Cold War that he had helped launch. Yet, if it wasn’t the pinnacle, neither was it the capstone; over the next fifty years, Kennan would become the most respected foreign policy thinker of the twentieth century, giving influential lectures, advising presidents, and authoring twenty books, winning two Pulitzer prizes and two National Book awards in the process. Through it all, Kennan kept a diary. Spanning a staggering eighty-eight years and totaling over 8,000 pages, his journals brim with keen political and moral insights, philosophical ruminations, poetry, and vivid descriptions. In these pages, we see Kennan rambling through 1920s Europe as a college student, despairing for capitalism in the midst of the Depression, agonizing over the dilemmas of sex and marriage, becoming enchanted and then horrified by Soviet Russia, and developing into America’s foremost Soviet analyst. But it is the second half of this near-century-long record—the blossoming of Kennan the gifted author, wise counselor, and biting critic of the Vietnam and Iraq wars—that showcases this remarkable man at the height of his singular analytic and expressive powers, before giving way, heartbreakingly, to some of his most human moments, as his energy, memory, and finally his ability to write fade away. Masterfully selected and annotated by historian Frank Costigliola, the result is a landmark work of profound intellectual and emotional power. These diaries tell the complete narrative of Kennan’s life in his own intimate and unflinching words and, through him, the arc of world events in the twentieth century.

Whiting savors proverbial expressions and has devoted much of his lifetime to studying and collecting them; no one knows more about British and American proverbs than he. The present volume, based upon writings in British North America from the earliest settlements to approximately 1820, complements his and Archer Taylor's Dictionary of American Proverbs and Proverbial Phrases, 1820-1880. It differs from that work and from other standard collections, however, in that its sources are primarily not "literary" but instead workaday writings - letters, diaries, histories, travel books, political pamphlets, and the like. The authors represent a wide cross-section of the populace, from scholars and statesmen to farmers, shopkeepers, sailors, and hunters. Mr. Whiting has combed all the obvious sources and hundreds of out-of-the-way publications of local journals and historical societies. This body of material, "because it covers territory that has not been extracted and compiled in a scholarly way before, can justly be said to be the most valuable of all those that Whiting has brought together," according to Albert B. Friedman. "What makes the work important is Whiting's authority: a proverb or proverbial phrase is what BJW thinks is a proverb or proverbial phrase. There is no objective operative definition of any value, no divining rod; his tact, 'feel, ' experience, determine what's the real thing and what is spurious."

Book excerpt: "In full and well-written entries, King recounts the routines and surprises of life at sea, where storms and calms could be equally threatening, and the next day might bring a stop at St. Helena to see Napoleon's tomb or an encounter with pirates. King provides details often missing from histories that give a real sense of the period. In his description of Chile and Peru we learn about activities as diverse as cockfighting and courtship.
