Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Borislav Pekic spent six years in jail as a political prisoner, his only reading material the Bible. In 1965, ten years after his pardon, his first novel, The Time of Miracles, was published and became an overnight sensation. A set of parables based on the miracles of the New Testament, the book rewrites the story of Jesus from the perspective of Judas (who is obsessed with the idea prophecy must be fulfilled) and from that of the individuals upon whom miracles were performed--without their consent and, in most cases, to their eventual dissatisfaction. Filled with humor and poignancy, The Time of Miracles is a trenchant commentary on the power of ideology in one's life, upon what it means to hold beliefs, and upon the nature of faith.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heartwarming and Heart-Opening Stories Gathered from Decades of Medical Practice Bernie Siegel first wrote about miracles when he was a practicing surgeon and founded Exceptional Cancer Patients, a groundbreaking synthesis of group, individual, dream, and art therapy that provided patients with a “carefrontation.” Compiled during his more than thirty years of practice, speaking, and teaching, the stories in these pages are riveting, warm, and belief expanding. Their subjects include a girl whose baby brother helped her overcome anorexia, a woman whose cancer helped her heal by teaching her to stand up for herself, and a family that was saved from a burning house by bats. Without diminishing the reality of pain and hardship, the stories show real people turning crisis into blessing by responding to adversity in ways that empower and heal. They demonstrate what we are capable of and show us that we can achieve miracles as we confront life’s difficulties.

Book excerpt: NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY People ∙ O: The Oprah Magazine ∙ Financial Times ∙ Kansas City Star ∙ BookPage ∙ Kirkus Reviews ∙ Publishers Weekly ∙ Booklist NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER “A stunner.”—Justin Cronin “It’s never the disasters you see coming that finally come to pass—it’s the ones you don’t expect at all,” says Julia, in this spellbinding novel of catastrophe and survival by a superb new writer. Luminous, suspenseful, unforgettable, The Age of Miracles tells the haunting and beautiful story of Julia and her family as they struggle to live in a time of extraordinary change. On an ordinary Saturday in a California suburb, Julia awakes to discover that something has happened to the rotation of the earth. The days and nights are growing longer and longer; gravity is affected; the birds, the tides, human behavior, and cosmic rhythms are thrown into disarray. In a world that seems filled with danger and loss, Julia also must face surprising developments in herself, and in her personal world—divisions widening between her parents, strange behavior by her friends, the pain and vulnerability of first love, a growing sense of isolation, and a surprising, rebellious new strength. With crystalline prose and the indelible magic of a born storyteller, Karen Thompson Walker gives us a breathtaking portrait of people finding ways to go on in an ever-evolving world. “Gripping drama . . . flawlessly written; it could be the most assured debut by an American writer since Jennifer Egan’s Emerald City.”—The Denver Post “Pure magnificence.”—Nathan Englander “Provides solace with its wisdom, compassion, and elegance.”—Curtis Sittenfeld “Riveting, heartbreaking, profoundly moving.”—Kirkus Reviews (starred review) Look for special features inside. Book excerpt: The miracles of Christ Jesus are recorded by all the Four Gospel writers which are treated in accordance with arrangement of each writer in their respective books. A careful reading and scrupulous examination in Matthew, Mark Luke and John shows that the three categories of the miracles mentioned above, are mixed up or rather placed or scattered haphazardly. Please note, this does not in any way constitute to contextual criticism. The main task of this book is to re-cast or re-set these three types of miracles which are unsystematically or indiscriminately placed in the Four Gospels and to meticulously put them in an organised or methodically order or format. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, this had been achieved in this book and this is one of the strongest and positive advantages and strength which makes this book unique and special. This makes it possible to read these amazing wonders with ease and without tears.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blessings and Miracles in the perspective of a relationship with God and His divine intervention in our lives, we learn how different factors contribute consequently to the quality of life we live. The actions, choices, and attitudes we have and express every day affect how the blessings and miracles accomplish their purpose in our lives. Blessings and Miracles have been and are still a medium for God to work in our lives. God performs miracles for us to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and through having faith in Him, we experience eternal life by the power of His Name (John 20:30-31). Blessings are, in most cases, conditional and received through a process. A blessing can also be a resource, a resource is a source of supply or support, and it is again an available means or productive factor required to accomplish a given activity. Therefore, blessings are supposed to help us achieve the purpose of our life in this world. It is the Father’s good pleasure to have a relationship with you, to bless you, to heal you, and give you a complete restoration. A miracle is applicable in a crisis or in a problem that we can avoid, or that is unavoidable. While with God’s blessings, we can avoid a position that would put us in a crisis in the first place when we apply godly principles, take the right actions, and have the right choices. God wants us to live a life full of blessings (Barak). Having a relationship with Him, living by His principles, having the right character, and living by His Word for our welfare.
